principalmente in due momenti: uno è il Törggelen, l’“andar per locande”, usanza tipica che unisce il sapore delle caldar- roste e del vino nuovo – ma anche delle specialità più tipiche della cucina sudti-rolese – a gite fuori porta. La raccolta dei grappoli è inoltre lo sfondo della Festa dell’Uva, la più radicata fra le tante manifestazioni del territorio che in queste pagine vi proponiamo. Buona lettura!

Like an artist using new colors for his paintings, the autumn season in Merano never ceases to amaze with its splendid display of vibrant colors: with the multi- colored foliage of the trees and woods, with the blue hues of the autumn sky and the shining white of the first snow on the mountains. But autumn is also the season of the grape harvest, which is celebrated in double fashion: by the tradition of Törggelen in rustic inns, where plenty of roasted chestnuts, young wine and hearty South Tyrolean specialties are served. And on the third weekend in October, when the Merano Grape Festival is held. Dating back to 1886, the Grape Festival is also the most longstanding of the many events presented in this brochure. Wie ein Künstler, der für seine Werke neue Farben mischt, begeistert auch der Meraner Herbst stets aufs Neue mit seinem Farbenspiel: mit dem bunten Laub der Bäume und Wälder, mit den Blautönen des Herbsthimmels und dem Weiß der ersten Schneefälle auf den Berggipfeln. Zugleich ist der Herbst die Zeit der Ernte. In Meran wird diese vor allem auf zweierlei Art gefeiert: beim Brauch des Törggelens in urigen Lokalen mit gebratenen Kastanien, neuem Wein und herzhaften Südtiroler Spezialitäten. Prosegue inoltre la mostra temporanea “Piante killer - Le car-nivore vegetali”, uno sguardo nel mondo di queste affascinanti e particolarissime specie botaniche.

AUTUMNAL HUES

The sunny days of autumn set the Gar-dens of Trauttmansdorff Castle (open till November 15) aglow one last time: ever-green plants and lush perennial beds make a fall visit to the 80 garden landscapes worthwhile. The theme day “Autumn at the Gardens” (October 13) offers a varied program for the whole family. Moreover, in autumn the special exhibition “Killer Plants - The green carnivores” is open to the public, thus offering an overview of the beautiful yet terrifying world of these refined trappers and showcasing their great biodiversity.

HERBSTLICHE FARBSPIELE

Sonnige Herbsttage tauchen die bis 15. November geöffneten Gärten von Schloss Trauttmansdorff in ein besonderes Licht: Die immergrünen Pflanzen und üppigen Staudenbeete der 80 Gartenlandschaften machen einen Besuch auch und gerade im Herbst zu einer lohnenden Erfahrung. Der Thementag „Gartenherbst“ (13. Okto-ber) bietet ein vielfältiges Programm für die ganze Familie. Zudem kann auch im

Herbst die Sonderausstellung „Killerpflan-zen - Die grünen Fleischfresser“ besichtigt werden. Die Schau liefert Einblicke in die schaurig-schöne Welt der raffinierten Fallen-steller und verdeutlicht ihre Artenvielfalt.

I protagonisti dell’ippica internazionale si danno appuntamento al meeting del Gran Premio Merano Alto Adige, la corsa a ostacoli più importante d’Italia e una tra le più famose d’Europa che quest’anno celebra l’80ª edizione. In un’atmosfera di classe, eleganza e mondanità vanno in scena varie iniziative di contorno al pro-gramma agonistico sia sabato sia dome-nica (7 corse in ciascuna giornata), tra le quali l’anteprima del Merano WineFestival.

THE MEETING OF THE MERANO SOUTH TYROL GRAND PRIX

Once again, the international horse racing elite takes part in the Merano South Tyrol Grand Prix, which is widely considered one of Europe’s foremost steeplechases and is held for the eightieth time. The thrilling action on the track (seven races each on Saturday and Sunday) is enhanced by a varied program of side events in an elegant and stylish setting, including a tasty preview of this year’s Merano WineFestival.

The Merano Racecourse (often referred to as “Maia Racecourse”) ranks among Europe’s most beautiful horse racing ven-ues and hosts international steeplechases and flat races. The racecourse offers food (warm meals and snacks), a lounge area and champagne corner, live music, and a children’s playground. A varied program of side events rounds out the thrilling action on the track. The setting is both elegant and inviting for families.

Das südtirol festival merano.meran (bis 2018 als „Meraner Musikwochen“ bekannt) zählt zu den bedeutendsten europäischen Klassikfestivals und führt alljährlich Spitzenorchester und Musiker von Weltrang nach Meran. Zum sinfo-nischen Programm im stimmungsvollen Jugendstilambiente des Kursaals gesellen sich neben Barock-, Vokal und Kammer-musikkonzerten auch Jazz und World

Music. Die letzte Festivalwoche (15. bis 20. September) bietet etliche Highlights, darunter das Abschlusskonzert des Baltic Sea Philharmonic am 20. September mit Simone Dinnerstein am Klavier und Kristjan Järvi am Dirigentenpult. Das mit jungen Musikern besetzte Baltic Sea Philharmonic aktualisiert im Kursaal barocke Repertoirestücke und landet mit dem 3. Klavierkonzert von Philip Glass in der Gegenwart.

L’ultima setti-mana (dal 15 al 20 settembre) offre diversi momenti salienti, tra cui l’appuntamento finale con la Baltic Sea Philharmonic diret-ta da Kristjan Järvi e con Simone Dinner-stein al pianoforte. Composta da giovani musicisti, la formazione attualizza brani barocchi e approda al presente con il Piano Concerto No. 3 di Philip Glass.

The südtirol festival merano.meran (until 2018 known as “Merano Music Weeks”) ranks among Europe’s foremost festivals of classical music and annually features renowned orchestras and world-class musicians. The symphonic program in the Art Nouveau setting of the Kursaal is sup-plemented by baroque, vocal and chamber music concerts, by jazz and world music. The festival’s final week (September 15 to 20) offers several highlights, includ-ing the closing concert by the Baltic Sea Philharmonic on September 20 with guest pianist Simone Dinnerstein and conductor Kristjan Järvi. “tre giorni” culmina con il corteo domeni-cale di bande musicali e carri allegorici.

EVOLVING TRADITION

Since 1886, the annual Merano Grape Festival is an occasion to express joy and gratefulness for the harvest in autumn, where South Tyrolean tradition and customs are proudly lived and shown. Diverse events on Saturday display the historic festival’s genuine and young side. Local produce on sale at the Merano Mar-ket, autumn dishes blending culinary in-fluences from North and South, fine wine from the Burggrafenamt and alpine Music (of the more experimental kind, too) are all part of the program. On Sunday, it is time for the event’s high point: the parade through town center with colorful floats and traditional bands wearing South Tyrolean Trachten garments

TRADITION IM WANDEL Seit 1886 ist das Traubenfest alljährlich ein Moment der Freude und des Dankes für die gute Ernte im Herbst. Beim Trau-benfest wird Südtiroler Brauchtum gelebt und gezeigt. Vielseitige Initiativen am Samstag zeigen das authentische und jun-ge Gesicht des historischen Festes. Lokale Produkte am Meraner Markt, herbstliche Gerichte mit Einflüssen aus Nord und Süd, edle Weine aus dem Burggrafenamt und alpenländische Musik – auch der etwas experimentelleren Art stehen auf dem Programm. Am Sonntag bietet der Umzug durch das Stadtzentrum mit seinen Fest-wagen und Musikkapellen in Tracht das Herzstück der Veranstaltung.

Una cinquantina di formazio-ni sfilano per circa un’ora per le strade del centro: bande musicali e fanfare e carri allegorici che richiamano luoghi e tradizioni danno vita a uno spettacolo di forte impatto che si ammira al meglio sulla Passeggiata Lungo Passirio, il cui accesso anche quest’anno è gratuito.Percorso: Porta Venosta, via delle Corse, corso Libertà superiore, piazza della Rena, Passeggiata Lungo Passirio, ponte Teatro, piazza Terme.

This is the hour-long high point of the Merano Grape Festival, where South Tyrolean tradition is lived and displayed in glorious fashion. The parade features tra-ditional bands wearing Trachten garments and gorgeous floats. Two of the parade’s most eye-catching sights are the Apfel- krone float bearing 600 kilos of apples and the Kundschafter with its giant grape weighing 300 kilos. Route: Vinschgauertor, Rennweg, upper Freiheitsstraße, Sandplatz, Kurprome-nade, Theaterbrücke, Thermenplatz.

Franz Fromm war weltläufig, wissbegierig und weinaffin. Bei Barcelona führte er einen Weinhandel. Der Privatsamm-ler brachte seine reichhaltige Kunstkollektion mit nach Obermais, richtete in der Villa sogar ein japanisches Kabinett mit Netsu-kes ein. CASTEL TIROLO costruito nel XII-XIII secolo dalla potente fami-glia dei Conti di Tirolo, l’edificio è situato su un colle morenico, che da un lato precipita a picco. Degni di nota sono due portali romanici e le fi-nestre ad arco, nonché una cappella a due piani con affreschi del 1300. Il castello è raggiungibile solo a piedi (20 minuti circa) sia provenendo dal paese di Tirolo, sia da Castel Torre. Il transito è limitato agli aventi diritto, tra cui i taxi e il ser-vizio di bus-navetta organizzato durante alcune manifestazioni. Lunedì sono chiusi sia il castel-lo, che il ristorante “Schloss Tirol” e il centro rapaci. Attenzione: i cani non sono ammessi.

Si tratta di un programma sinfonico com-posto da una ventina di brani.
