Good Bye from Ms Facas To all the parents and families that I have worked with over the past 12 years at Mount Druitt Campus, I would like to say thank you. I thank you for your continued support, understanding and tireless work to support the school and our students. It will be hard to say good bye to Mount Druitt as I have so many fond and happy memories. I have been lucky enough to experience many roles in the school, from sup-port teacher learning, visual arts teacher, head teacher welfare and deputy principal. Through these roles, I have worked with students and parents closely and I have learned so much from these experiences. Chifley College Mount Druitt Campus is a wonderful school with an ever supportive com-munity. I am proud to have seen so many students achieve great success and I am proud to say that Mount Druitt has made me the teacher that I am today. I would also like to thank Ms Anderson and the whole staff, past and present, for the support I have been given over the last 12 years. Good bye Mount Druitt!
From the principal The Formal has finished, the reports distributed, Presentation Night and Graduation and Sports Ceremonies have taken place and the students are ready for the holidays. I would like to thank all the staff who have worked so hard to mark these events possible. I would also like to thank the parents who have supported both the school and students to succeed and finally, I thank the students for making a work a pleasure. I wish you all a safe and happy holidays,
Cathy Anderson Principal

Highlights for Year 7 in 2012…
This year has been an important year for year 7 and it has been filled with many wonderful experiences. Year 7 have come a long way since the start of the year and have grown in confidence and maturity. Some highlights from this year include; Swim School during week 9. Year 7 spent a whole week at Emerton Pools participating in a fantastic program designed to improve swimming skills and water safety knowledge. During term 3 and 4, year 7 students participated in a Kindy Reading program with Dawson Public School. Each Thursday selected students walked over to Dawson with their year adviser and helped support Kin-dergarten students with literacy skills. The program was very rewarding for the year 7 students involved and the primary school was very appreciative of the extra help. This year we also saw the Polynesian dance group form with the help of Mrs Piukana, a year 7 parent. Mrs Piukana met with the 16 year 7 girls every Wednesday afternoon and helped to teach traditional Polyne-sian dance as well as help prepare dances for formal assemblies. C Factor was also a big hit this term and year 7 definitely stole the show, having the largest number of per-formers from any of the year groups. Our Year 7 student’s confidence and talent left audience members impressed and highly entertained. Stand outs for the year would have to be The Breakers Joshua G, Lochie B, and Michael P who deservedly received a standing ovation at the end of their routine. Year 7 also completed NAPLAN earlier in the year and sat their first high school half and yearly exams. A number of students were also involved in programs run by outside agency Marist Youth Care. These pro-grams included; Didgedance, Poly Club and ACE. The end of the year signalled the completion of 4 Formal Assemblies. Term four formal assembly saw the
following students received a Silver or Gold award:
Silver Awards:
Kersal J Margaret B Jesse B Taylor B Bayleigh D Nyocrha D Gold Awards: Sophia A Erika B Felicity C Benedetta C Emma D Fatuma D
For those students who have not achieved what they had hoped, next year is an opportunity for a fresh start. There will be new classes, new teachers and new beginnings. Have a safe and happy holiday,

Year Eight Update
2012 has certainly flown by and year eight students and teachers have kept busy! Not only is it
hard to believe that our year eight students are almost in year nine, it’s unbelievable how much
they have managed to achieve in 2012!
These achievements were celebrated at our formal assembly for term four, which was held on-
Thursday the 13th of December, with Grant and Darling doing an outstanding job of hosting the
festivities. Jade and Carlie were proud to deliver the acknowl-
edgement of country, while Emmanuel and Grant performed the
national anthem. A number of other students entertained the audi-
ence, including Ince, Machozi, Lipoi, Precious, Lancine, Bon-
gor and Xenilar. A number of students deserve recognition for
the outstanding awards they earned this term, including the 25
students who earned Gold Awards.
Academic achievements were also celebrated at Presentation
Night, held on Wednesday December 12th. Morgan took out first
place in year eight, followed closely by Khin and Isileli who
earned second and third place respectively. Other year eight stu-
dents honoured with awards this year were Mae, Caitlin, Juliana,
Chris, Daniel, Timothy, Poi, Kiarna, Katielee, Precious,
Marieka, Simi, Kara, Mareta, Christian, April, Kaleoni, Jas-
mina and Jade. Year eight student Emmanuel did an outstand-
ing job of performing the song ‘Valerie’.
2012 has been a year to remember with much to celebrate for year eight. However, year nine is
nearly upon us and many exciting new adventures await us. Students will begin studying elective
subjects and I am confident that they will display maturity and leadership as senior students with-
in our school. 34 year eight students have nominated for year captains next year and LEAPS
application forms continue to roll in. 2013 will also see 17 of our students commence participating
in the UWS Fast Forward Program: congratulations to James, Valentine, Kara, Kiarna, Isileli,
Khin, Cody, Marieka, Morgan, Christian, Tiariki, Chris, Brooke, April, Rachael, Xenilar and
Jayden.
I look forward to seeing everyone excited and fresh in 2013!
I wish all year eight students and their families a very happy and safe holiday,

Year 10 Happenings...
This will be my last entry for the school newsletter, not just because it is the end of the school year but also because our Year 10 students have successfully completed all requirements to achieve their ROSA and therefore have graduated from Chifley College Mount Druitt Campus. Year 10 celebrated the end of their schooling at Chifley College Mount Druitt campus in style on the evening of the 6th December when they attended their formal at Novotel Rooty Hill. Students were entertained with some old fashioned games like heads or tails, and pass the parcel and after a scrumptious two course meal, students and staff alike tore up the dance floor! Following a successful formal, students fulfilled their last duty as year 10 by graduating in front of proud teachers, family and friends. A special congratulations goes to Lily X who was crowned Dux of the Chifley College Exam, as well as Dux of Year 10 2012, an outstanding achievement for a dedicated and hard working student. I would like to take this final opportunity to thank all Year 10 students and their families for their support. I am a very proud Year Advisor! Photo’s from the formal are available for purchase from the front office and via Mrs Saunders in the TAS Faculty. The Year 10 2012 Year Book is also available for purchase. These will be available for purchase until the end of term 3, 2013 I wish all students and their families a safe and happy Christmas and holiday and I wish our year 10 students every success next year and beyond.

Some of the most significant awards were: Chifley College Citizenship Award 2012: Blake G Chifley Commitment Award 2012: Denis C Reuben F Scarff Award for Commitment 2012: Kadiatou D June Richards Memorial Prize for Student Leadership: Matthew H School and Community Service Award: Kelly D Chifley College Best All Rounder: Princess Q Sue Leary Memorial Woorawa Award: Kara M & Violet C Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award: Michelle A National Volunteering Awards: Michelle A & Kelly D Gold Medallion for First Place in Year 7: Brenda T Gold Medallion for First Place in Year 8 Morgan S Gold Medallion for First Place in Year 9 Ema P Gold Medallion for Dux of Mount Druitt Campus: Lily X The staff congratulate all students present on the night for their fine performances. Diana Creighton
How is it all worked out?
You may be wondering how Dux and other places are determined. Teachers forward 1st, 2nd and 3rd po-sitions in the year in their subjects to the coordinators. (These positions have been decided by a combina-tion of class work, assignments, practicals and exams.) The coordinators then give a weighting of 10 for 1st, 8 for 2nd and 6 for 3rd places. Subjects with small numbers receive 5,4,& 3 for the positions. The re-sults for each student are added and the highest score is the top student. 2nd place getters are awarded Executive Commendations. Students are acknowledged for the minor placing's and other outstanding commitment and achievement in the formal year assemblies each term.
Photos from the night are available. Please ask at the library.

Swim School news
Running Club news
During week 9, Year 7 students attended Swim School at Emerton Leisure Centre with the PDHPE staff and selected Year 9 Sports Science helpers. Throughout the week students progressed through a range of practical Royal Life Sav-ing Swim and Survive awards, improving their water confidence, survival skills and stroke technique. Students also attended a number of theory based sessions relating to water safety and, at the end of the week, sat the National Wa-ter Safety quiz to test their knowledge. Year 7 should be commended for their posi-tive attitude during Swim School. We look forward to seeing new skills on display at the school swimming carnival early next year.

That’s a wrap from Mathematics for 2012 This year we had great year for Mathematics. We set the bar high with our expectations this year and as such, we have achieved many things including; our best ever turn out for the Australian Mathematics Competition held in August, where 2 of our students were awarded a ‘commendation’ award. We intro-duced Mathletics to some of our classes and it was a great success. In addition, our numeracy program to enhance the mathematic skills of our student is in full swing and will be continuing in 2013. Numeracy Week was a huge success too, where students and teachers from all faculties participated in the week’s events, informing everyone about the history of Mathematics and the importance of it today. Naplan this year went well, with some pleasing results from our students and we are confident that next year the results will keep improving. Well done Year 7 and 9. This year the Chifley College Campuses introduced the Chifley College Exit Exam (CCE), where Year 10 sat for a numeracy and literacy exam to replace the School Certificate. All of our students performed very well. As a school, we outshone the other campuses in numeracy. Six of our students recorded the highest score in numeracy, well done to our wonderful Year 10’s. The Mathematics staff worked extremely hard this year in preparation for both the Naplan and the CCE exams, well done.
Mrs Chetty’s Retirement The Mathematics staff will greatly miss our most senior teacher, Mrs Chetty who is retiring after teaching for 41 years and has been a valued member of our staff at Chifley College Mt Druitt for the past 12 years. Many memories have been made over the years, from past students remembering good times in class-room, to Mrs Chetty’s famous pumpkin soup recipe, that all staff loved. You really did touch many peo-ple’s hearts with your dedication to your work and for that, we thank you. We wish her all the best.
We would like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year and a prosperous 2013. From The Mathematics Staff
