Nethercote Music Factory connects Eden High students with potential. The Nethercote Music Factory was established as a not-for-profit organisation with the ideal of providing to the public, and more specifically the youth, an opportunity to perform on a stage with the support of an attentive audience, a quality PA system, in a welcoming community. Now concluding its 5th year the NMF is going strong, attracting a diverse range of genres, ages, experience, and musical ability from amateur to professional, in an environment of assistance, encouragement, mentoring, confidence building and networking. It is due to the success of the NMF blackboard nights that it is able to proudly offer funds to the Eden Marine High School’s Music Department to provide a selected student the opportunity to further his/her music studies.EMHS Music teacher Sam Martin and Principal Ian Moorehead graciously accepted the donation on Tuesday afternoon. “Funds donated in such a way allow flexibility and greater potential outcomes for our students” stated Ian.The money is now allocated to a special trust account and from there will provide a scholarship directly benefitting a student or students who may not have the means to attend private music tuition. Selected students are those who show consistent application to music and a love of performing. The Nethercote Music Factory offers a performance opportunity regularly and students past and present of Eden Marine High School are regulars on stage.“There is no better way to hone performance skills than to perform, It is a terrific community organisation that enables not only an excellent listening environment but a safe and supported performance space for all up and coming and experienced musicians,” said Sam.Music teachers Robyn and Sam Martin are in the process of selecting a potential student forf whom the funds will be used to offer private tuition lessons.Sam MartinMusic Teacher

Mock Interview TrialsYear 10 students have been planning for the future and preparing for their life outside of school by working with the school’s career adviser Michelle Bond who has taken the students throught the process of applying for a job.On Wednesday October 28, their hard work was put to the test with mock job interviews conducted by members of the Merimbula and Pambula Rotary Clubs. As part of their preparations for the interviews the students had to choose a career, complete a job application, write a cover letter and create a curriculum vitae. There were 14 Rotarians at the school, who each interviewed a number of students and assessed them on their verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

Professional DevelopmentOn the 7th November, I attended an Introduction to Upholstery course in Sydney. It was an intense 6 hours of developing the skills and knowledge required to be able to both upholster and teach the basics to students. I completed a drop in seat with webbing and springs. The aim of completing the work shop was to be able to introduce upholstery in the new Stage 5 Textiles Technology course and Stage 6 Design and Technology Course. It was challenging, however very enjoyable and rewarding. I am looking forward to passing on the new skills!Kate Mamone, TAS

Cows Create CareersYear 9 Food Technology students participated in the Cows Create Careers program this semester. The aim of the program is to introduce students to the Dairy Industry and identify possible pathways to employment. Students worked in teams conducting research, designing their own dairy recipes and milk cartons then cooking their creations! We had a world class cheese taster talk with the students about his work around the world tasting different cheeses. All student work was submitted to the industry for judging and the program concluded with an action packed fun filled day of activities run by Dairy Australia at the Bega Valley Country Club. Eden Marine High School students took out the Master Chef cooking challenge, the School Award and the best group photo on the day. EMHS had some winners at the recent Eden Whale Festival Arts

Competition. Pictured below are Nathan Comparini, Jenny Halper and Naomi Shoobridge (absent Jordan Paton).
