I T’S less than a week away and thefinal preparations are under wayat Newton Abbot Racecourse for
the return of its most popular racingfixture of the season, The St AustellBrewery Ladies’ D ay.
The dedicated team at NewtonAbbot are working around the clockto get everything ready for thisye a r ’s Ladies’ Day on Tuesday, June24, including the setting up anddecorating of the special VIPm a r q u e e.
Guests can look forward to a greatday of pampering, delicious food andwine, and a fashion show from EXiVBoutique based in Gandy Street,Exeter, showcasing this season’sc o l l e c t i o n s.
Throughout the day judges will bewalking around the course to findthe winners of the competitive BestDressed titles, including BestDressed Lady, Best Dressed Gent andBest Hat, which will be announcedon the day.
Tips for being a winning bet atnext year’s Ladies’ Day can be pickedup during the EXiV Boutiquefashion show.
The store is run by mother anddaughter team Marion Harbinsonand Nichola Hartley, and thedynamic duo will be showcasing mixand match collections ofcontemporary brands hand pickedfrom across Europe.
The amateur models have beencarefully selected from aroundExeter, and will have their hairstyled by three hairdressers fromV&M Hair in Little Castle Street,E xe t e r.
The compere, popular and wittyBBC Radio Devon presenter JudiSpiers, will join the models on thecatwalk to describe the outfits anda c c e s s o r i e s.

refreshing than splashing around inthe city’s water parks.
The eagerly-awaited new £110,000Splash Pad at St Thomas PleasureGround has recently opened and hasprovided Exeter with a water playarea that is unique to the city.
The fun includes a series of waterfountains, cannons and a toppingbucket on top of a brightly-colouredrubber surface.
There has also been a series ofgeneral improvements in the parkwith an old tarmac area beingreplaced with freshly laid turf, idealfor picnicking families.
The facility replaces the oldpaddling pool which despite beingpopular and much-loved wasshowing signs of age.
Exeter city council hopes theSplash Pad will be a hit this summerwith youngsters all over the city.
Water fun can also be had atHeavitree Pleasure Ground which ishome to two paddling ones, a smallerone for young children and a shallowlarger pool for older children.
Improvements were made to thepools last year and is hugely popularwhen summer is in full swing.
Keith Owen, lead councillor forenvironment, health and wellbeing,said: “I am delighted with the newSplash Pad and am confident that itwill be just as much of a hit as theprevious facility.
“The paddling pool at St Thomaswas an important part of Exeter’s
play and recreation facilities and wewere very clear that we needed toretain water play at this site.”● Splashing and swimming fun canalso be enjoyed at Topsham OutdoorSwimming Pool.
Open from late April to midSeptember, the 25m heated pool ishome to public swims and inflatablefun as well as a swimming club,adults only sessions, lane swimmingand private hire.

Also during the afternoon thewinner of a competition to designthe cover for the CD was announced.Youngsters from AlphingtonPrimary were invited to create it –and they more than rose to thechalleng e.
Barnaby Channon’s design waschosen as the winner, with ChloeCox and Freddie Hill, runners-up.
“The entries were all really good,”said Jeff. “The band had the difficulttask of choosing the winner.
“The youngsters from AlphingtonPrimary who submitted entries are areally talented bunch.”
All the designs were displayed inthe salon for the celebration event.
Also during the afternoon Jeff andhis team held a blow-dry bonanzawhere they offered blow dries andup-dos to customers for a donation tothe charity pot.
All the money raised is going toHospiscare, Great Ormond StreetHospital and the Hair and BeautyBenevolent Fund.
“The Sunday Skyclub played liveand there was Pimms andchampa gne,” Jeff added. “It was agreat day and even better that weraised £700 for charity. It was a goodstart to our year of celebrations andfundraising.”
