Celebrating its 75th anniver- sary this year, the OBIE Awards program is the oldest and one of the most prestigious shows in advertising, awarding creative excellence in the OOH medium. In addition to multiple Bronze, Silver, and Gold OBIE Awards, OAAA will present the first ever Platinum OBIE Award, as well as four new Craft Awards. Additional categories this year honor OOH work that is contextual, engaging, experiential, and more. “OOH continues to grow and with it so does the beauty, creativity, and innovation used in creat- ing the work,” said OAAA’s Chief Marketing Officer Stephen Freitas. “We had hundreds of great entries this year that exemplify the effectiveness of the medium.” The 115 campaigns nominated this year demonstrate the importance of creativ- ity in OOH, and many showcase the medium’s ability to offer a customized experience to capture audience attention. To promote its new exhibit on ancient Greek artifacts, the Field Museum installed a giant Trojan Horse encasing one of Chicago’s busiest subway entrances. The installation could not be missed as passersby snapped photos and tweeted about the experience. “This year’s finalists demonstrate that it often only takes a few words and a strong visual to create great OOH,” said Chief OBIE Judge Jeanie Caggiano. “If you can convey a message that is simple yet powerful, you can design for OOH and maybe even win an OBIE.” To demonstrate its vast travel network, American Airlines added a shadow to its logo flying over its many popular locations. This “Shad- ows” campaign demonstrates how stunning imagery paired with a recognizable symbol can relay a powerful message. As technologies expand and improve, there are greater opportunities to personalize interactions with consumers. Google Home took inno- vation to great heights by installing the many impressive features the product offers into multiple bus shelters. Using a touch screen, the shelters allowed commuters to make temperature and lighting adjust- ments and select music. The 2017 winners will be announced at the OBIE Awards Gala on Tuesday, May 16. 115 Campaigns Vying for Top Awards in OOH Design

OAAA has revealed the 115 contenders for the 2017 OBIE Awards Celebrating its 75th anniver-sary this year the OBIE Awards program is the oldest and one of the most prestigious shows in advertising awarding creative excellence in the OOH medium

OAAA Now Offers lsquoTech Edrsquo

Special Report By Ian Dallimore Chair OAAA Innovations Committee Director of Digital Information + Sales Strategy Lamar Advertising Company Last year the OAAA Innovations Committee met to determine how best to educate the OOH community about the many new technologies available to enhance all aspects of the ad campaign process - from planning and buying to execution and reporting With so many tech companies as OAAA members under the new ldquoTechnologyrdquo membership category

many of whom sat around the committee table we decided to lay out an entire OOH tech ecosystem breaking down OAAA tech members into more specific categories This graphic allowed us to look at which companies can do what and for whom

So now ndash we have this ecosystem listing which OAAA tech members offer data col-lection solutions or transactional plat-forms or content management systems or some other tech service ndash how do we let the OOH industry know these services are available and how they work We created the OAAA Tech Hub

The OAAA Tech Hub which launched last week offers members a central location to find information about OOH tech com-panies and their capabilities Here you can search under different solution cat-egories and learn about each of the pro-viders ndash read blog posts download fact sheets watch short videos and more

As part of this new ldquotech edrdquo initiative OAAA has developed a new webinar series aimed at educating members about emerging capabilities in the OOH market The webinar series kicked off with SITO Mobile discussing real-time consumer behavior data More than 100 people attended the webinar armed with dozens of questions and nearly 70 percent of those who provided feed-back said they plan to learn more about the technology that was presented These webinars will take place through-out the year and recordings of each will be posted to the OAAA Tech Hub One webinar attendee said ldquoThis is great information to utilize when determining how valuable our specific locations are to potential advertisersrdquo Check out the OAAA Tech Hub here

Irsquom so excited OAAA members are already making use of the Tech Hub and are interested in learning more about these innovative services The Innovations Committee is working with OAAA to ensure ldquotech edrdquo is carried over into the annual convention this year too

One of the main workshops at the 2017 OAAAGeopath National Convention + Expo taking place in New Orleans May 15-16 will offer insights into how the tech world is working with the OOH industry Wersquoll hear from experts at major tech corporations such as Pinterest Foursquare and Spyder to name a few These techies will likely blow our minds as they discuss ways they currently connect with consumers collect data and how they can help us better engage our audiences

And new this year to the Expo is the Tech Hive Here wersquoll see what the ldquobuzzrdquo is all about Tech companies will offer service and product demonstrations so we can see in real life how it works I plan to spend a lot of time in the Tech Hive learning all I can about new opportunities to impress clients and consumers

And if you havenrsquot yet I encourage all OAAA Tech Members to submit information to be included in the Tech Hub This helps OOH professionals like myself easily find what we need to determine what might work best for our adver-tisers

OAAA Now Offers lsquoTech Edrsquo

Special Report By Ian Dallimore Chair OAAA Innovations Committee Director of Digital Information + Sales Strategy Lamar Advertising Company Last year the OAAA Innovations Committee met to determine how best to educate the OOH community about the many new technologies available to enhance all aspects of the ad campaign process - from planning and buying to execution and reporting With so many tech companies as OAAA members under the new ldquoTechnologyrdquo membership category

many of whom sat around the committee table we decided to lay out an entire OOH tech ecosystem breaking down OAAA tech members into more specific categories This graphic allowed us to look at which companies can do what and for whom

So now ndash we have this ecosystem listing which OAAA tech members offer data col-lection solutions or transactional plat-forms or content management systems or some other tech service ndash how do we let the OOH industry know these services are available and how they work We created the OAAA Tech Hub

The OAAA Tech Hub which launched last week offers members a central location to find information about OOH tech com-panies and their capabilities Here you can search under different solution cat-egories and learn about each of the pro-viders ndash read blog posts download fact sheets watch short videos and more

As part of this new ldquotech edrdquo initiative OAAA has developed a new webinar series aimed at educating members about emerging capabilities in the OOH market The webinar series kicked off with SITO Mobile discussing real-time consumer behavior data More than 100 people attended the webinar armed with dozens of questions and nearly 70 percent of those who provided feed-back said they plan to learn more about the technology that was presented These webinars will take place through-out the year and recordings of each will be posted to the OAAA Tech Hub One webinar attendee said ldquoThis is great information to utilize when determining how valuable our specific locations are to potential advertisersrdquo Check out the OAAA Tech Hub here

And new this year to the Expo is the Tech Hive Here wersquoll see what the ldquobuzzrdquo is all about Tech companies will offer service and product demonstrations so we can see in real life how it works I plan to spend a lot of time in the Tech Hive learning all I can about new opportunities to impress clients and consumers
