The 120th Anniversary of the Southern California Society of the Sons of the American
Revolution held at the Green Dragon Tavern and Museum on October 25, 2014, was a
memorable occasion for the one hundred plus attendees. Greetings were presented by NASSAR
Chancellor, John Dodd, CASSAR President, Jim Faulkinbury, and
CASSAR Color Guard Commander and VP South, Jim Fosdyck.
The featured speaker was 2014 Minuteman and former CASSAR
President, Karl Jacobs. He presented an informative power point on
German vs. German at the deciding Yorktown Battle in the
Revolutionary War.
Rt. Rev. Louis Carlson, 2013-14 SAR National Chaplain and CA
Chaplain graced our lunch and the Rev. Dr. Stanley De Long,
former NASSAR Chaplain, Minuteman, and former CASSAR
President gave the invocation and benediction.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Compatriot Richard Baily,
Pledge to SAR was led by former SD Chapter President Dave De
Long, and Recessional by former SD Chapter President, Robert
Fagaly.
Other honored guests were DAR National Corresponding Secretary
and former DAR California Regent, Karon Jarrard, and Jeanette
Shiel, DAR District 14 Director. Karon deserves a special thank-
you for preparation of the sixteen-page booklet featuring the one
hundred twenty years of SAR in Southern California. Each guest
was presented a keepsake booklet. Karon was honored in the
presentation of the Lydia Darragh Medal for her support to SAR.
CASSAR Color Guard Commander Jim Fosdyck did an
outstanding job arranging attendance of Color Guardsmen from
Southern California. The Wounded Warrior Medallion was
presented to US Marine Corps SSgt. Louis Huerta from the Camp
Pendleton Wounded Warrior Battalion West. SSgt Huerta is a
veteran of seven deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. The late USMC Major General Joseph
Pendleton, which the base was named after, was a former President of the SAR San Diego
Chapter.
Thank you to Compatriot Ernie McCullough for coordination of the event venue, Compatriot
Dan McLaughlin, SD Treasurer, for handling the reservation receipts, and SD 1st VP George
Biles for arranging airport transportation for CASSAR President Jim Faulkinbury who flew in
from Sacramento for the event.
I also want to thank Mary-Anne McCullough and Gail Raser of the San Diego Chapter Ladies
Auxiliary for their tireless efforts in planning and arranging the table decorations. It was a
memorable event, enjoyed by all.
San Diego Chapter President,
Ray Raser
