Totus Tuus “Thank you” & July 1st TransitionsA Big “Thank You” to the Totus Tuus team, Laura and the Faith Formation Department/

Volunteers, and our families who all participated in the Totus Tuus program this week! I am writing this before the program begins, but I do expect that it will be a great success and I know that our folks have put a lot of sweat equity into bringing this program here and making it successful.

With the Archdiocese and all the bishops of Minnesota remov-ing the dispensation for Sunday Mass attendance and the ongo-ing return to more normative liturgies and programming in our parishes, I want to point out a few things as we continue our transition here at St. Wenceslaus, St. John, and St. Scholastica.

Our goal is to remove the collection baskets at the rear of our churches and return to our ushers taking up the collections. We would really love to see more people (men and women) step up for this very important ministry. It is more than just taking up collections. Ushers greet and assist people at the beginning of Mass. They ensure the gift bearers are in place and ready to go (yes, we are going back to having the gifts brought up by the parishioners – sign up is in the rear of church, or if our ush-ers ask, please say “Yes, we would love to bring the gifts up.”). They assist people throughout Mass. And they hand out the bulletins at the end of Mass.

We are also removing the sanitizer tables in our aisles near the front. We will be keeping hand sanitizer in the back of Church, and we will have it on the altar for our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. If you desire to sanitize your hands before receiving Holy Communion, please bring a small tube of sani-tizer with you to church for personal use in your pew.

The remainder of the ropes will be removed, and we will return to “Let us offer each other a sign of peace.” But please respect other individuals who may not be ready to shake hands and I do recommend keeping distance as our church capacity allows.

We will continue with four stations of Holy Communion with the hosts as the number of ministers allow and will not be re-turning to Holy Communion under both species for the foresee-able future. Also, we will be putting the holy water fonts back out for use. Use them according to your comfort level.

I pray we will all have a safe, healthy, and holy summer giv-ing all the praise and glory to God.

Bl, Karl's CornerBl. Karl von Hapsburg (1887-1922)

thrice-crowned king (Austria, Hungary and Bohemia) is coming to St. John the Evangelist this summer. Archbishop Hebda gave his permission for St. John's to house a chapel dedicated to Bl. Karl. This permission, along with chapel plans, was sent to the appropriate parties in Europe, who will be sending us a first class relic of Bl. Karl for our chapel. Fr. Jordan Hainsey, of Canada, is sending down an original 1916 lithograph of Bl. Karl, also for our chapel. May Bl. Karl of Austria prove to be a powerful intercessor before the throne of God for us and our three-church parish.

Join us Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. for our Bl. Karl Mass at St. John's. Latin rosary begins at 5:00 p.m..

13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 27, 2021

Returning to Mass: July 1 Marks End of Dispensa-tion in Minnesota. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a painful time of separation that necessitated the dis-pensation from the Sunday obligation to attend Mass. Now, as the pandemic subsides, and public gathering restrictions and safety protocols are lifted, it is time to gather as the Body of Christ once again. Therefore, the bishops and diocesan administrators of the Minnesota Catholic Conference have decided to reinstate the ob-ligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation beginning the weekend of July 3-4, 2021. Learn more at backtomassmn.org.

You are invited to join many in prayer to Pray for the healing for Our Country. Every Friday from now until October at St. Wenceslaus Church (during Adoration): at 3:00 pm Join us out loud as we pray the Divine Mer-cy Chaplet. At 5:35pm, come and pray the Rosary, stay for Benediction.

FAITH FORMATION ANDYOUTH MINISTRYWe are so excited! Our Archdiocese listened to what you and 35,000 other Catholics stated as important issues for our Archdiocese mov-ing forward. From the listening sessions, three

focus areas were determined to be addressed this fall. We will be offering six sessions on Thursday afternoons from 3-5 pm and evening sessions from 6:30-8:30 pm to address these issues. We will learn, we will discuss, and we will be heard. Be a part of making our Archdiocese a great and vibrant place to be! Invite other Catholics to join in too!

SCHOOL NEWS from SWSDear Parishioners, Dear Parents, Grandparents, Friends of SWS,

Things are hopping around SWS this summer. It is so nice to be in op-eration with “back to normal” stan-dards. It almost feels odd to have a visitor and I reach for my mask and it no longer drapes my neck waiting to be pulled up again so I can speak to the person in front of me. I have

faith that this is how we will open in fall – normal with a few tweaks of the good things we learned along the way in 20-21!

We have our preschool open for the first time running a summer preschool program. It is full and our staff is providing an amazing program for these little kids. Our Club House is also moving full blast with so many fun adventures and fun times for the students who attend. Our maintenance staff is working full speed ahead get-ting everything all shiny again. Mrs. Hartman and Mrs. May are working behind the scenes to get all details for a new year set and to make sure our technology is in the best condition for a great school year. Ms. McNa-mara (retired teacher) has also been sneaking into the STEM lab to replenish supplies. Need-less-to-say, our place is active and busy this summer.

Reading below, you will see that we are getting ready for fall 2021. There are a few items of interest for all, including the new staff members who will join us. For incoming families, there are some links to follow!

Summer is a time to take a break from school, but I also want to keep you in the loop!

Take care and enjoy the sun! Kim Doyle, Principal

13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 27, 2021Page 6

Sunday, Jun 27, 2021THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

God is the champion of lifeWe’re made for immortality. Christianity celebrates that death hasno sting and life has no end. Our tenacious possession of the liveswe’re given is a sign of our refusal to accept death as the last wordon the subject of our lives. We’re impatient with limitations, rejectgloom-and-doom projections, and insist on second opinions whenthe news is grim. We relentlessly cling to hope despite the odds ofour predicament. God is on our side in this stubborn grip we haveon life. God intends for death itself to pass away. Put yourresources at the service of life.

TODAY'S READINGS: Wisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24; 2 Corinthians 8:7, 9,13-15; Mark 5:21-43 (98). “God did not make death, nor does [God]

rejoice in the destruction of the living.”

Monday, Jun 28, 2021MEMORIAL OF IRENAEUS, BISHOP, MARTYR

We’re part of the Lord’s great chain of beingIt’s fun to consider “six degrees of separation”—the theory thateveryone on Earth is connected to any other person by a chain offive acquaintances. Perhaps you even know how you areconnected to someone famous. Imagine being only three degreesseparated from Jesus! Saint Irenaeus is known for that claim. Hestudied under Polycarp, who had been a disciple of the apostleJohn. We may be countless more degrees removed thanIrenaeus, but all Christians are part of the chain that goes back toour Lord because we’re the beneficiaries of what’s been passeddown the links along the way—as well as being links ourselves tothe future. Keep those connections strong.

TODAY'S READINGS: Genesis 18:16-33; Matthew 8:18-22 (377).“Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”

Tuesday, Jun 29, 2021SOLEMNITY OF SAINTS PETER AND PAUL, APOSTLES

Call me by my new nameBefore Jesus, they were Simon and Saul; afterward, Peter andPaul. In the great biblical tradition, both experienced a namechange to signify God’s call to a new and greater destiny. Theybecame the two pillars of the church. Jesus gave Peter the “keys”to unlock the “kingdom of God,” on Earth as it is in heaven—theKingdom Jesus preached about for three years. Paul received a“sword,” the “sword of the Spirit” that’s the word of God—whichPaul used as he spread the gospel to new lands. Is theresomething new you can do for God today?

TODAY'S READINGS: Acts 12:1-11; 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 17-18; Matthew16:13-19 (591). “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Wednesday, Jun 30, 2021

You are part of God’s agendaPrayer has many forms and many expressions: It turns our heartsand minds to God with a desire to praise, to request, to givethanks, or to intercede on behalf of others. Prayer is conversationwith God; sitting in silence with God; sharing with God every hopeand fear we carry. But as Saint Thomas Aquinas reminds us, “Weset forth our petitions before God, not in order to make known toHim our needs and desires, but rather so that we ourselves may

realize that in these things it is necessary to turn to God for help.”Go ahead, place your concerns on God’s desk. There’s alwaysspace.

TODAY'S READINGS: Genesis 21:5, 8-20a; Matthew 8:28-34 (379).“When the poor one called out, the LORD heard.”

Thursday, Jul 01, 2021MEMORIAL OF JUNÍPERO SERRA, PRIEST, RELIGIOUS, MISSIONARY

Man on a missionToday the church honors Saint Junípero Serra, the SpanishFranciscan missionary who tirelessly evangelized native peoplesin California in the late 1700s, founding the first nine of 21 missionsin the region. His sainthood is not without controversy sincemissionaries were enmeshed in the brutal Spanish conquest of theAmericas, but Serra’s record also shows he endured manyhardships late in life for the sake of the gospel, genuinely loved theindigenous people, and defended their rights against the worstSpanish abuses. His memorial is a good time to learn about andpray for greater justice for Native Americans and all IndigenousPeoples.

TODAY'S READINGS: Genesis 22:1b-19; Matthew 9:1-8 (380). “He then

said to the paralytic, ‘Rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home.’”

Friday, Jul 02, 2021

Pray for us sinnersSometimes denial, shame, and fear keep us from recognizing theharmful effects of our sin. Pope Francis encourages us to giveeven our sin over to God. As he put it in a 2013 homily, “In my ownlife, I have so often seen God’s merciful countenance, hispatience; I have also seen so many people find the courage toenter the wounds of Jesus by saying to him: Lord, I am here, accept my poverty, hide my sin in your wounds, wash it away withyour blood. And I have always seen that God did just this—heaccepted them, consoled them, cleansed them, loved them.” Drawclose to Jesus and be comforted.

TODAY'S READINGS: Genesis 23:1-4, 19; 24:1-8, 62-67; Matthew 9:9-13 (381). “Go and learn the meaning of the words, ‘I desire mercy,

not sacrifice.’ I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”

Saturday, Jul 03, 2021FEAST OF THOMAS, APOSTLE

Let doubt deepen your faithWe have come to know today’s saint as “Doubting Thomas,” but interms of his legacy, it was the missionary zeal that grew out of hisdoubt that endures. According to tradition, Thomas traveled far, reaching the Malabar Coast of southwest India, where heestablished a community still known today as “Saint ThomasChristians.” A more diverse mix could not be found: the Nazranis,as they are called, are said to be “Indian in culture, Christian infaith, and Syrian in liturgy,” with a dash of Jewish and Hinduinfluence for good measure. Your doubt can be the catalyst to afaith that endures and leaves a rich legacy. Ask God to help yourunbelief!

TODAY'S READINGS: Ephesians 2:19-22; John 20:24-29 (593). “You

are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens

with the holy ones.”

Invest just five minutes a day, and your faith will deepen and grow—a day at a time
