My name is Christie. Today, I live with the verse if God is for us who can be
against us? But it took me a long time to come to the realization that a loving God wants the best for me and my life. When my husband died in the middle of the night, I was devastated. I thought it was a bad dream. This couldn’t be happening to me. We had been used to two incomes, and Corey’s death drowned us financially. I tried to continue to live a normal life after his death, but before long, depression took over.
I turned to alcohol to numb my pain. I would drink until I couldn’t remember why I was drinking. It took me more than two years to realize I needed counseling. Meanwhile, I just kept drinking. I was raised in a Christian home, so I should have known better. To make things worse, my oldest boy would often pick up things in the house and ask, “Which one of these do you think daddy would like?” His question would devastate me.
My husband’s sudden death drove me to drink…butthe love of Jesus saved my life

I came to the Conners Center with nothing Then I heard about the Conners Center — a place that has changed my life. I came here with two outfits and only a few items of clothing for the boys. That was it. Now we have more than we could ever want. Someone even gave me a minivan so I could get around more easily. The love, counseling, compassion and the teaching of God’s Word through the Mountain Movers program are what make this place so special. Once I gave all my cares to Jesus, my life began to change. The Gospel is so powerful. When I pick up the Bible, I know God is going to speak to my heart and give me what I need for that moment. If there is anyone more grateful than I am, I’d like to meet her. I also want to thank you who donate your money and service to helping women like me get their lives back in order. You give us this gift every day — not only at Easter. Thank you.

Words for Our Times
In the summer of 1999, as the ever-encroaching waters of the
Atlantic Ocean threatened the Cape Hatteras Light House,
the stalwart structure was moved well inland from its original
location. It is now open to the public from early April until mid-
October, and visitors are welcome to climb
the 268 steps for a spectacular view of the
national seashore.
But there’s one problem. Yes, it’s still
a lighthouse. It is still magnificent. But it no
longer serves its original purpose of warning
those at sea of the rocks and shoals that
could cause damage to a vessel or death
to a ship’s crew.
When a lighthouse no longer maintains
its sense of purpose, it quickly loses its
value. But here at the Mission, when the
“lighthouse” of the world, Jesus, invades the
hearts of the homeless, poor and sick, He
ignites a fire within that changes people for eternity. That’s why at the Light House
Mission, Jesus is our beacon. He is our source of eternal light…and his power is seen
manifested every day in the lives of those we serve.
We anticipate an even greater year of ministry in 2010
As you can imagine, 2009 was a challenging year for us. In many ways, we had
to do more with less. But our doors never closed. We continued to feed, clothe and
provide warm shelter to the needy. But we could not have made it without your
faithful, loyal support. Because of your godly concern, more than 500 men and
women came to faith in Jesus Christ last year. A loving Lord became their lighthouse
in a darkened world. The good news is He still shines brightly as we anticipate an
even greater year of ministry in 2010.
Thank you helping us keep our own lighthouse burning brightly. God bless you
and your family at this Easter season as you celebrate the power and glory of a risen
Lord. And when you can make the time, come pay us a visit. Stop by our own light
house, pause for a moment, and then give thanks to God for the privilege you have
to serve the poor in Jesus’ name.
Your servant,
Rev. Tim Fagg, CEO

Pat Kelley, a major league outfielder in the ’70s was a committed Christian. One day Pat said to his manager Earl Weaver, “Aren’t you glad I walk with the Lord, Earl?” Earl replied, “Pat, let me
tell you. I’d rather you walk with the bases loaded.” Perspective. It’s all about one’s point of view. It’s what’s important to the individual that makes the difference. One person’s commitment may not be the same as another’s — and that’s what we often see at the Light House Mission. Not all our guests understand what awaits them when they enter our doors. Many come for a hot meal and a warm bed. And that’s a good start. But as important as it is to meet a person’s physical needs, we would be remiss if we did not concern ourselves with their walk with the Lord.
My name is Wesley. When I first saw the lighthouse outside the Mission I knew
I was coming to a place where, within these walls, I would find hope and light for my dark, oppressive world. I soon learned the Light House Mission really is like that lighthouse outside. The light never goes out here. The Mission’s doors are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. If there was one person who needed God’s light it was me. I’ve been locked up for much of my life — almost 20 years. That was 20 years of darkness and despair. After my most recent release from prison, I still went back to running the streets — something I don’t recommend. When you’re on the streets and homeless you have to keep on your guard day and night. You sleep with one eye open. If you have anything of value, you probably won’t have it long. Perhaps you can see why the Mission is a godsend for me. Here I find structure. I have a bed, good
You are the lifeblood of the Light House Mission The good news is that your prayers, influence and financial support provide us with the opportunity to minister to the whole person — body, soul and spirit. It’s not headline news that 2009 was a tough year for all of us. But because you stood by us during those difficult months, we made it. And because the Mission made it, so did hundreds of men and women who otherwise might have just been walking the bases instead of walking with the Lord. food and people who care about me both physically and spiritually. I once had a relationship with Jesus but it went by the wayside. Now I’m returning to the light of God.
Your donations keep the light in the lighthouse burning brightly I also appreciate how the Mission is helping me with my mental issues. I’m a paranoid schizophrenic and I need constant medication. Where else would I find such caring and compassion? I was once homeless…now I have a home and a family. I was once hungry. Now I have food. I don’t have any high goals or objectives in life. I just want to be in a quiet place where I keep my life together. As I work the front desk I also feel I can be of service to others, who like me, are also looking for the light. I’m grateful to you who donate to the Mission. Thank you for your help.

Do you shop online, pay bills online or just search for
information on the Internet? Most of you do something on your computers every day. While you are doing these daily routines, why not help the Mission raise money by using GoodSearch and selecting us as your non-profit of choice? Then each time you use the Internet, the Mission earns about a penny. The potential of this simple act is huge. If just 200 people performed two searches a day, we could earn almost $1500 in a year — and most people do more than two every day. So when you go on the computer, use GoodSearch.com and you will be helping the Mission at the same time.

YES, Rev. Tim, I want to show my compassion to those who need hope and healing.
The challenges were great over the holiday season, but the wonderful, generous supporters
of the Light House Mission came through to bless the needy of our community. Even with the hard times, so many gave of their money and time that all the needs were met in abundance. A record breaking number of families requested Thanksgiving baskets and all 1550 were provided through your donations of money, food and time. In addition, we served over 400 hot meals on Thanksgiving Day and everyone enjoyed the day with all the traditional food. At Christmas time, there were 17 children staying at the Mission
and every one received toys, new clothes and new shoes for Christmas. We could not have done this without your generous donations. There were also volunteers for signing up families for Thanksgiving baskets, serving meals on Thanksgiving
and Christmas Day, bringing in toys and clothing, and helping in the office. You will never know how much we appreciate you giving us some of your valuable time.
Words can’t express all you mean to us, so we will simply say, Thank you and may God bless you for all you do for the hungry and needy of our community.
Thank you for your support of Light House Mission.
My Easter Gift
As in the past, the Alan Shawn Feinstein Foundation is providing
a million dollars to be shared nationwide by agencies that feed the hungry. The Light House Mission is one of those agencies that are part of this great challenge. How much we get depends on you. The amount of donations we receive during the months of March and April will determine the percentage of the million dollars we will receive. Large or small, every dollar amount is counted, including food items at $1 per can or $1 per pound. Help us get a bigger check to feed the growing numbers of hungry people in our community by making a donation in March and April.
