Greetings from the Y&FM!

Can you believe it is March already? That means

spring will be arriving very soon! The first day

of spring is March 19th and I don't know about

you, but I am grateful that this winter season has

overall been a relatively mild one. And speaking

of gratitude, in the Y&FM this month, we are

focusing our lessons on appreciation and grati-

tude and our willingness to receive our endless

supply of good. For when we recognize God's

abundance, we show our gratitude.

One of the stories we will be using is that of the

Prodigal Son. In this story, we see how the sons

demonstrated gratitude and the things they had

trouble showing gratitude for. With these les-

sons, the children can explore ways to be open to

their good, and learn how others can help us ex-

press gratitude. Sometimes though, it is hard to

feel grateful or glad when life is not going the

way we want it to, or we don't notice all the

things we are thankful for. I'm sure none of us

have ever experienced this! So let us take ac-

tion, find new ways to look at our situation dif-

ferently and find our good! Let’s change our

world by offering our appreciation and gratitude.

Welcome to Ongoing Metaphysics (“OM”) for March 2020. We meet Tuesdays 6:45pm to 8:15pm, except before holiday weeks. In February we discussed past life regression, and topics involving after death or near death experiences. On February 25th, we will discuss near-death experiences. We have five Tuesdays in March. Our March theme is the application of Spiritual energy to our bodies through various modalities – the union of Spirit or Spiritual Energy in and through our bodies. March 3 we will participate in the “Oneness Blessing” facilitated by Paul Christian, a member of the Tallmadge Unity Center. The Oneness Blessing is also known in Hindi and Sanskrit

as दीक्षा (pronounced deek-shaa), literally means

initiation, devotion, dedication, a serious preparation, a complete resignation to, and spiritual observances, among others. I personally experienced Deekshaa in Pittsburgh at a Mayan seminar prior to the 12/21/2012 great cycle date of the Mayan calendar. At the time, I didn’t know what it was, but someone put their hand on my head and I received this spiritual energy at that time. I must say that I have grown in spiritual ways since then and it may have been a positive factor in my current spirituality. Deekshaa is described as “a direct transfer of intelligent sacred energy,” “initiates a neurobiological change in the brain,” “a shift in the perception and experience of life,” “facilitates deep emotional physical healing,” and “enables a greater sensitivity and connectedness in relationships.” March 10 Kimberly Ford will facilitate a class on yoga. There will be a brief lecture on the history and spiritual purpose of yoga, and a practical, relatively easy but optional participation in “chair yoga.” This introduces common traditional yoga poses but does not require the balance or strength of non-chair based yoga. In

Sanskrit, “yoga” or योग (pronounced yoh-guh) means

“yoke,” which can therefore be further defined as a means of uniting the individual spirit with the universal spirit of God, as in a yoke of oxen joined together. On March 17, we will invite Reiki practitioners to bring the Reiki tables to set up in our Centre for a “Reiki Give and Receive Night,” where givers and receivers of Reiki (whether Level I, II, or III as Masters) can gather together to share Reiki for those persons who may want to experience and give or receive the Reiki Fire, or “Ki” Energy (The “Ki” in Reiki stands for the energy, qi as in qi gong, or

universal chi, 氣 Chinese symbol = rice in a pressure cooker). Bring your tables, or let me know and I will pick

them up if you can’t attend, but will donate a table for the night. I’d like to have enough tables so many can participate in receiving Reiki. It will be facilitated by one or more of the Reiki Masters who are in attendance that night. We’ll have a short lecture on the background of Reiki and spend the majority of the night doing actual Reiki practice with each other. March 24 Jim Thornton will facilitate an OM class on dreams. This will introduce you to dream interpretation and the meaning of dreams in our Spiritual life. Dreams are one of the few ways we have to see into our own unconscious. Mystic psychic Edgar Cayce said that “nothing occurs in our lives that is not first foreshadowed in our dreams.” Imagine that…you could know the past, present and future through your own Self dreaming it! Finally, March 31 Todd Bonar (“The Energy Guy”) will facilitate a session involving receiving frequencies through the body using a “Rife”-based energy transmission system. Royal Rife studied how different frequencies transmitted through the body could destroy bad microbes that were that cause of many different maladies. An example is the destruction of certain small organisms that may cause Lyme disease. While not claiming to be a cure for diseases due to regulations, many people have experienced this frequency transmission and reported their positive personal results and experiences. Todd has presented this in many different venues, and has taken the standard Rife frequency protocol beyond what other machines are designed to do. Todd does this through his own special intuitive knowledge applied to the frequencies. I am delighted to be back as Associate Minister for our beloved Unity Spiritual Centre. Although I’ve been active in Church, I’ve missed being with you in a ministerial capacity. My first love in ministry is the prayer work we do. This time, that’s what I’d like to address this article.

In Unity, we have a unique way of praying, and we call it affirmative. But what does that really mean? First of all, it affirms the Truth of Universal Laws in our lives and affairs. Jesus, our way-shower, used this prayer method in the Lord’s Prayer. Does that surprise you? Let’s take a look at the content.

1.Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. (An affirmation of Truth. Consider that heaven is the divinity within us.) 2.Give us this day our daily bread. (Note: Jesus does not beg for bread. He is affirming it will be given as He claims it.) 3.And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. (Another affirmation. There is no mention of begging or pleading for His forgiveness.) 4.And leave us not in temptation, (God never leads us into temptation), but deliver us from evil (The consequences of our misuse of Universal Law). I believe that most of the time we don’t plan to break the Universal Law but instead we are often unconscious that we’re breaking or misusing them. Either way, we are held accountable for responsibly using Universal Laws. Similar to secular law’s admonishment that ignorance of the law is no excuse,” Universal Laws don’t change because we don’t understand. 5.For Thine is the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory forever and ever. Amen. (An affirmation of Truth that we have the Kingdom within us giving us access to the faculty of Power within us, too.) 6.In Luke 11:1, Jesus’ followers said, “Lord, teach us to pray…” Jesus responded with a model for them (and us) to follow. That model shows not only the basics of praying but also the necessity of praying.

Secondly, as helpful as our smartphones are, we still have to deal with glitches when Wi-Fi fails, cell phone signals drop out, or the phone stops working for no apparent reason. But while man-made gadgets can and do fail, remember the affirmative method of prayer never fails. No matter where we are or what we’re doing, we always have immediate and unfailing communication with God.

Prayer is communication with God, and it is key to the depth and health of our relationship with God. Prayer gives us direct access to God’s listening ear, as well as all the qualities of love, strength, wisdom, and comfort. Silent Prayer (meditation) also is a time for hearing from God. As we pray, the Holy Spirit guides us in decisions, comforts our sorrows, and lavishes love upon us. Remember that God already loves and accepts us unconditionally, so we never have to fear reaching out to Him in prayer.

There is so much more I’d like to write about prayer. To begin a dynamic personal prayer life KNOW that God wants to hear from and bless us, so much so that He even helps us as we pray: “We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us….” (Romans 8:26). Prayer is the magnificent gift from our loving Father and an instant way into His Presence, love, and help. So don’t fear it or put it off. Instead, joyfully embrace it.

During the search process for a new Spiritual Leader it was discovered that the

board is required to sign a Code of Ethics every year. As I was reviewing this I

thought that it should be something all of us can use as rules to live by to enhance

our lives. I have included two parts of it that I think we all can apply personally and not necessarily just as leaders of the

Centre. I believe that these are reminders to all of us and can help all of us adjust our walk to one of a higher consciousness.

I. Dedication to Truth Principles

A. I dedicate myself to the principles of Truth as taught and exemplified by The Christ:

1. God is Absolute good, everywhere present. 2. Every human being is an expression of the Divine; the Christ spirit, by whatever name, indwells all

people. Their very essence is of God, and therefore they are also inherently good.

3. Human beings create their experience by the activity of their thinking. Everything in the manifest

realm has its beginning in thought.

4. Prayer is creative thinking that heightens the connection with God-Mind and therefore brings forth

wisdom, healing, prosperity, and everything good.

5. Knowing and understanding the laws of life, also called Truth, are not enough. A person must also

live the truth that he/she knows.

B. I look to the indwelling Christ for inspiration, to guide, govern, and prosper me.

C. I will, to the best of my understanding and ability, demonstrate Truth in my life.

D. I believe in the power of prayer.

II. The Relationship to Self – Self-Care

A. I will articulate an awareness of the need for self-care by designing, implementing, and maintaining a plan for my life of regular renewal.

B. I will care for my body with good nutrition and exercise and express an awareness for the need of physical self-

care.

C. I can say “yes” and am able to say “no” in order to prevent burnout by identifying strategies and taking action to

avoid this condition.

D. Leading by my strengths, I model and teach self-care and living a balanced life.

E. I am comfortable asking for help when I recognize the need, and model and teach the value in doing so.

F. I balance work, relationships, and recreation by developing and implementing a plan for balanced living;

maintaining adjustments as required in any balancing practice.

G. I exhibit a mindset of ongoing renewal and conscious evolution by developing, implementing, and maintaining

an ongoing program of spiritual growth.

I believe in the power of Prayer, which in Unity is a Positive Affirmation of Truth, so therefore;

I affirm and hold that all of us are living these principles for our highest good: expressing in body, mind and

soul. I give thanks that it is so and SO IT IS!

Hello to the wonderful you that you are!

Wow!!! Have you noticed how much brighter it is? Thanks to Larry Heck, the Building & Grounds Team and the Men's Breakfast… Reed, Jim, Roger and others. They went to town and replaced all the classroom, kitchen, bathroom and hallway lights with new LED lights. This will not only provide a better quality of light but also makes us greener plus there will be a cost savings.

Michael Swiatkwich is working on acquiring quotes for the septic. You may have noticed we now have pipes sitting at corners. Never thought I would get so excited about sewage!

Roger Juntunen is busy continually adding new classes to OM and chairing a group for possible Sanctuary updates. If you have an opinion, don't be shy.

Janet Thornton has kept the Ministerial Search Committee on track and the Ministerial Search Package has been sent UWM. Thank you search committee members for all you are doing. An email survey has also gone out to everyone, so make sure you take time to respond. Paper copies are also available in the office. The deadline to complete one is March 7th. This information is vital for us so we can attract the Minister that you desire.

Rev. Rose has come on staff again as our new Associate Minister and will be heading up New Membership Training as well as Chaplin Service.

Kimberly Ford joined us via Zoom (video). Her Uncle now requires ongoing daily care and she may not be able to be at all the board meetings. We agreed to allow her to continue to serve on the board via Zoom as long as required. Please keep them in your prayers.

Nicole Niewoehner is working on branding updates for the website. She also found a great sign which will appear outside on the wooden board by the road. We also will be adding some small directional road signs. In the near future you will notice our monthly newsletter looks different—don't worry you computer is okay! We will be using MailChimp to send out the Connect. I think that you will like it. It allows people to subscribe and share about our beautiful community here much easier.

Your Board voted to allow up to $1500 to build the new “command center” in the back of the Sanctuary. This platform will hold two people, the sound board, monitors and video cameras for the live stream. Doing this it will help our live streaming look more professional and make more room in the office should our new Minister desire an office of his / her own.

Lyn Hemphill will be getting a new computer as we have agreed to have a 6 yr. rotation on all computers. This keeps us updated and current with the times.

We voted to raise our credit card limit from $500 to $1500. Larger purchases required a member or staff to pay out of pocket then get re-reimbursed later. This will make our purchasing and accounting easier. Don't worry we won’t spend it all in one place! In fact our church is doing very well and that is because we have a great community that participates on all levels of service. I am so grateful for your love and support of Unity Spiritual Centre. It really shows and you should be proud to share it with others and tell them about all the great activities and spiritual growth that goes on here.
