Programme
• ESA Programme – ARTES-11• Objective:
• 3 Sub-elements– Platform– First mission – Hispasat Advanced Generation 1 (AG1)– Product Line development
To develop a European cost-effective platform to address the segment of small telecommunications satellites in
geostationary orbit of less than 300 kg of payload mass, 3 kW of payload power and a lifetime of up to 15 years.
To develop and launch a small satellite allowing in-orbit validation of the platform and associated new
technologies.

SSC Contributions – AOCS S/W
• Major element of Satellite S/W. Includes FDIR functionality• Agile S/W development methodology used, together with Test-
driven design• Software split up in scenarios, based on experience from Prisma
and Smart-1• Each scenario adds functionality to AOC Core S/W• Incremental delivery provided to OHB for system-level integration• S/W tested on SSC-developed simulators• S/W validated on system-level simulator provided by OHB• Independent S/W validation included in programme scope• S/W developed in Matlab and Simulink• Auto generated C-code provided as flight S/W
1119 October 2010 Flygteknik 2010 - SGEO
SSC Contributions - EPPS
• Continue the heritage from SMART-1• Implement full EP system• EP-only for all station-keeping manoeuvres• Flight demonstration of new EP Thruster technology
– HEMPT – High Efficiency Multi Stage Plasma Thruster– First mission will have 4 Hall Effect Thrusters (HET) as well
• SPT-100 thrusters from Fakel– HEMPT development not completed on time –> 4 additional HET
• EPPS Titanium Tubing• Sputtering Analysis

Xenon Tank Assembly
• SGEO equipped with two Xenon Tanks
• Each tank is 60 litres, holding 110 kg of Xenon at 186 bar MEOP
• Equipped with dual ports to allow efficient xenon loading
• Xenon Loading Cart procured by SSC to enable loading of tanks prior to shipment to launch site.

SSC Contributions – EP Tubing
1619 October 2010 Flygteknik 2010 - SGEO
SSC Contribution – Mission Analysis
• Define the EP Flight Operations Plan• Station Keeping with collocation strategy• Optimum Station Keeping scenario must be established to minimize
propellant consumption during 15 years lifetime, including control of inclination and longitudinal drift together with angular momentum
• Collocation Strategy– First mission to be collocated with 4 existing satellites with CP
only.– Challenge to demonstrate how to enter and maintain position– Substantial simulations necessary to demonstrate behaviour at
possible failure of EP thrusters

Swedish contributions - SMU
• The Satellite Management Unit (SMU) is provided by RUAG Space AB in Göteborg.
• Provides all the typical satellite functionalities, including dedicated interfaces for AOCS and propulsion systems.
• Fully redundant• Processing is handled by a LEON2
processor (SPARC V8) providing up to 45 MIPS, 6 Mbytes EDAC protected SRAM and 4Mbytes EEPROM. The Mass memory has a storage capacity of 2 x 4 Gbit.
• Breadboard and EQM delivered. Testing of flight will start end 2010.
• RUAG Space AB also provides Ku-band and Ka-band converters.
1819 October 2010 Flygteknik 2010 - SGEO
Swedish contributions – Central tube
• The Central Tube is provided by RUAG Space AB – Linköping
• 55 kg, almost 3 meters long and 1.2 meters in diameter
• Sandwich structure made of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic with an aluminium core.
• Complex manufacturing process, requiring precision and care, controlled by x-ray and airborne ultrasonic.
• Almost all development tests are completed, and the manufacturing of the structural and thermal model for the Small GEO central tube will be completed shortly. (R
