1. Price

For many people spending $2.50 or more on a CFL still seems like a lot (even though the savings could be over $7.00 per year*).

The price of CFLs on the online store begins at 95 cents, and the price of light fixtures begins at $1.00. Free shipping is offered on orders over $25.00, and a free CFL is included with every order!

*Assuming 3 hours use per day, $0.16 per/kWh, and the replacing of a 60w incandescent with a 15w CFL

2. Selection

While the availability of general use CFLs has improved through retailers, the selection and availability of specialty CFLs remains limited.

Over 12 general use CFLs are offered online, as well as 40 specialty CFLs, 45 dedicated CFL fixtures, and 2 ENERGY STAR® qualified LED down lights. New products are added weekly.

3. Information

Information about energy efficient lighting is available, but scattered.

We consolidate information about CFL recycling, product lifetimes, efficacies, and information provided by ENERGY STAR®. Consumers receive information about other NJCEP programs with orders. E-mail, live chat, and phone support are available.

4. Convenience

Comparing brands and shopping for the latest products can require a lot of effort, time, and diligence on the part of consumers.

The site offers 144 different products from a dozen different manufacturers, 24/7 shopping, with delivery to the door typically within 1-2 days.

In the U.S*…

- 70% of households already own at least 1 CFL, but

- only 36% of households have more than 5 CFLs, and

- only 11% of light sockets have a CFL installed (with the average house having 34 to 40 sockets)

The greatest potential for increased savings is by increasing the number of energy efficient light bulbs used per household, and we are helping to make this easy, convenient, and affordable.
