Dear Parents and carers,

Another fantastic week; there was a day this week when I had only one student

that was not in uniform, but then the rain hit and the excuses came in the next

day "my shoes were wet, so I am in my trainers". Radiators, newspaper and

airing cupboards are all available to solve this issue. I have a no excuses poli-

cy. We will get and maintain 100% high expectations at all times.

I continue to be so very proud of the majority of students that look smart and

are clearly taking pride in their uniform.

It was a pleasure to meet so many Year 10 parents this week, these evenings

are so important as they enable us to work together to support the needs of

our children.

Year 9 Engineers had an amazing trip to RAF Marham on Thursday, a great

opportunity to see engineering in practice. They came back inspired and raring

to go.

Exam period is nearly upon us, I wish all our Year 11 and 13 students the very

best of luck. Remember, in the words of Alex Ferguson, "Hard work will al-

ways overcome natural talent when natural talent does not work hard". You

have got this!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Kind regards,

Sarah Hartshorn

ARE YOU READY TO LEARN?

Being ready to learn is vitally important at all times as a high school student. Having the right equipment, ready to hand helps with this. One of the things that new Year 7 students tend to find difficult is self-organisation. A few simple tips and steps can help;

Always pack your bag the night before. Make sure you have all your equipment with you. A pencil case should have at least 2 pens and pencils, a rubber, a ruler and a highlighter. It is very useful to have a set of mathematical instruments and a calculator – your Maths

teachers will let you know which ones are the most suitable. Ensure that you have packed a reading book so you are ready to partake in our Drop

Everything and Read programme. Double check your timetable to see if you have PE or Food Technology. Always lay your uniform out the night before. Always check and see that you have completed and packed your homework.

We will provide a full list of uniform, PE kit and school equipment in our transition pack which will be published shortly.

WHAT ARE YOU READING AT THE MOMENT?

SATS can be a busy time. Sometimes it means that we forget to do some of the important things we need to. But do remember to keep reading. Choose something that will take your mind off your studies and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of reading for at least 15 minutes a day. It will give you a much needed break and help you to relax!

WEBSITE

Do keep a careful eye on the following section of our website http://kesacademy.co.uk/prospective-parents-carers/transition/ It will be the portal that I will share all the relevant transition information.

GOOD NEWS Short week in the academy but a very effective one.

Can I start by thanking you all for the support regarding uniforms, I have spoken to a few parents and their support with the new policy has been great. As I said back in July at Year 6 evening, we need your support in certain instances and this helps.

A really proud story for me was that last week Miss Locke took our two anti-bullying ambassadors on their course in Norwich, both JJ and Re-bekah both rose to the challenge and have passed the course with flying colours. Whilst reading the local paper, I also read about another stu-dent in our year (Liam Wood) passing his black belt, when I quizzed him on the matter on Tuesday his smile told the whole story. Can I just remind students that if you are successful in anything outside of the academy, Mrs Dixon, Mrs Gedge and I would love to know about it.

Finally, parents evening is nearly up-on us. (Thursday 23rd May—4- 7:00pm). This will give you the best opportunity for you to discuss with teachers your child’s progress and attainment in a subject. I would love to see you all there as I know many have been waiting since our Book Trawl to discuss any issues. Appoint-ments can be made online when bookings go live early next week—you will receive a text message to let you know when you can do this—and you will then receive an email with the link to the booking system.

Equipment Check

Again a reminder that pupils must come well prepared for lessons with all the correct equipment. Students should bring the following in a pen-cil case: two pens, a pencil, a ruler, a rubber, a pencil sharpener, a compass, a protractor, a calculator and coloured pencils

Uniform – Thank you for your support with ensuring that students come to school in correct uniform. Thank you also for continuing to support the school on the Mobile Policy—Mobile phones are not to be seen or heard. We are already beginning to see a huge positive impact of this in lessons.

With any issues related to your child’s welfare please contact Ms Sally Nurse the, Student Support Leader for Year 9 in the first instance. Her email details are [email protected].

Study Tips

Ask for help

If you're stuck on something, or something just doesn't seem to make sense, you can always ask for help. Talk to your teachers or parents about the things you don't understand. Talk to your friends and fellow students too.

Stay motivated

When you're studying it helps to keep in mind your reasons for doing all this hard work, like a course or career you're working towards. It can help to have something in your study space to remind you of your goals.

You could also decorate your study space with inspirational quotes or photos of people you admire and family members you want to make proud of you.

A message to students and parents

I write this after we have just had a brilliant parents evening– it was an important one. I want to put this in context as we haven’t got that long left before their first GCSE exam.

November 2019 -March 2020 they will start looking at Colleges or 6th Form courses.

April 2020 their first exam starts.

End of June 2020 all their exams will have been completed.

Mid August 2020 is their GCSE results day

September 2020 they start their new courses.

If you were unable to attend the parents evening, please contact me and I will do my best to give you an overview of their progress.

Also a special appreciation goes to Mary Booker for her hard work and achievement in her construction course.

NEXT WEEK’S ASSEMBLY

I also want to say a big thank you to all the Year 10’s that listened well in my last assembly. My next assembly is an inspirational talk on being pos-itive.

Year 11—Mr Waring

By the time you are reading this, your child may well have already started their GCSE exams and so I suppose this is the last parent bulletin I will be writing for this year group.

Don’t forget, if you have any questions about your child’s GCSE exams, our exams department have a direct email address to contact them on. The ad-dress is [email protected] and you can always call school and ask for Mr Waring who is always happy to help wherever he can.

However, I just wish to remind all Year 11 students, they have not left KESA just yet and the high standards of punctuality, attendance and uni-form are to be maintained throughout the exam period please.

Like going for a job interview, it is always best to arrive at the location at least 10 minutes before, to give you time to prepare for the interview ahead. It is exactly the same for the GCSE exams. Arrive at least 10 minutes early, check where you need to be and where you are sitting and get yourself in the right frame of mind, maybe do some quick questions with a friend.

Exam Checklist: Does your child:

Have a clear pencil case containing all the necessary equipment?

Own a calculator that they know how to use?

Have a water bottle with no labels on?

Know where they are to be and for when? Have their own personal exam timetable?

As a parent, you can support your child by ensuring they get a good balance of revision and rest time, that they go to bed at a reasonable time so getting plenty of sleep, as well as providing a hearty healthy breakfast.

Leavers hoodies have now been ordered, so any mistakes in spellings, colours etc., are the total responsibility of students. Here is hoping they have all checked!

Prom tickets are now on sale from Mr Waring, at the great price of just £25. There are a limited number of tickets, so first come first served.

Exam Tip: Be well prepared, arrive early and be positive

That just leaves me to wish all our students the very best of luck with their exams. To the parents of our students, for all of your support to the school in getting to this point in time. And lastly, but certainly not last, a huge thank you to all KES staff, past and present, for all their help and sup-port over the years. Thank you all.
