TEAM NOTESA WINNING SEASON SECURED• With its seven wins, Duke has earned its fifth

winning season in the last six years, the most suc-cessful stretch for the Blue Devils since five winning campaigns in six seasons between 1960-65.

    • Duke has five seasons with seven or more wins in the last six years, marking the first time the Blue Devils have reached seven victories five or more times in six seasons since 1950-55.

LOOKING FOR EIGHT• Duke enters the bowl game looking for its eighth

victory of the season. It would mark the fourth time in 11 campaigns under head coach David Cutcliffe reaching the eight-win plateau.

    • Prior to Cutcliffe’s arrival in 2008, the Blue Devils had not won eight games in a season since posting eight in 1994.

    • A win would give Duke four seasons with eight or more wins in the last six years, the most success-ful stretch for the program since four in six from 1938-43.

BOWLING AGAIN• Duke will play in a bowl game for the sixth time in

the last seven years. • The Blue Devils had never been to consecutive bowls

until accomplishing the feat from 2012-15.• Prior to Cutcliffe’s arrival in 2008, Duke had not

A TOUGH SLATE TAKEN ON IN 2018• Duke faced a stiff test in 2018 with 10 of its 12 foes

becoming bowl eligible by the end of the campaign. The only two Duke contests without a bowl eligible foe were N.C. Central (FCS) and North Carolina.

    • The Blue Devils join Pittsburgh and Florida State as ACC programs who took on 10 bowl-bound programs.

DUKE IN LOUISIANA• In program history, Duke is 1-1 in Louisiana, winning

the 1945 Sugar Bowl and falling at LSU in 1958.

thony Boone (2013 & 2014) and Walt Rappold (1961 & 1961) as Duke QBs with multiple six-win seasons.

ANOTHER 300-100 PERFORMANCE• Jones turned in the third 300-100 game in program

history against North Carolina with 361 yards pass-ing and 186 rushing.

    • Jones owns two of Duke’s three 300-100 perfor-mances with one versus Northwestern in 2017.

    • In ACC history, Jones joins Lamar Jackson (Lou-isville/5) and Tahj Boyd (Clemson/2) as the only quarterbacks with multiple 300-100 games.

    • Duke’s only other 300-100 performance was by Brandon Connette against Pittsburgh in 2013:

JACKSON HITS 400 ALL-PURPOSE YARDS• Sophomore running back Deon Jackson set the

Duke record for all-purpose yards in a game with 403 at Pittsburgh, becoming just the third ACC player to reach 400 all-purpose yards in a contest:

CARRYING THE LOAD• With injuries to sophomore running back Brittain

Brown and redshirt freshman running back Marvin Hubbard III, Duke has relied heavily on Jackson in the last seven games.

    • Jackson’s 806 rushing yards this season are the 14th most in a year in program history.

    • Under Cutcliffe, no Duke running back has gained more than 818 ground yards, totaled by senior Shaun Wilson in the 2017 campaign.

JACKSON’S ALL-PURPOSE YARDS• Jackson enters the bowl game with 1,495 all-

purpose yards, the ninth most in a year in program history.

    • Against ACC foes only, Jackson led the league with 157.4 all-purpose yards per contest, 27.4 yards per game ahead of Boston College’s Michael Walker at 130.0 yards per game.

    • In the last five games, Jackson has averaged 10.22 yards per touch (60 rushes, 17 receptions and 17 kickoff returns for 961 yards).

TFLs ALLOWED PER GAME GOING DOWN• Duke has allowed an average of 5.67 tackles for loss

per game, more than one fewer per contest than the squad surrendered in 2017 (6.69).

    OFFENSIVE NOTES

FOUR STARTERS OUT WITH INJURIES• In week two at Northwestern, junior cornerback

Mark Gilbert suffered a season-ending hip injury. Gilbert was named to six preseason All-America squads and was a unanimous first team All-ACC selection.

    • In week six at Georgia Tech, redshirt senior start-ing defensive tackle Edgar Cerenord was lost to a season-ending injury after rupturing his right Achilles tendon.

    • In week 10 versus North Carolina, junior starting safety Dylan Singleton went down with a fractured left ankle.

    • Redshirt junior starting linebacker Joe Giles-Harris also has missed the last three contests with a knee injury sustained at Miami.

HUMPHREYS A FINALIST• Senior linebacker Ben Humphreys was named a

finalist for a pair of awards this winter. • Humphreys was a finalist for the Ninth Annual Na-

tional College Football Award, presented by the Pop Warner Little Scholars. The award was established in 2010 to recognize a graduating senior who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community and serves as a role model to Pop Warner’s young student athletes.

    • The Newport Beach, Calif., native was also a finalist for the Lott IMPACT Trophy. The qualities embodied by the award are Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

YOUNG SECONDARY FORCED INTO ACTION• With the injuries sustained by Duke’s secondary,

the Blue Devils are starting a pair of sophomores and a pair of redshirt freshmen.

    • The lone upperclassman of the starting group is redshirt junior cornerback Brandon Feamster, who had not started a game prior to this season.

SCORING IN ONE HALF OR THE OTHER• In the regular season, just seven opponents scored

in both halves against the Blue Devils: Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh, North Carolina, Clemson and Wake Forest.

    • Duke pitched first half shutouts against Army West Point and Baylor and second half blankings versus Northwestern, N.C. Central and Miami.

LOOKING FOR INTS• Duke has recorded just three interceptions this

season. A year ago, the Blue Devils had 15 INTs through the first 12 games.

    • Through 12 games in 2017 Duke had also recorded 50 pass breakups while this year’s defense has totaled 31.

STEPPING UP ON THIRD DOWN• In the last five games, opponents are a combined

28-of-69 (.406 percent) on third down attempts. • In the three previous contests, foes were a combined

22-of-50 (.440 percent) on third down.

LIMITED PASSING SUCCESS• Duke has held opponents to 16 passing touchdowns,

the fourth fewest in the ACC and tied for the 37th fewest nationally.

    • Foes have posted a 120.83 quarterback rating against Duke, the fifth-best mark in the league.

    • Opponents are averaging 197.08 yards passing per game, which would give Duke’s defense consecutive years of 201 or fewer passing yards a contest for the first time since 2004-05.

    • Before North Carolina threw for 221 yards, Duke had held four consecutive opponents to fewer than 200 passing yards, the longest streak for the Blue Devils since five consecutive from September 12-October 10, 2015.

    • It was the first time Duke has accomplished the feat against four consecutive Power 5 programs since October 10-November 7, 2009.

TURNOVER UPS AND DOWNS• Duke’s defense forced two turnovers at Miami and

has just two in the last six games. Turnovers have come in bunches this year:

TURNOVERS CREATED = WINS• In Duke’s five losses this season, the defense has

not created a turnover. The lone games the Blue Devils have won without a turnover gained were against N.C. Central and North Carolina.

LITTLE FOURTH DOWN SUCCESS• After allowing Army West Point to convert all four

fourth down attempts during the season opener, the Blue Devils have yielded just seven fourth down conversions during the last 11 games.

DUKE FORCING & RECOVERING FUMBLES• Duke, which recovered just four fumbles last season,

has eight fumble recoveries this year.• The Blue Devils recovered three fumbles at Georgia

Tech, their most in a contest since three against North Carolina on November 20, 2014, and recov-ered two more at Miami.

    • Duke has also forced 15 fumbles by 12 different Blue Devils. Only Victor Dimukeje (2), Singleton (2) and Derrick Tangelo (2) have more than one forced fumble.

INTO THE QB SACK COLUMN• Against Wake Forest, junior end Tre Hornbuckle

booked his first sack of the season while freshman tackle Tahj Rice got the first of his career.

HILL MAKES FIRST CAREER START• With Giles-Harris out, redshirt sophomore Brandon

Hill made his first career starts the last three weeks. • Hill carded a personal-best 13 tackles against Wake

Forest and has two double-digit tackle performances in the last three games.

    • Hill owns 31 tackles in the last four weeks after hav-ing 12 in his career entering the game at Pittsburgh.

YOUNG IV RETURNS HOME, STARTS• In place of Singleton, redshirt freshman safety

Lummie Young IV made his first career starts the last two weeks, at No. 2 Clemson and versus Wake Forest.

    • A native of Anderson, S.C., Young IV finished with seven tackles versus the Tigers and tacked on a career-high 15 versus Wake Forest.

    • He owns 22 tackles in the past two weeks after hav-ing 10 career stops entering the game at Clemson.

GILES-HARRIS IN THE 300 CLUB• Giles-Harris became the 20th Blue Devil to reach

300 career tackles with his 10 stops at Pittsburgh. • Under David Cutcliffe, Giles-Harris (313) is the

seventh Blue Devil to reach 300 career tackles.• Giles-Harris recorded his 14th career double-digit

tackle contest at Miami with a game-high 12 stops.• He is fifth among FBS active leaders, and tops

Power 5 active players, in career tackles per game: Player (School) Career Tackles/Game1. Khalil Hodge (Buffalo) ....................................11.242. LOTS OF TACKLES BY LBS• Giles-Harris and Humphreys have been anchors

for Duke’s defense, accumulating more than 15 percent of the team’s tackles and two thirds of the team’s blocked kicks. A closer look:
