Surah Hud (سورة هود) Surah Hud is a Meccan surah with 123 ayat.

Abu Ishaq narrated from Ikrimah, from Ibn Abbas who said: “Abu Bakr [may Allah be pleased with him] said: ‘O Messenger of Allah! You have become gray.’ He said: ‘I have gone gray

from (Surat) Hud, Al-Waqi`ah, Al-Mursalat and `Amma Yatasa'alun and Idhash-Shamsu Kuwwirat.’” (Jami At Tirmidhi Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 3297)

Relation between the beginning of the surah and the end of the surah (موافقة أول السورة آلخرها)

Beginning of the surah: the command to worship Allah alone (االمر بعبادة اهلل وحده): Ayah 1,2. End of the surah: command to worship Allah (االمر بالعبادة): Ayah 123.

The main theme of Surah Hud is to be balanced in worship (التوازن في العبادة) and continuation in reforming (االستمرار في االصالح). To be constant in reforming needs balance.

Topics of the Surah (مواضيع السورة)

Ayah 1-24: Reality of the aqeedah (حقائق العقيدة): Ayah 1-7: about the Qur'an and what the people do with the Qur’an Ayah 8-11: Stance of the mushrikeen and believers regarding the blessings and hardships. Ayah 12: Tightness of the Prophet’s chest: the caller to Allah needs to be balanced in order to continue the way to Allah. That is why it is important to establish the aqeedah. Ayah 13-16: Allah is challenging the mushrikeen because they are preferring the duniya over the akhirah and their recompense: they are the ones who are making the chest of the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) tight. Ayah100-123: Conclusion from the stories (التعقيب على القصص) Ayah 100-102: The caller to Allah needs to continue the way and not give up or turn away. Allah will destroy the disbelievers. Ayah 103-109: Some scenes of the day of judgement. Ayah 110-111: Warning from disputing with each other over the Qur’an. Ayah 112-115: Command to the Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) and the believers: this is the balance. Ayah 116-119: the way of Allah to destroy the previous nations. Ayah 120-123: Allah related these stories to us to give us firmness and continue the path to Him.
