Praying the

Rosary for Peace Tuesday Evenings at 6.30 pm

During Lent

We pray the Rosary, accompanied by scripture

readings, music [psalms & songs] and Decade prayers.

We pray for: World peace, Peace within our country and communities, Peace of mind and

heart, and for good health of all.

Everyone is welcome to attend and join in. Rosaries and booklets will be available for use

and to take home for our homebound friends and family.

The Rosary for Peace is done in honor of Father Healey. The Rosary for Peace prayer

service was started by Reverend William Healey in 2002 at Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace

Church on Tuesdays during Lent and has continued each year since.

This years will begin on Tuesday, February 20, 2018

Monday, February 19 & 26, 2018

Monday, March 5, 12,19, & 26, 2018

The season of Lent is a special time of grace, inviting and enabling all of us to deepen our

relationship with Jesus and to embrace a life of meaning and purpose. To assist us, in

addition to our normal Saturday afternoon confession time,

Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace and most Catholic parishes in the

Diocese of Scranton will be open on Lenten Mondays from 5:30-7:00pm.

Please participate in this opportunity to make a good Lenten confession, and please also

reach out to the Catholics you know who have been away from the regular practice of the faith and invite them to participate in this

chance to begin again.

I am asking all our parishioners to take the following precautions to help mitigate the

effects of the influenza (flu).

Parishioners are asked not to shake hands with the Priest, Deacons, Altar Servers and

Eucharistic Ministers before/after Mass.

Parishioners are asked to share the Sign of Peace with fellow parishioners without touching hands or kissing. This can be done with meaningful eye contact, smiles, and a bow of the head in reverence to one another or the Holy Wave.

Thank you, Father Beck

Lenten Youth Mass Sunday, March 11th

DONT GIVE UP CHOCOLATE FOR LENT! HAVE THE BEST LENT EVER

WITH MATTHEW KELLY

DON’T GIVE UP CHOCOLATE FOR LENT!

INSTEAD, TAKE A 40 DAY JOURNEY TO BECOME THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF.

Lent is the perfect time to form new life-giving habits and abandon old self-destructive habits. But most of us just give up chocolate. Then, when Easter arrives, we realize we really haven’t grown spiritually since the beginning of Lent. Giving things up can help us to have a meaningful Lent, but that’s not what Lent is really all about. Lent is about doing something—something bold to become a better husband or wife, father or mother, son or daughter, friend, neighbor, etc. What if this year you did more than just give up something during Lent? Do something life-changing, from the privacy and comfort of your own home. Sign up for ‘Best Lent Ever’, a FREE, video-based email program featuring internationally acclaimed speaker and New York Times bestselling author Matthew Kelly. From Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, Matthew will help you identify what stands between you and happiness . . . and what to do about it. Are you ready for your best Lent ever.

DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION A Brief History

On February 22, 1931, a young Polish nun, Sr. Faustina Kowalska, saw a vision of Jesus with rays of mercy streaming from the area of His Heart. He told her to have an image painted to represent this vision and to sign it, “Jesus, I Trust in You!”

Calling her the Apostle and Secretary of His mercy, He ordered her to begin writing a diary so others would learn to trust in Him.

In a series of revelations, He taught her that His mercy is unlimited and available even to the greatest sinners, and He revealed special ways for people to respond to His mercy.

By the time of Sr. Faustina’s death in 1938, devotion to the Divine Mercy had already begun to spread throughout Eastern Europe.

In July, 1940, Fr. Joseph Jarzebowski, a Polish Marian priest fleeing from war-torn Poland, prayed to the merciful Savior to help him escape, vowing to spend his life spreading the Divine Mercy message. He ar-rived safely on American soil in May, 1941, and the Marians in Detroit and Washington, D.C. were soon dis-tributing Mercy of God leaflets, prayer cards, and other materials.

The process for beatification of Sr. Faustina was begun in 1966. On March 7, 1992, Sr. Faustina was de-clared Venerable, on December 21, 1992, a healing through her intersession was declared a miracle, and on the Sunday after Easter, April 18, 1993 (Mercy Sunday), she was solemnly beatified in Rome by Pope John Paul II. St. Faustina became a saint April 2002. © 1994 Marian Helpers

The Novena of Divine Mercy will begin on Good Friday, March 30. Brochures describing the Divine

Mercy Devotion are available at the doors of our churches.
