The WBC President, Executive Board Members and members extend their heartiest congratulations to Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman, Brunei’s first woman Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and the first woman to be appointed in a cabinet position, for being conferred the Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Yang Amat Mulia 2nd class by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah on 15 July 2011 to mark His Majesty’s 65th birthday, which carries the title “Datin Paduka’.

5-6 July 2011 SEMINAR BENGKEL KEMAHIRAN ADVOKASI & PEMBENTUKAN STRATEGI ‘Mengingkatkan Penglibatan Wanita Dalam Pembangunan ASEAN’ The seminar was organised by the Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam to mark ASEAN Women’s Day 2011 and held at the Orchid Garden Hotel. It was opened by HE Pehin Dato Hazair, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports. WBC members Dk Hamdiah, Dk Rokiah and Hasiah, attended the seminar.

7 July 2011 MIPR CUSTOMER DAY

The event was held at the Dewan Setia Pahlawan, MIPR.

8 July 2011 BEDB LAW WORKSHOP AND LEGAL CLINICThe workshop at EDC ran from 8-10am and the law clinic on a one-to-one session was from 10-1145am and 2.30-4.30pm aimed at any start-up SMEs wishing to learn more about starting a business and where to go, what procedures to follow. It was conducted by two lawyers from the Law Society. WBC was represented by Hjh Mordiah.

19 July 2011 PAMERAN URUSAN RUMAH TANGGA

Her Majesty the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha was the Royal Guest at the Pameran Urusan Rumah Tangga organised by Persatuan Pertiwi to mark His Majesty 65 th Birthday celebrations. WBC members attended the Opening Ceremony at ICC.

24 July 2011 JUNJUNG ZIARAH DAN BERSAMA RAKYATWBC Executive Board members gathered on 24 July 2011 at Taman Omar Ali Saifuddien to welcome His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam to mark His Majesty’s 65th birthday.

25-26 July 2011 BRUNEI TEXTILE DESIGN DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

The topics covered were on icons of Asia, effective utilisation of e-marketing in textile business, textile design trend of Korea, creative design and its design process technology of textile design, design strategy for success. WBC was represented by Hjh Mordiah, Nellie, Hjh Norhayatti, Dk Hamdiah, Maymon, Rohaya, Zuriah, Rokiah, Mariani and Arbiah .

It was organsied by the ASEAN Korea Centre and coordinated by MOFAT and held at Radisson Hotel.

26-28 July 2011 MAJLIS ILMU 2011

The President and members attended the Opening Ceremony on 26 July 2011 and Forum Khas on 28 July 2011 at the ICC.

organizers to welcome the Chief Guest was H.E the Korean Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam. The Chief Guest also presented cheques to welfare NGOs. WBC members were invited to the event.

12 August 2011 DISCUSSIONS WITH BAGNETWORKS ON E-BUNDA

The discussions between BagNetworks represented by Dyg Nur Azimah and WBC –BD by Hjh Mordiah and Nellie was held at the BagNetworks Office in Jerudong. Issues discussed were on potential areas of cooperation between WBC BD and Bag Networks on programmes to assist business women through training, and CSR.

12 August 2011 MAJLIS TAHLIL AND SUNGKAIWBC hosted a Majlis Tahlil, Recital of Surah Yasin and Sungkai led by Ustazah Hjh Rashidah on Friday 11 Ramadan 1431 at RNCS, Kiarong. It was attended by the President and members. The array of delicious food and drinks were generously catered by members to break the fast.

20 August 2011 DISCUSSIONS WITH BRUNEI TOURISMA discussion was held between Brunei Tourism represented by Dyg Noraini Tersad and Hjh Mordiah and Nellie for WBC BD on issues relating to WBC’s showcase and sales of Brunei traditional handicrafts by its members at the Cultural and Tourism Gallery Kg Ayer to facilitate, to the signing of an MOU to renew WBC’s participation in the Gallery.

On 3 Syawal 1432 EXCO members went to Istana Nurul Iman to wish Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha a very Happy Hari Raya.

HARI RAYA AIDIL FITRI FESTIVITIES

Hari Raya Aidil Fitri fell on 31 Aug 2011 and the WBC President and members celebrated it with family members and loved ones.

5 Sept 2011 PRE MEETING ON APEC WOMEN & THE ECONOMY SUMMIT (WES)

A Pre Meeting was held by the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports for members of the official delegation to WES namely, Women’s Business Council, Council of Women, Community Development Dept.

7 Sept 2011 BASIC IT TRAININGA group of 6 WBC members attended the training organized in cooperation with BAG Networks. The half day training was led by Dyg Siti Intan and Dyg Nur Azimah.

9 Sept 2011 SOFT LAUNCHING OF WBC WEBSITE

WBC has its own website at www.wbcbrunei.wordpress.com. It aims to provide information on WBC and related issues to empower and impact women and is a platform for learning, sharing, and networking while acting as a catalyst for change for Bruneian women in businesses and women in general. It has links with e-Bunda.org and major WBC partners who share WBC’s mission and vision.
