The West Plains School District is pleased to announce the results of the 2012-2013 ACT composite scores for the West Plains High School. West Plains High School students outperformed the national and state averages while raising average perfor-mance from the prior year nearly a full point. The high school received a composite score of 22.4, making it nearly a full point higher than the state average of 21.6 and 1.5 points higher than the national average of 20.9.

West Plains High School students scored well above state averages in each category of the ACT. In English, the state average was 21.4, while WPHS students scored 22.2. In Math, WPHS students were at 21.9 with the state average at 21.0. Reading scores were 22.4 for WPHS and 21.9 for the state. Finally, in science, WPHS students scored 22.6 while the state average was 21.6. The state composite score for the year was 21.6 and the national composite was 20.9. Additionally, ACT calculates the “Percent of ACT-Tested Students Ready for College Level Coursework” and West Plains High School students were at or above state average in all four areas analyzed, English Composition, College Algebra, College Social Science, and College Biology. The ACT reflects the achievement of students over time and also is an indication of the extent to which they are prepared for college-level work. The ACT consists of curriculum based tests of educational development in Eng-lish, mathematics, reading and science designed to measure the skills needed for success in first year college coursework. “This report is evidence of hard work from our stu-dents and their teachers. Our school district takes pride in preparing students for the next phase of their lives. This is what being a Zizzer is all about… Excellence.” said Dr. John Mulford, West Plains School District Superintendent.
