It is an honor to contribute to the development of stainless steels as Chairman of the Eighth Edition of the Stainless Steel World Conference and Expo 2013. Our International Steering Committee, in charge of putting the programme together, is composed of players with experience ranging from research to fabrication, metallurgy to corrosion, sustainable deve-lopment and performance.
The world of special alloys is rapidly changing in terms of quantity and quality. Thirty years ago these alloys were almost considered as exotic. Today, the basic grades have become commodities and manufacturers try to be very inventive to optimize their production. On the other hand, researchers and developers continue to envision new families of alloys and new grades to meet users’ expectations. Combining producers, researchers, fabricators and end-users’ points of view creates synergies that will serve our industry better. We hope that the Stainless Steel World 2013 Conference will again lead to a fruitful exchange of know-ledge and experience and we invite you to participate and submit papers presenting your research, innovations, achievements, experiences, and questions. We are confident that the ensuing discussion exchanges will enable us all to improve the efficiency of our organizati-ons by generating further scientific, technical and economic awareness and understanding.
See you in Maastricht!
François DupoironStainless Steel World 2013 Conference Chairman
Mr. François Dupoiron has a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Toulouse Polytechnic University in France. He began his career with what is now Industeel, where he worked as a metallur-gist and as stainless steels R&D supervisor. He joined Technip (former Coflexip) in 1995 where he worked as an R&D project manager for ten years before joining Total in 2005. Since the merger of Petrochemical and Refining branches of Total in 2012 , he is in charge of Mate-rials and Corrosion for the new branch. In his free time he likes to sail with his family.

The Steering Committee, chaired by Mr. Franços Dupoiron, (Refinery & Chemicals, Total, France) welcomes your participation at the Stainless Steel World 2013 Conference through the submission of a paper/PowerPoint presentation. A maximum of twenty minutes will be allotted to oral presentations at the conference. This will allow authors, through the use of approximately 20–30 PowerPoint slides, to give a relatively in-depth talk. At the end of the presentation, authors should reserve five minutes for a short question and answer session with the audience. Papers/PowerPoints may cover any one of a wide variety of topics related to corrosion resistant alloys. A broad overview of possible topics and application fields is given below but it should not be regarded as being comprehensive of all the subjects that may be handled. If you would like further information or would like to discuss the possibility of giving a presentation on another topic, please contact the Editor-in-Chief of Stainless Steel World and Organizer of the Stainless Steel World 2013 Conference, Mr. John Butterfield ([email protected], tel.: +31 575 585 294). In particular we would like to receive papers on end-user experiences, case histories, problem solving solutions, and applications oriented studies. Sales pitches promoting particular products or services are not accepted.
Renowned International Steering CommitteeThe Stainless Steel World 2013 Conference will be put together by our very experienced and knowledgeable International Steering Committee. They will be responsible for evaluating the submitted abstracts and deciding whether they are suitable for presentation at the event.
