In Advance Recruit a Helper to operate the music and sound effects CDs and participate in the lesson

as the king (see pages 45).

Determine which songs you will use and be prepared to lead the children in singing.

Song suggestions: Upbeat song for transition from Activity Stations to the Creative Bible Teaching The Happy Dance (Reach Up High CD) Dance, Shout & Sing (Touch the SkyCD) Touch the Sky (Touch the SkyCD)

Determine whether or not you will use the sound effects CD. If you prefer not to use theCD, you might make the sound yourself, invite the kids to make the sound with you, oromit the sound altogether, and modify the lesson accordingly.

Gather the supplies listed above and arrange your classroom as follows:

Place the royal box on the table with tablecloth, and the King puppet under the table

as in Lesson 9. Place the Bible, Daniel doll, crown, and lions picture in the royal box. Photocopy the royal note on page 3, place it in an envelope with the words, To

My Friends, From King Henry written on the front, and place the royal note onthe table.

Print the fronts and backs of the game cards. (There are four identical cards perpageyou need only one card from each page.) Copy corresponding fronts andbacks onto cardstock and cut them apart so you have four two-sided game cards.

READ DANIEL 6. At the end of his senior year in high school, Quinn was invited to thehonor students dinner. In front of 25 other high school scholars and their parents, Quinn

told everyone about his plans for the future: To love God and do His will. At a public schoolthose were not the most popular words to say, but Quinn knew he had to say what hebelieved. God helped Quinn do the right thing. Luke, a freshman in high school, spent mostof his lunches in the cafeteria talking about God and His creation. Luke passionatelyexplained to his friends the differences between evolution and creation. Did he do it becausehe hoped it would make him more popular? No. He did it because he knew God was on hisside, helping him speak up for what is right. This week, be thankful! God is on your sideeveryday, helping you do what is right.

[Find a note on the table.] Look! There is a note on the table. It says, To My Friends, FromKing Henry. I wonder what it says.

[Open the royal note and read it aloud.]Dear Friends,Im sorry Im not there. I will join you later. Dont worry, I left some fun thingsfor you in my royal box. You will have a great time. wave them back and forth] if you love hearing stories! [Along with kids, raise your arms andwave them back and forth.] Lets see what King Henry brought us.

[Excitedly open the box without showing kids the things inside.]

    TEACHER:

Whoa! King Henry has some cool things in here. [Show the Bible.] What book is this,

friends? [Bible.] We can use this to tell the Bible story. [Show crown and doll.] And here are afew more things we can use!

I think were ready to tell our story. So lets click on our listening ears. Click! Click! [Tug oneach earlobe.] And lets put on our special eyes. Shookum! Shookum! [Hold hands to eyes, one at a time, shaping glasses.] Good job!

In our Bible story today is a man named Daniel. [Show doll.] Daniel loved God. He lovedGod a lot. And the Bible says there was a king. [Ask Helper to be the king. He/She can remainat the CD player during the story. Stand by Helper and place crown on his/her head.] The kingliked Daniel because he made right choices.

    HELPER:

I like Daniel [give Daniel a hug] because Daniel makes right choices [give a thumbs up].

    TEACHER:

[Return to stand by table.] One day the king made a new rule. He said that nobody couldpray to God. Everyone had to pray to the king.

    HELPER:

[Grand voice.] I have a new rule. Everyone must pray to me, the king. If you do not followmy rules, you will be put into a cave with lions.

TEACHER:[Take Lions picture (LG 9) from royal box and lean it against the box.] Lots of lions! But should

you pray to a king? [No.] Friends, does that sound like a right choice? [No.] No, praying to aking is wrong. Should you pray to God? [Yes.] Yes, praying to God is right. Daniel knew if heprayed to the king, it would be wrong. But if he prayed to God, the king would put him inthe cave with all the lions. What do you think Daniel did? [Take responses from the kids.]

Who do you think helped Daniel? [God.] Daniel loved God, so he did not pray to the king. That would have been wrong. Daniel did what is right and prayed to God. Daniel knew thatGod would help him. When Daniel was home, he prayed to God. [Kneel Daniel doll down asif praying to God.] Then the king heard that Daniel broke the rule. Uh oh.

HELPER:I am so sad that Daniel broke my rule. I like Daniel, but he has to go in the cave with all thelions because he did not follow the rule.

    TEACHER:

So the king put Daniel in the cave with all the lions. [Place Daniel doll by the lions picture.]

    TEACHER:

[Say the following as the Lion roaring sound effect plays.] If you were in the cave with thelions, would you be scared? [Yes.] Even though Daniel was in the cave with the lions, Danielknew he made the right choice when he prayed to God. Who do you think helped Daniel?[God.] Daniel knew God would help him. And God did help Daniel. He sent an angel toclose all the lions mouths. [Lion roaring sound effect stops playing.]

Listen. [Pause for a moment, listening.] The lions all became quiet. God helped Daniel whenHe sent the angel. The angel closed all the mouths of the lions so Daniel wouldnt get hurt. The next day the king ran to see if Daniel was okay.

    HELPER:

    Daniel, are you okay?

    TEACHER:

[Pick up the Daniel doll.] Daniel was okay. The lions did not hurt him.

[Helper removes crown as Teacher reviews story with kids.]

    TEACHER:

    KING:

Hello there, friends. Did you have a good time learning the Bible story?

    TEACHER:

Oh yes, King Henry! Thank you for all the fun things in your royal box. Friends, lets tellKing Henry what we learned. God [point up] helps me [point thumbs to self]. God [pointup] helps me [point thumbs to self]. That means that God will help us make right choices,

just like he helped Daniel. King Henry, sometimes its hard to make a right choice.

KING:Thats right. Can you tell me some right choices you are going to try to make when you gohome? [Allow children to respond. They might need prompts to think of things such as choosingto listen to their mom and dad, choosing not to push a friend who took their toy, etc.]

Those are good examples. And remember, when you need to make a right choice, God canhelp you. God helps us. God can do anything. Lets all stand and sing.
