2.0 INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT/BACKGROUND INFORMATION 2.1 Identification of Project and Project Proponent The proposed project area is found to have good deposits of Mosaic Chips. It is used in infrastructure development. 2.2 Brief Information about the Project The mining lease area of 1.00 Ha.is located in Non-forest, Government land. Open cast mining is followed and it has been proposed to produce approximately 30,523.50
Tons /annum of Mosaic Chips. The nearest habitation is Tangeda Village located at a distance of 0.34 Km due SSE of Quarry Lease. 2.3 Need for the Project and Its Importance to the Country or Region The demand for Mosaic Chips has increased due to rapid industrialization and growth in infrastructure. So the number of Mosaic Chips producing quarries is increasing in India. Due to bifurcation of State, there is a huge demand for Mosaic Chips. As per EIA notification 2006 project proponent is submitting the proposal to get Environment Clearance for QL area of 1.00 Ha. from District Level Environmental Appraisal Committee/District level Impact Assessment Authority of Guntur constituted by MOEF, GOI for the purpose of operating the quarry lease for which Notification is issued. 2.4 Demands-Supply Gap There is huge demand since the material is used extensively in building construction infrastructure development. This project will help in reducing the Demand-Supply gap in the area. 2.5 Domestic/ Export Markets The material is used in the domestic market and in there is no scope for exporting the material. 2.6 Employment Generation Proposed mining is semi-mechanized method and this project operation will provide livelihood to the 25 workers. It will provide employment to the people residing in vicinity.

3.5.2 Local Geology
Narji Limestone formation of Kurnool group exposed in this area is well bedded, gray to white in colour and of flaggy to massive in nature. The trend of lime beds varying considerably in this area due to structural disturbance. Fine laminae of argillaceous and silt found in limestone of this area. There are two types of limestone seen in the area 1) Siliceous Limestone 2) Argillaceous Limestone In this area siliceous limestone occupy in Huge Quantity. Mostly composed of calcite with minor constituents of quartz, sericite, pyrite, anatase and goethite minerals. Structurally, Palnadu limestone hosts number of faults in different direction mainly of NNW- ESE, ENE - WSW, NNE - SSW trends. Vertical joints in limestone are trending in N - S, N 20° E - S 20° W, N 60° - 80° W - S 60° - 80° E, out of these joints some are open and some are filled with calcite and quartz veins. Siliceous, flaggy limestones are hard, compact and massive which are being mined for Mosaic Chips and Lime powder.
3.5.3 Exploration a) Quarry opening: Benches of each 3m height will be excavated with bench width of 1.5m. The presence of ore is proved up to 6m above ground level b) Core Bore holes : core bore hole drilling is not required. One DTH bore hole is sufficient under general exploration to ascertain the depth persistence of the deposit 3.5.4 Reserves Reserves of Mosaic Chips are estimated by Cross Sectional Area method. One cross section was drawn in the lease area and the summary of reserves are given in the below table:

The Mosaic Chips in the quarry lease area is exposed on the surface with sheet. Hence.it is proposed to quarry the sheet by open cast. Manual method.by developing the benches of 3 M height and 1.5 M bench width with shallow drilling and blasting. The development of benches in the sheet rock will be maintained @ 60° safety slopes Drilling Drill holes of 1.5 – 3.0 m depth will be drilled in a staggered pattern at 6 m. interval:
i) Drill hole diameter : 32 mm up to 1.5 – 3.0 m long ii) Depth and inclination of drill
hole : Generally drilled vertically in an
alignment iii) Explosive type : Detonator Fuse/Anfo with
detonators It is proposed to produce 1,09,977.75 MT of Mosaic Chips during next five years plan period with an average annual production of 21995.55 M Tons from an area of 16293.00 M2. Benches of 3 M height and 1.5 M Width will be developed during the plan period in depth of previous year workings successively.
a) Removal / Excavation of O.B. and other Quarry Waste:
10 % of Waste is generated in Mosaic Chips quarry.
