Friday 18th August 2017 Principals Report Student Excellence

Each week students visit the principals office to share their learning experiences with me. These

students are selected by their teachers and receive a ‘Happygram’ to take home. Students

amazed me with the depth of their understandings of concepts and skills learned in their

classroom. This week I have been entertained with flutists, Layla and Carrissa and learned how

to draw using perspective techniques from Domonic Orme, Cooper Burnham, Tayte Smith and

Makai Damaso. I enjoyed listening to young scientists Beau Martin, Dylan Locke, Olivia Adams,

Porshia Elliott, Sophia Law, and Benny Denniss explain the concept of ‘capillarity’ and played

with slime. Shannae Watson and Cooper White dazzled me with science as they explained the

process of creating crystal stars using safe, common house hold products. Teachers are

genuinely bringing the science curriculum alive with engaging hands on experiences. Yesterday,

I was entertained by student readings of imaginative texts titled, ‘My Great Adventure’. Lucy Ord,

Amaliya Hazra, Cooper Carroll and Elijah Rawnsley proudly read their compositions to me,

followed by a chat about the author visits which they found to be inspiring.

Transition To School

Last Tuesday, we welcomed many new children and their families to our school in the ’Links’

session held by Mrs Jardine-Harris. These young, soon to be Kindergarten students cuddled our

visiting baby chickens, worked independently to create craft chickens and enjoyed listening to a

chicken story. The group ventured down to hall to experience the fun and energy of the ‘Science

Week’ activities with Mr Sanday and our Early Stage 1 cohort. They found it to be a ‘hair raising

experience’ as they interacted with the static electricity experiment.

We know that our transition students will be back each week to enjoy many school events and

the ‘Links’ activities that are offered until the end of the year. If you know of a child who would

benefit from the ‘Links’ transition to school program encourage them to come along.

Author Visits

Martain Chatterton author and illustrator, and his wife Annie visited the school today to entertain

students with his adventures through writing. Some lucky students were chosen to have

caricatures drawn of them. Below is Ryley Neverov smiling like a cheeky monkey. Darci

Holbrook experienced Martin as he built a drama using imagery and colourful vocabulary. She

was enthralled by the exciting opportunity to be one of Martins’ characters and part of the fun.

Thank you to Mrs Julie Treharne for organising this special event.

Regards,

Mrs Kathryn Vicich

Wednesday 23rd August, and will commence at 11.40am. Everyone is welcome to attend. All classes will be parading.

After the Parade, please visit the Book Fair in the Library, where there will be lots of books that can be purchased at reasonable prices.

We very much look forward to seeing the families and friends of our students at our Book Parade.

On Monday, author Rebecca Johnson, visited our school. She spoke to K - 2 students about how she writes her books and why she loves to write animal stories. The children participated in some role play and asked lots of interesting questions. Rebecca also signed all the copies of the books she sold.
