With the cost of a college education escalating scholarships are more important than ever. Estimated costs for a Wisconsin resident for the 2017-2018 academic year at UW-Madison were $26,003.60/year. (Tuition, room and board, and fees.) Private colleges average $50,900. These price tags show close to a 5% increase in cost over the past ten years.

Of course, that’s not the total price. You still have to buy books and supplies, and do your laundry, and pay for the occasional pizza.

Rising cost of a college education and the failure of federal grants to keep pace with the higher rates of tuition has led to in-creasing student debt. The average debt of a graduating senior from a college in Wisconsin was $29,460. 64% of students had debt. Bot-tom line: College is expensive, and the price is increasing.

A scholarship is a way of helping pay the staggering costs to-day’s college students are experiencing. The Marshfield Area Com-munity Foundation publicizes the scholarships we and others offer to ensure that there is a good field of applicants and as a public service. That’s what the Community Foundation is all about. Connecting people who care with causes that matter. We have published our Scholarship Bulletin for the past twelve years to help scholarship seekers find the money that is being offered by local community groups, individuals, foundations, and businesses. The Marshfield Area Community Foundation manages over 70 scholarships itself.

We believe every high school student, every non-traditional student, should take advantage of the generosity our community offers through these scholarships. These groups see giving scholarships as an investment in the future of our community. The families, individuals, organizations, and businesses that sponsor these scholarships and are providing these opportunities should be very proud of the impact they are making on the lives of Central Wisconsin students. We all can be thankful these people have decided to make a real difference in the education-al opportunities for the people who live here.

We have scholarships listed for graduates of high schools in Auburndale, Abbotsford, Colby, Columbus Cath-olic High School, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marshfield High School, Neillsville, Pittsville, Prentice, Owen-With-ee, Spencer, and Stratford.

This bulletin is prepared with the help of school counselors and student service personnel throughout the area. This bulletin wouldn’t be possible without their contributions. Good luck and best of luck with your future learning!

2018 Scholarship Bulletin

Why does the Marshfield area CoMMunity foundation publish this bulletin?

The mission of the Marshfield Area Community Foundation is “Connecting people who care with causes that matter to enrich the quality of life in the Marshfield area.” Education is a cause that matters to all of us. The Community Foundation is proud to count over 70 scholar-ship funds among more than 200 funds entrusted to the Foundation.

We believe we are enriching the quality of life in the Marshfield area when we help lead students to the financial support that will enable them to achieve an education. We believe the students benefit, their families benefit, and the community benefits. We are glad to do it.

We aren’t making any money at this. Nobody pays to have scholarships listed. Fortunately, we have a lot of very generous businesses that buy ads that pay for the Bulletin. We are very thankful for their support and for the professional work done by the Buyers’ Guide staff.

But we do spend a lot of time on this. Time costs money, too, and frankly, we could use your help. If you are able to support our efforts, it would be hugely appreciated. You can help by making a donation…of any size…to the Community Foundation’s Forever Fund. Our For-

ever Fund pays all of our operational costs, and we need the support of the community we serve to do the work we believe is so important.

Please make out a check to The Marshfield Area Community Foundation and mail it to PO Box 456, Marshfield, WI 54449. Your tax-deductible gift will make it easier for us to continue providing this scholarship service.

ScholarShip Bulletin uSer’S ManualThe 14th Annual Scholarship Bulletin offers

information primarily about scholarships in funds held at Marshfield Area Community Foundation. At the end of the publication we provide additional information about scholarship programs that are held outside of MACF, but choose to make their applications available on our website and use the Bulletin to promote the funds they have available.

If you are still in high school…• Your School Counseling Office and online school website is the best, most complete, most up-to-date, and most accurate source of scholarship information available to you. Go there. Use it. • The last section…Additional Scholarship Opportunities…lists scholarships that may be relevant to several or all of the participating high schools. • There are many, many more scholarships that aren’t listed. Always check out the Financial Aid office of the school you plan to attend.

• Use the Internet. Many area schools do a great job of listing scholarships on-line along with application forms.

If you are already in college or are renewing your education…

As a continuing student or non-traditional student, your task may be either easier or harder. In either case, your starting point is probably the Financial Aid or Student Services office of the institution you will attend. As far as this bulletin goes, most of the non-traditional opportunities are listed in the Foundation sections. Of course, if you are currently in the work force and are going back to school, maybe your employer has a program to help you.

And finally, if you, your family, your club, your organization, your church, your business offer a scholarship and it’s not included here… call the Marshfield Area Community Foundation and let us know so we can add it to the list next year.
