A. 110V BATTERY BANK SIZING CALCULATIONS

1- SCOPE

To meet the requirements as per SOW of Al-Leith 33/13.8kV substation, this document deals with sizing 110V battery bank to cater for new as well as relocated equipment in substation building. 110V DC system shall consist of 1 No. battery bank and charger.

2 - CALCULATIONS

The calculations for sizing the battery are based on IEEE-1115

2-1 CELL SIZING CALCULATIONS :

The station DC auxillary power supply parameters for DC Control System are as follows.

Battery Type = Ni-Cad

Nominal DC system Voltage = 110 V

Minimum allowable system voltage percentage = 0.9

End cell voltage = 1.1 V

Minimum Allowable DC system Voltage = 99 V

Unit Loads for Trip Coils have been given table-2

a) Worst Critical case of assessing the momentary Loading :

i ) Worst Critical case assessing the momentary loading has been assessed which involves simultaneous tripping of 5 Nos. of 33kV CBs on 33kV bus fault and 8 Nos. of 13.8kV CBs on 13.8kV bus fault

Load of 5 x 2 No. Trip Coils = 5 x 2 x 50 = 500 W

Load of 8 x 2 No. Trip Coils = 8 x 2 x 50 = 800 W

Total Trip Coils = 1300 W

Nominal DC system Voltage = 110 V

Total Tripping Current = 11.82 A

2.4 RESTORATION LOADS

Momentary Loading for restoration is considered as the load for closing 2 no. 33kV CB, 1 Nos. of 13.8kV CBs, tripping of 1 No. of 13.8kV CB ( if the fault persists ) and 1 No. of Spring Charging motor running. Load details are given in table 2

To meet the requirements as per SOW of Al-Leith 33/13.8kV substation, this document deals with sizing 110V battery charger to cater for new as well as relocated equipment in existing SWGR building. DC system shall have one battery float / boost charger.

2 - CALCULATIONS :

The ampere hour rating of a battery charger is determined by equation which is as perTechnical specification

A = (1.25 X L)+ (BIF X AHR) ) / 0.83 1RT

Where :

A = required charger rating in amperes

L = Maximum Required DC load in amperes = 3.6( Continuous load is considered )

BIF = Battery inefficiency factor = 1.1

AHR = Ampere hour removed during discharge = 208(Maximum discharger is considered)

RT = Recharge time in hours = 16
