Underage 2011 Medals Presentation Evening

Blarney/Rathpeacon Underage GAA Club hosted a Medals Presentation Evening for our 2011 Underage teams on Friday the 16th of March. Scoil Mhuire gan Smál was decked out for the occasion in the red and white and there was a huge crowd of players, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins and supporters in attendance to see all our 2011 teams, from U11 up to U16 receive their medals from Cork dual star Eoin Cadogan after what was a momentous year for the club. Blarney club Chairman Michael O’Shea welcomed all the players and supporters on behalf of the club and

congratulated them on their efforts and successes throughout the year. Eoin

Cadogan then told the crowd that he started his hurling career, just like many of the medal winners on the night, in the Blarney Parish Leagues. He also congratulated the teams on their achievements and spoke to the players about the importance of believing in yourself and not giving up in order to achieve your best as a player. The various team managers then introduced each of their players to the crowd and they were presented with their medals to great applause. The club also presented Barra O’Connell, who played with the Cork Minors in 2011 with a plaque to mark his achievement. Comhgairdeas do na h-imreoirí go leir, agus go n-éirí libh sa bhliain seo chugainn!

Underage Update! All underage teams from U11 right through to Minor are up and running for 2012. The U11 and U12 teams have each played 6 games in the Central 2 football leagues, and the U11s are currently undefeated, while the U12 team are also going well. Both teams are out again this coming weekend against Valley Rovers (away) and Sliabh Rua (home) respectively. The U13 team were very unlucky to lose out by 2 points against Erins Own in their first game on the 18th, despite scoring 7-3 in a cracking game of football. The U14s were also beaten in the Féile Peile by a very strong Glanmire side, but they will hope to go one better when they play Féile Iomáint on Easter weekend. Both teams will be in hurling league action in the coming weeks. The U16 teams have also seen action in the football leagues. The Central 3 team top the league having won 2 of their 3 games to date. The Premier 2 team also got off to a good start beating Youghal by 6 points to 3. The U15 team gets underway in the hurling league against Balinhassig on Sunday the 25th. The Minors have also won 2 of their 3 league games, and play Fr. O’Neills in Blarney this Sunday at 3pm. All support for our young teams is welcome, please keep an eye on www.blarneygaa.ie for all fixtures and results!
