Overview of Tectonic Features and Issues
NE Caribbean contains all elements of platetectonics: subduction, spreading center, transformfaults
There has been disagreement regarding the origin of
the Caribbean Plate. Most now agree that thecentral core of the Caribbean formed in the Pacificand migrated eastward.
Northern Caribbean and Southern Caribbean havedifferent features.
