    Course Overview

    To provide an understanding o MOD airworthiness organisations,

    policies and procedures. The course explains the application o

    airworthiness to structural integrity, gas turbine engines, avionics,

    sotware and human actors.

    Syllabus

    Aviation saety, airworthiness and

    flight saety

    Aims and importance; individual and

    organisations responsible; relationship

    between airworthiness and aviation

    saety; organisations involved;

    how training and inormation are

    promulgated.

    Air law and regulations

    Importance o recognised standards in

    airworthiness; sources o regulations and

    standards; application o regulations and

    standards; diferences in military and

    civil philosophy.

    Saety management systems

    Objectives o military airworthiness saety

    management systems; implementation

    o saety management systems or

    design, maintenance, modication and

    operation o military platorms and

    systems.

    Saety case and independent

    assessment

    Procedures or conducting an efective

    saety case; steps or saety analysis

    o military platorms and systems; risk

    analysis and risk-based criteria; role

    and unction o independent saety

    assessment.

    Competence in design and

    maintenance approvals

    Rationale or competent design and

    maintenance organisation; composition

    and unctions o a competent design and

    maintenance organisation; mechanism

    or approval o organisations; mechanism

    Roles and responsibilities

    Introducing a military airworthiness

    whos who and guide to rules and

    regulations; changes orthcoming rom

    the Haddon-Cave report (The Nimrod

    Review).

    Continuing airworthiness

    Explanation o continuing airworthiness

    and continued airworthiness; importance

    o occurrence reporting, investigation,

    eedback and rectication action.

    Current airworthiness challenges;

    AssessmentFor DE&S students there is a compulsory

    assessment required as part o this

    module, which takes the orm o an

    end-o-module examination, and a

    written assignment, or which an eight

    week period is allowed or completion.

    The assessment or this module will be

    in the ormat owritten coursework and

    examination. The Course Director or this

    module will provide specic details during

    the taught phase o the module.

    Cancellations

    We regret that a ee must be charged when conrmed bookings are cancelled or

    transerred to uture dates. In the event o a cancellation, you may nominate a substitute

    but i a suitable substitute cannot be ound the ollowing scale o charges will apply:

    More than 56 days beore the course starts, the ee is reunded in ull. 56 days or less - 50% o the course ee. 28 days or less - 75% o the course ee. 14 days or less - 100% o the course ee.

    DE&S Employees: Cancellation ees will be charged to the attendees UIN/budget.

    Transers

    Within the eight week period preceding the start o the course, we are unable to transer a

    booking to a later course ree o charge, since it is seldom possible to arrange the

    attendance o a replacement. Withdrawal and transer to a later course will thereore also

    be subject to the charges detailed above.
