Hola! As I take a huge breath, July is already here along with summer in full swing. June was a great month of activity at the Lodge. We had other great tourneys on the course in June such as the Flag Day

and Father’s Day. Also coming in July golf outings to consider are the Single Scramble, Interclub and the Men’s In-vitational. The Women’s Invitational is coming in the first part of August. Please remember to come out and enjoy these events as there will be a lot going on! June also brought Flag Day! It was a great Flag Day ceremony with great company. The St. Clair County Honor Guard presented the flags along with a Twenty-One-Gun Salute and Taps. Our many thanks to these Veterans tak-ing care of Veterans. This organization of Veterans volunteered to be present at over 360 funerals last year to offer full military honors. It is my honor and privilege to let you know the veterans committee has again held this organiza-tions year end banquet on behalf of the Elks lodge. Also, a huge thank you to all that helped put Flag day together. Our Lodge has done a terrific job of increasing our membership!! Please say “Hi!” to new faces and introduce your-selves. Congrats to our Lodge for all our awards at the State Convention. Again, I would also encourage our members, old and new, to attend meetings to in-crease understanding of our Lodge ac-tivities. If any members would like to volunteer or are interested in Lodge activities, our officers will direct you to chairpersons and contacts! Queen of Hearts has started and will be up and running for forty weeks. Get the word out! Please contact the Lodge if you need to sign out tickets to sell!!! A very special thank you to our great staff for taking care of us. We have a veteran staff in the social quarters that is so good, they deserve Chef Shell’s do-nuts! Yes, they are that good! Bill Ken-nedy and his crew in the kitchen are keeping us well fed! Mark Pringle and the grounds crew deserve a huge pat on the back for continued work on the course and keeping it looking great. Remember, the best way to sup-port your Lodge is to come out and en-joy it. Looking forward to seeing all our members in the next month.Fraternally Yours, Paul Torres, Exalted Ruler

SCHEDULE RESULTS

Hole-in-ones seem to be easy. Three in the last month. Dennis Genaw Jr, Lisa Larzlere-Hendricks and Mary Seely all recorded aces. Congrats on their perfect shots. The course is looking great compared to earlier this spring. It took a bit lon-ger this year for the grass to respond, but what do you expect when winter seemed to hold on until June. As we begin our summer schedule, don’t forget the Men’s Invite is right around the corner, the ever-popular Inter-Club Tournament is the follow-ing week. The Ladies’ Invitational is the first weekend in August. Plenty of events to keep you busy, see you on the first tee. With all the hole-in-ones, if I don’t get one, not my fault. Mark didn’t cut the holes in the right spot.

Volunteer of the Month

"Let us never forget and may it always be first on our mind...our Children, Veterans and First Responders, especially those who are in dis-tress or in harm's way. Always remember that love is stronger than hate, hope is stronger than hurt and fear can be overcome by light, love and persistence."

Club 343 update We want to Thank All Club 343 Ticket Holders for your continued support! With-out you there would be no Club 343. And on that note, it’s time to think 2018-19 Club 343 tickets. We have sold all 300 tick-ets for the last 6 years. Now we would like to get a jump start on the 2018/19 year. If you don’t have your ticket yet, please give Sue or Greg Hudy a call at 810-982-1370 or call the Lodge at 810-982-8531 or email to [email protected]. They are still only $40. The first draw is Saturday, October 13th at 5:00 pm. A $40 ticket gets you into 5 draws for a share of $375 the 2nd Saturday of each month from October - April plus a ban-quet in May with a wonderful dinner by Chef Bill, 2 drink tickets and a chance to be 1 of 10 winners to share a piece of $1700! All that for just $40!! Come join the FUN!

Convention bound! Our Exalted Ruler Paul Torres will be at-tending the Elks National Convention July 1st through July 4th. This year it will be held in San Antonio, Texas. The convention will give Paul an exten-sive view of the workings of Elks Lodges throughout the USA and a chance for him to exchange ideas and gather up a ton of in-formation to bring back to our membership. With over 50,000 members and 2,000 Lodg-es nationwide, there will be a lot of chances to hear about some proven ideas and things Port Huron Lodge can do!

Growing our Lodge Port Huron Elks Lodge 343 is the sec-ond largest Lodge in the State of Michi-gan with over 890 members. Traverse City is first with 1421 members. Now is the time for all of us to practice our 30 second “elevator speech” to our family, friends, neighbors, business as-sociates and all men and women we may encounter throughout the day and tell them why they should become an Elks member. We should especially invite them to join OUR order, Port Huron Elks Lodge 343. Our Officers have set a membership goal of 950 members, but I think we can do much better than that. It wasn’t that many years ago that we were number one in Michigan with almost 1800 members, so a goal of no less than a 1000 shouldn’t be too difficult to attain. How about it fel-low members, can we do it?

Karl Gibbs is a name that not ev-eryone knows but has a face that ev-eryone recognizes at our Lodge. Karl is a retired Veteran serving our country for over 20 years. We thank you for your service Karl. He has also been an Officer of

our Lodge plus was named Elk of the Year a couple years ago. In the short time Karl has been a mem-ber, he has already done many things for our Lodge. He helps the grounds crew every Wednesday with many proj-ects our Superintendent Mark Pringle might have. He helps with many events the Lodge has and always lends a hand carrying heavy items for the bar and wait staff if needed. There are many more things that Karl does for our Lodge that are never seen. He also helps keep a harmonious environment throughout our Lodge. He will speak out when he sees something that is not right. He probably will not like this recog-nition as being chosen Volunteer of the Month because he tries to keep a low profile and does not seek recognition. So when you see Karl give him a big THANK YOU and let him know that we appreciate him being an Elk at Port Huron Elks Lodge 343, very much!
