October 2010 Overview o Southern Peru Division The development o the Antapaccay satellite deposit will convert the existing Tintaya operation into a long lie, low cost asset and increase its production by 60%. The combined development o the Antapaccay and Las Bambas Projects will transorm Xstrata Copper’ s assets in Southern Peru into a world class operating division. A total capital investment o US$5.7 billion will be made to develop the Antapaccay and Las Bambas Projects, resulting in a ve-old increase in Xstrata Copper’ s production in the region to over 500,000 tonnes o ne copper per annum rom the end o 2014. Xstrata Copper holds Mineral Resources in the region o over 2 billion tonnes at an average grade o 0.81% copper , including the early stage, hi gh grade Coroccohuayco Project, located 10 kilometres rom Tintaya. Xstrata Copper’ s innovative ‘standard concentrator’ design concept will be applied at both Las Bambas and Antapaccay resulting in reduced capex, operational costs and long-lead delivery times. Copper concentrates rom Las Bambas will be pumped through a 215 kilometre pipeline to a molybdenum and lter plant at Tintaya-Antapaccay and then transported by railroad to Matarani Port. Las Bambas will be one o the tw o largest copper greeneld projects to be commissioned globally during the next ve years. The development o the world class, long lie and low cost Las Bambas and Antapaccay Projects will make a signicant contribution to the transormation o Xstrata Copper’s overall cost and production prole during the next our years. Located 150 kilometres apart, the Las Bambas and Antapaccay Projects will beneft rom important synergies that will reduce capital and operating costs in the orm o transport and port inrastructure and logistics; standardized plant design, construction and operation; and support unctions.
