China warns US not to meddle in border row with India BEIJING, (IANS) China on Monday slammed the US after its envoy visiting Arunachal Pradesh, warning it not to meddle in the border dispute between New Delhi and Beijing. After the US ambassador to India Richard Verma went to Tawang in Arunachal which abuts Chinese border, Beijing said such acts will make the dispute more "complicated" between the two coun- tries and "sabotage" peace in the region. "You have also noted that the place visited by the senior diplomatic official is dis- puted region between China and India. We are firmly opposed to the visit to the disputed area between India and China," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said at a regular media briefing. China claims a huge chunk of India's northeast state Arunachal Pradesh, which it calls as South Tibet. Verma visited Tawang to attend a festival. "It will only make the dispute more complicated, disturb peace and tranquillity of border areas and sabotage the peaceful development of the region," Lu said. "We urge the US to stop interference in boundary issue between China and India and make more commitment to regional peace and stability." Lu said the boundary issue between India and China was complex and sensitive and interference by a third party would heighten tension. Lu maintained that China's posi- tion on the eastern sector was "clear and consistent". "Two coun- tries are now trying to resolve territorial disputes through nego- tiations and consultation. Any third party should have sense of responsibility and should respect efforts made by China and India for peace reconciliation and tranquillity rather than oppo- site. "Behaviour of the US runs contrast to efforts by China and India," Lu said. "At the end of the day, only the peoples of the two countries will fall victim. We believe India and China have the wisdom to properly handle the dispute," he added. "His only aim is to save himself from the repercussions of the revelations regarding his corruption in 'Panama Papers' leaks," he said. Imran Khan claimed India was involved in cre- ating chaos in Pakistan to sabotage moves against corruption, Pakistan Today reported. "A new doctrine has originated in India which aims to implode Pakistan because they have failed to defeat us militarily," Imran told journalists as he was about to leave for Quetta to condole the deaths of security officials in Tuesday's militant attack on the city's Police Training Centre. The PTI chief said Pakistan's nuclear-armed arch rival did not want an inside political reform movement to succeed. MUMBAI, (IANS) It is interesting to see how Alia Bhatt's reputation assomeone who gets trolled and is cool enough to take it on her chin isused in the second teaser trailer of Gauri Shinde's "Dear Zindagi". Theone trolling Alia in this teaser about bonding and backchat is noneother than superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who plays Jahangir Khan - 'Jug'to friends. In a moment of conversational 'kabaddi', Shah Rukh tellsAlia he repairs cycles and if he can't repair them, he 're-cycles' them.Cue for Alia to chuckle over the irony of 'recycled' cycles. On a more serious note, she wants to know if damaged human beings

can also be repaired. In both the teasers of "Dear Zindagi", one can see SRK and Alia bond-ing over seemingly lighthear ted bantering. But the indications of adeeper thrust to their relationship cannot be missed.Amit Trivedi's evocative music ensures we know there is more to thisthan meets the eye.Alia may chuckle over her wise and all-knowing co-star recyclingbicycles, but somewhere deep down her character Kyra is searchingfor a reparation for which these trailers are mere preparation.

MUMBAI, (IANS) Actress-producer Dia Mirza says that it is unfair toa target a film like "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" that involves 99 per centIndian crew members. "The day central government announces afinancial isolation of Pakistan where they say all trades and commu-nications will be seized, as a par t of the film industry… I am prettycer tain that we will maintain that 100 per cent," said Dia, who at-tended Good Homes For Ar t event organised by Good Homes Maga-zine, here. "But to target a film, where 99 per cent Indian crew mem-bers are involved and their livelihood depends on the project, it'sunfair," she said when asked about the release troubles faced by the

makers of "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil". It is under threat from the MaharashtraNavnirman Sena for featuring Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. Speakingabout the ar t event, the actress said: "Ar t is a form of expression ofone's imagination and without imagination life would be dull. Ar t com-pels society to respond."I've been brought up in an environment where my dad and my momwere ar tistes. So for me it comes naturally, be it as a form of painting, music, dance or writing. As a filmmaker or film producer, I get tospend some quality time with lots of ar tistes. However, in my owntime I love to do painting," said Dia.

I was very young on the day Indira Gandhi died. I remember thenationwide horror of losing a beloved leader and how it was over-shadowed by the horror of watching Sikhs being dragged out on thestreets and burnt alive for the ghastly assassination.I remember everyone said, "How can the country go on without her?"But it did. History of genocide has a way of repeating itself, unless welearn from the mistakes we made in the past. So, here we are 32years later looking through a film at the chilling carnage of an inno-cent community made vulnerable by the crimes of a few. The film, made with touching earnestness, opens on the morning of October 31depicting an ordinary day in the life of an affable Sikh family. The cut-and-dried treatment of the film, and our knowledge of thedreadful events that transpired on the day, give to the narration a kindof authority and power to move and shake us even when the goings-on onscreen are quite often underwhelming, both in terms of execu-tion and performance. Made on a meagre budget, "31st October" is abig-hear ted attempt to bring us the ghastly incidents on that fatefulday through the eyes of a traumatised Sikh couple, played with reas-suring sincerity by Vir Das (very convincing in his turban) and SohaAli Khan (whose Punjabi accent makes a guest appearance at thestar t and then vanishes as we go along).Their two little sons and their austere yet idyllic low-income exist-ence in a Sikh-dominated locality of Delhi is ripped apar t by commu-nal violence so savage it shakes us to even see it onscreen so manyyears later. Like Mani Ratnam's "Bombay", this film humanises theterrible violence by throwing in two little boys and sundry characters

who are chillingly real either in their demonised avatar or their hu-manism during the days of acute malevolence. Specially gripping isthe Sikh family's car journey from imminent death to relative safetywith the Sikh patriarch locked in the trunk of the car to avoiddetection. For all its made-to-shock manipulation, the scenes of violenceand savagery shock as they are rude reminders of how vulner-able we all are as individuals and as a community. That day itwas the Sikhs. The melodramatic yet moving fi lm makes thispoint with telling affect. It also shows the psychological war farethat human beings unleash on one another when political crimesintervene in ordinary lives. When the assassination happens, the stunned nation is shownglued to the radio while the affable hero is instantly isolated byhis office colleagues. Outside, his wife out shopping is caught inthe sudden eruption of violence. Elsewhere a drunken NRI MonaSikh pleads with the rioters to be killed like his friend was, and adrunken lout offers asylum to a panic stricken Sikh in exchangefor his cash and gold chain, only to hand him over to the mobs.Such characters and incidents belong more to a long-running se-rial than a feature film. Much of the drama is theatrical and theacting is plainly amateurish. But "31st October" is a fi lm thatmust be seen more for what it tells us rather than how it says it,about a shameful chapter from Indian history. At the end, we seethe now-old Sikh couple, trapped in a web of frustration and rage, still waiting for justice.

The last time Australia toured India for Tests, saw them white-washed 0-4 in 2013. Australia then reclaimed the Border-Gavaskartrophy with a 2-0 margin in a four-match series in their backyard in2014-15. Simmons sacking led to Windiesmeltdown, claims PollardTRINIDAD, (IANS) All-rounder Kieron Pollard has describedshambolic behind-the-scenes operations of the West Indiesteam in the recent Twenty20 and One-Day series againstPakistan, saying the chaos resulted from the sudden sack-ing of head coach Phil Simmons on the eve of the tour. Theall-rounder said Simmons' premature depar ture had been a"spirit-dampening moment" for the West Indies and had ledto disarray in the camp and low team morale with playersconfused over exactly who had taken over responsibility for theunit, repor ts CMC.

PAKISTAN NAILED DOWN WEST INDIES, ONCE THE SUPERPOWERS OF CRICKET, IN THEIR FORTRESS WHILE HEADING

TOWARDS TRIPLETS OF WHITE WASH

BEYOND THE BOUNDARY LINE

Younis Khan restituted to the Pakistan team like he'd never been gone.As if the only thing between the Oval and the Sheikh Zayed Stadiumhad been one night catnap for him, and not a crippling disease. Dayone against West Indies was the four th time he had crossed 50 at thisground. It ended up also being the four th instance of him reaching hiscentury. This was the 16th instance in 21 of Younis conver ting a fiftyinto a hundred. Not even Bradman had those numbers. Only once, back in 2001 got out in 90s, since then conver ted each of his 31, 90sinto 100s. This is Most by any player in Test history. Misbah, yetagain, fizzle to add much to his overnight score, relinquishing sixshor t of his hundred - meaning that he now has 35 fifties to go with his10 tons. Unlike Younis, conversion is something Misbah has repeat-edly declined to do. While Younis becomes the role model, Misbahcan become the minacious tale. But of course, you could turn it the other way - of the 31 Pakistanibatsman with at least 2000 runs in Test cricket, only Saeed Anwarhas 50-plus scores in a higher percentage of innings than Misbah.Misbah, who equalled the legendary Imran Khan's record of mostTests as captain with 48, is understandably happy with his own team'sprogress. "Its a matter of happiness to equal Imran's record but I thinkI am more happy because we won the match," said Misbah, who nowhas 23 wins to Imran's 14. Pakistan's template at Abu Dhabi hasbeen very elementary and discreet - bat first, bat big, and let thebowlers do the rest of the job. There was a confidence that Paki-stan once had at the National Stadium in Karachi. It was home toa wicket that suited Pakistani batting - the ingredients of whichoften called that stadium their home, might be their best defense. The sea breeze pushing and stimulating the ball to swing, bothconventionally and especially reverse. And it's enough of a trumpcard, that Pakistan, par ticularly against non-Asian teams, couldspin their way to victory. Among Test venues where at least eightmatches have been played, no ground has been host to a betterrecord for the home team. That is, of course, if you reckon AbuDhabi as a neutral venue. Pakistan have not lost any of their eightTests there until now. And once again story remains the same.Pakistan nailed down West Indies, Once the super powers ofcricket in their for tress while heading towards the triplets of whitewash. The slowness of the wicket forced Pakistan to declare thesecond innings at lunch, on day four to give their bowlers enoughtime to force a win, setting the Windies a record chase of 456.Declaring at lunch was to make sure that they have enough timeto bowl them out as the wicket was bit slow. Misbah didn't want tocome into a situation where his team was going to struggle to dothat. It has happened with them in the past, team aim was to score200 runs in the first session and once that goal was accomplished, they decided to give the opposition 150 overs to bat. No team has everchased down more than the 418-7, while West Indies managed againstAustralia at Antigua 13 years ago and on a weary last day pitch they

India retain same team for last two ODIsNEW DELHI, (PTI) Suresh Raina was today ruled out of the remaining two ODIs against New Zealandafter failing to recover from viral fever as India decided not to make any change to the squad that hastaken a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-ODI series. The Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (C), Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, ManishPandey, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, Amit Mishra, Jasprit Bumrah, Dhawal Kulkarni,Umesh Yadav, Mandeep Singh, Kedar Jadhav.

BY DR ADNAN KHAN needed a huge effor t to stop Pakistan from taking an unassailable 2-0 lead. Yasir one again rewarded Misbah's faith, getting the ball andspun windies by his own way. Leggy deprived West Indian batsmanJermaine Blackwood of a fighting hundred by just five runs. Blackwooddefied Pakistan's spin-cum-pace attack in the first session by adding63 for the fifth wicket with Roston Chase (20) and another 57 withHope for the sixth to counter a weary fifth day pitch. When it seemedBlackwood would complete his second Test hundred, Shah produceda beautiful delivery which kept straight and hit the batsman's pad, dislodging the stumps. Blackwood hit 11 boundaries during his enter-prising 127-ball stay. Shah, who had figures of 5-105 for his eighthfive-wicket haul, bowled Blackwood for 95 before West Indies reached272-7. Shah then trapped Jason Holder leg before for 16 to completehis five-wicket haul, the second in the series. Resuming at 171-4West Indian pair Blackwood and Chase batted without any problemsfor the first nine overs but in the tenth of the day Shah produced asharp turning ball which took the edge off Chase's bat to wicketkeeperSarfraz Ahmed for an easy catch.Shah then took two more wicketsto derail West Indies's fight. Pa-kistan thumped West Indies by133 runs on the fifth and final dayto take an unassailable 2-0 leadin the three match series. The de-feat is West Indies 19th in theirlast 29 Tests since November2013, having won only four anddrawn the remaining six. It is intotal contrast to the West Indiesteam of the 1980s, when underClive Lloyd's captaincy they werean ruthless, insurmountable, stal-war t force at international level, going undefeated in 27 Tests fromJanuary 1982 to December 1984.Jason Holder has now faced eightdefeats in 11 Tests as captain buthe feels there are signs of im-provement. "It is a young and in-exper ienced squad so i t wi l ltake time to get the results wehave been looking for ' ' . WestIndies lost the first Test by 56runs in Dubai, but stil l foughthard in both the matches, bat-ting for 109 and 108 overs re-spectively in the four th inningsof the two Tests. The third andf i na l Tes t w i l l be played inSharjah fromOctober 30.
