Michaelmas
Our fall initiative related to fundraising for 2016 will be a raffle coupled with the
St. Michael Feast Day Celebration, Michaelmas! The plan is to combine our parish picnic
of late August, and our “We Give Thanks” Dinner Auction of November into one big celebra-
tion on the Feast of St. Michael, Thursday, September 29, 2016, Michaelmas! The specific
activities of the celebration will be outlined later, however Mass, dinner courtesy of the St. Michael Women’s Club, and even a rock band are all a part of the plans, along with a raffle and a few silent auction items. We have a hopeful goal of
raising $25,000 minus a $10,000 raffle prize. Less work, more fun!
The raffle tickets will be $50 each... only 500 tickets will be sold. There will be a guaranteed single prize of $10,000 to one winner. That is a 1 one in 500 chance to
win the $10,000! There will be no charge to attend the St. Michael Feast Day Celebration, Michaelmas, and
you do not have to purchase a raffle ticket to attend. The plan is for this celebration, and raffle, to become an annual event. We will begin selling raffle tickets mid-June through the night of the drawing on September 29th unless we sell all 500 tickets before then. The drawing will be at 8 P.M. in the Father Severin Life Center.
This is our way of putting the “FUN” back in fundraising. Gaming laws do not allow us to mail raffle tickets for purchase. Once purchased, however, we can mail your raffle ticket to you. In mid-June, you will find envelopes at the entrance to the church and in the pews. On the outside of the envelope there is a place for your contact infor-mation. You can place your check or cash for the number of tickets you wish to purchase in the envelope and drop it in the pink envelope locked box at the entrance to the church. You can also purchase tickets Monday through Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., in the Parish Office. Plus, members of the church leadership team will have numbered tickets to sell. Finally, you can mail
us your check and include your name, address and telephone number, and we can mail your numbered
ticket to you. Mark your calendar for a grand celebration…

Dear People of St Michael: Words simply cannot express the gratitude and appreciation I hold in my heart for all of you. It has been a pleasure serving as your Music Director for the past 9-1/2 years. Thank you for your kind words, the pat on the back, the hugs, the smiles, the unending support, and the prayers that you have offered for my next chap-ter. Thank you for taking time to say good-bye. The cards, the notes, and the tears that we've shared mean more than you will ever know. Please know that all of us are indeed where we need to be for a particular time and for a particular reason. I needed St. Michael's more than you probably needed me, and I am so very thankful for the friendships and the opportunities that I've had here with all of you. I have been able to be a part of some very special and memora-ble moments in your lives, and I will always have a smile on my face and fond memories in my thoughts when I think of St. Michael Parish in Greenfield.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I'm not sure when our paths will cross again (and I hope they do), but I am so very thankful for the time we have been together. May God bless you all.. Love always,
Cindy Powers

A personal note from the heart about ALZHEIMER’S
Hello Dear Friends, It has been 2 ½ years since my husband died from an early onset of Alzheimer’s disease at age 65. He dealt with the disease for several years on his own before his diagnosis and for 9 years after it. This is not unusual for an otherwise healthy person to suffer for a dozen or more years with Alzheimer’s. It is a progressive disease that begins with short term memory problems and progresses through the brain destroying abilities one function at a time until death. One can and does die of only Alzheimer’s disease. This disease creates a hardship on the family that is not only emotional, but financial. Many caregivers and family members do not believe there is any hope or help for them. While there is no cure for the disease, there are ways to give the person with dementia and their family a rewarding and productive life. It is no longer a disease that is dealt with by the family alone, and not talked about. It is no longer a disease that is hidden away from friends and society. Through the Alzheimer’s Association, there are support groups and educational programs for the caregivers and also programs for the person in the early stages of the disease. While I was caring for my husband, it was very difficult to ask for help or accept help that was offered. I felt like a juggler who, if a ball was added or removed, would lose total control. This tight control tends to lead to isolation; family members can disagree on care given and friends fall away, unsure how to help, but, there are ways to help a family in need. Next weekend, June 11 and 12 is Purple Sunday. Purple Sunday is a partnership between the Alzheimer’s Association of Greater Indiana and faith based organizations to bring awareness about the disease and to provide educational resources. I will have an information table at the main entrance. If you have any questions, please stop by the table and pick up some information to take home. I will be at the table on Sunday morning before and after each Mass to personally answer any questions. We also ask that you wear purple in honor of those struggling with the disease or in memory of those we have lost. Thank you. Love and Prayers,
Diana Dijak
