Alan Driscoll, email. A: By all means take it up with Holden. If that’s the cause of your rattle it should be fixed under warranty. Q: I have a problem with the radio reception in my new Hyundai Elantra. I have terrible reception when listening to the local radio; I’ve even had a prob- lem listening to 2GB in a metro area. The problem is so annoying that I asked for it to be checked when I put it in for a service. They said they couldn’t hear the problem, but they were lo- cated just across the road from where the radio is broadcast. They also said that they didn’t think there was anything I could do about it since the aerial is in the glass. Dissatisfied, I contacted Hyundai iCare, to which I have had no re- ply in the last 3 months. Do you have any suggestions? Tracey, email. A: Phone Hyundai and ex- plain your problem to one of the customer assistance peo- ple. Radio reception does seem to be a problem with Hyundais, we have had quite a few owners reporting poor reception. To fix it I would re- commend taking it to a radio specialist and perhaps have a new antenna fitted. Q: You might recall I con- tacted you about my 2012 Ford Focus and the prob- lems I was having with the DSG automatic gearbox. Well, I took my complaints to Consumer Protection and they agreed with my concerns. Now Ford has authorised the replace- ment of my car with a new diesel model, which I am told has a new clutch. It took 17 weeks to resolve the issue, but I am happy with the outcome. Lee-Ann Woods, email. A: It’s good to hear that you have been able to come to a satisfactory resolution with Ford over the issue, and that the consumer protection sys- tem works. Q: On a trip to Queens- land in October 2011 I no- ticed a knocking noise while driving my 2011 SY Ford Territory uphill un- der load. I reported this at the 15,000km service, but the dealer was unable to detect any problems. Be- fore the next service the engine developed a pinging noise under light throttle at low speed, and the dealer suggested I use 95-octane fuel instead of the recommended 91. I have now been using 95-octane fuel since the 30,000km service with no noticeable change. The dealer also suggested using an additive to remove car- bon build-up on the pistons as this could be a cause, but I doubt that carbon could build up in such a short time on a new vehicle to cause this problem. I asked the dealer if he could check the crank angle sensor, but he did not agree that it was a possible cause. I am con- cerned that engine damage could have occurred. Hope you may be able to help. Neil W. Deed, email. A: It sounds like it might be a sensor and checking the crank angle sensor was sen- sible. I would also check the knock sensor, which is there to detect detonation and re- tard the ignition enough to prevent it from happening. 1049032v2 TOYOTA ACCESS A SMARTER WAY TO BUY T T T T T T T T TO O O O O O O O OY Y Y Y Y Y Y Y YO O O O O O O O OT T T T T T T T TA A A A A A A A A toyota.com.au TEST DRIVE COROLLA HATCH AND ALL-NEW RAV4 TODAY ALL-NEW RAV4 Now available in gutsy Turbo Diesel COROLLA HATCH Bolder, sportier and more fun than ever before.
