General InformationCourse Description

The Annual Update in Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation is a two-day course designed to update participants in major topics in nephrology relevant to current medical practice. The topics covered include fluid and electrolyte disorders, hypertension, glomerular diseases, dialysis, and kidney transplantation.

Through a combination of lectures (including literature review), break-out sessions, and case-based presentations, this course will deliver clinical pearls plus up-to-date and cutting edge information that can be directly integrated into clinical practice.

The course provides ample opportunity for interaction with expert faculty. This year, we continue to feature the popular audience response system to maximize speaker and audience interactions. In addition, a comprehensive electronic syllabus will be provided for future reference.

FridayOn Friday, September 28 you will have a choice of two breakout sessions in the afternoon. A Current Topic Symposium will be offered as an alternative to all who choose not to participate in the Friday afternoon general session. The topics will be of particular interest to PAs, NPs, RNs, LPNs, and PCTs; however, all participants including physicians are welcome to attend this symposium. Nursing continuing education hours (accredited) will be offered for attendance at this Friday afternoon session.

SaturdayABIMMaintenanceofCertification Medical Knowledge Modules will be will be offered during the Saturday afternoon portion of the course. During this interactive workshop and using the audience response system, participants will complete two “Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge” modules (25 questions each). Faculty will critique and review the literature related to each question’s topic. See information regarding how to sign up for this session under the Registration section of this brochure.

A new feature of the course this year is an introductory workshop entitled “Bedside UltrasonographyfortheNephrologists”. Offered on Saturday afternoon, this hands-on workshop will provide participants with the skills to acquire ultrasound images of the kidneys, bladder and large vessels to assess fluid status as well as the ability to recognize common pathology detected on ultrasound.

An additional fee of $75 is required to participate in this workshop, and space is limited to the first 10 participants. See information regarding how to sign up for this session under the Registration section of this brochure.
