INSTITUT D'INGÉNIERIE SUPRA-MOLÉCULAIRE - STRASBOURG, FRANCE
In the field of sun-resistant pyrolytic
coatings the Stopsol range created by
Glaverbel has always been the inter-
national benchmark. Glaverbel has
managed to develop a new pyrolytic
process (CVD technology: Chemical
Vapour Deposition, see table below)
and design a globally unique glazing
product, SUNERGY®.
SUNERGY® combines solar control
with thermal insulation. It is also an
excellent response to current
architectural trends, thanks to its
neutrality and low reflection.
The name SUNERGY® is no coinci-
dence; the product creates synergies
and offers a solution to the problems
that architects and glass processors
had, until now, to contend with.

SUNERGY GREEN IN STRUCTURAL GLAZING
Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD)
This technology is the reaction between a high temperature and a gas that
creates the continuous application of perfectly uniform layers of metal
oxides onto a glass resulting in a hard pyrolytic coating.
Brilliant aesthetics SUNERGY® is the answer to the most
advanced architectural requirements.
It combines neutrality with low reflec-
tion*, which allows objects to be seen
in their true colour. The glazing is
available in three colours, each with its
own unique hue: clear, green and azur.
Excellent technical propertiesSUNERGY® has excellent technical
properties. The combination of solar
control with low reflection properties
and thermal insulation will appeal to
everybody.
Maximum comfortSUNERGY® offers visual and thermal
comfort. The excellent combination of
light transmission, solar control and
thermal insulation makes SUNERGY®
the ideal glass for all seasons - warm
in winter, cool in summer.
* In some countries there are regulations whichprescribe a low reflection for the sake of trafficsafety. SUNERGY® complies with nearly all ofthese regulations.

Durable quality and ease of useThanks to the hard pyrolytic coating
and the exceptional technical proper-
ties of SUNERGY®, glass processors
have no trouble in complying with the
current architectural challenges.
Here are some of the advantages of
a pyrolytic coating:
• no special transportation required
• no edge deletion
• leaves no scratches on the glass
• problem-free stacking and storage
• different processing possibilities
(tempering, bending, laminating, ...)
• can be used as single or double
glazing
Thanks to its countless advantages
SUNERGY® is suitable both for resi-
dential and for commercial architectu-
ral applications. On page 10 you can
see a number of examples.

SUNERGY® green and azur offer a
higher energy absorption than normal
glass. We recommend to perform a
calculation on thermal stress.
Double glazingWhen using SUNERGY® in double
glazing both the solar control and
insulating properties are reinforced.
The heat loss coefficient is reduced
to U = 1.8 W/(m2.K) instead of
U = 2.9 W/(m2.K) for traditional double
glazing, which means an important
energy saving. Because the loss of
heat from inside to outside is
reduced, it is much easier to keep the
climate indoors at an even tempera-
ture. But this also applies to warm
countries, where the temperature
indoors is kept at an agreeable level,
which means that savings can be
made in the air conditioning.

SUNERGY® coating
Single glazingThanks to the pyrolytic coating it is
possible to use SUNERGY® in single
glazing. In this case it is the solar con-
trol properties that are the most
important. If SUNERGY® is applied in
position 2 you achieve maximum per-
formance combined with low reflection.
The visual appearance is more or less
the same with the coating in positions
1 and 2.
It is recommended that SUNERGY® is
always in position 2. Position 1, how-
ever, remains possible. In that case
we would advise you to contact
Glaverbel.

Laminated glassSUNERGY® can also be used in a lam-
inated combination. Laminated glass
contains two or more sheets of glass,
held together by one or more layers
of PVB*, or acoustic interlayers
Stratophone®.
Given the technical properties we
advise it to be used in position 2.
Other functions can also be obtained
by combining laminated and asym-
metrical double glazing systems.
*PVB: PolyVinylButyral is the material of the layer, which ensures that the panes of glass to be lam-inated are held together.

During installation SUNERGY® must
be protected against contaminants
such as cement splashes, weld spat-
ters or grinding sparks etc. If
despite all precautions splash-
es of cement, lime, silicone or
aluminium land on the glass
you must remove them imme-
diately. If you do not, then the
contaminant will affect the
glass and cause irreparable
damage. The marks caused by
weld spatters or grinding
burns cannot be removed. In
that case the glass will have to
be replaced.
During storage SUNERGY® must not
be exposed to direct sunlight and it is
important to ensure that there is ade-
quate ventilation.
As soon as the glass has been
installed, all labels, advertising stick-
ers, adhesive tape etc. must be
removed. You must never stick any-
thing on the side with the coating.
After installation the glass must be
washed immediately with clean water
to remove all abrasive dust particles.
Never write on the coating of the
glazing with chalk or other instru-
ments. Keep sharp or pointed objects
away from the window.

How can you recognise thecoated side of SUNERGY® ?Glass sheets from Glaverbel always
have a removable ink mark on
the side with the coating.
When the sheets have been
cut you can recognise the
side with the coating as fol-
lows. You can ask Glaverbel
for a device which clearly
identifies the side with the
coating due to the conduc-
tive properties of the coating.
Otherwise you can use a
standard electrical conductiv-
ity tester.
Make sure you do not scratch the
coating with any sharp edges the
tester may have. Therefore it is best to
hold it against the edge of the glass.

SUNERGY® can be used in sealed
units, single or laminated glass. The
cleaning tips below are mainly appli-
cable in cases when the coating is
exposed to harmful environmental
influences such as:
• application in single glass (position
2) or single laminated glass (posi-
tion 2)
• application in position 1 (not rec-
ommended by Glaverbel)
In all other cases the coating is not
subject to harmful environmental
influences and can be cleaned in the
same way as ordinary glazing systems
with the usual cleaning products.
How frequently SUNERGY® has to be
cleaned in the two cases referred to
above depends on the environment,
the type of windows' drainage etc.
Regular cleaning is important to keep
the glass in good condition.
C L E A N I N G T I P S
SUNERGY®, beauty that lasts
In normal casesClean with the usual cleaning prod-
ucts, rinse thoroughly and leave to
dry. Fingerprints, fat stains or putty
can be removed with solvents such as
acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) or
ammonia, provided these products
do not attack the gaskets, sealants or
finishes of the window. In order to
protect the coating as well as the
sealing agents, the edge seals of the
double glazed units, the PVB layers of
the laminated glazing, the window
frames and the curtain walls against
corrosion, no abrasive substances,
alkaline materials or acid solutions
must be used.
In difficult casesIn areas where there is heavy soiling or
after heavy showers which lead to
deposits of concrete or metal residues,
it is advisable to clean the windows
more frequently to avoid a build-up of
abrasive dust particle deposits.
For further information and for tips
about the maintenance of exception-
ally dirty windows we recommend
you contact your distributor or
Glaverbel.
The advice above for maintenance
and cleaning is only applicable to
SUNERGY® from Glaverbel.
