INTRODUCING FACULTYLinda KaufmanEastern US Field Organizer, 100,000 Homes Campaign
Linda has worked in homeless services in DC since the mid-1980s, most recently leading Pathways to Housing DC. In addition to her work to end homelessness in DC, she is also involved in other issues of social justice in the City. She was deeply involved in the District’s Housing First initiative: overseeing street outreach, administering the Vulnerability Index, and providing one Permanent Supportive Housing team at Pathways for 150 tenants.

As project manager, Kat works closely with the team on operations and communications. She has been with Common Ground for five years but came to the Campaign team most recently from Mali, where she worked for a community health organization. When the 100,000th person is housed, Kat has agreed to let the 100,000 Homes team control her Facebook profile for one month.

Our Roots…• Grew out of Common Ground’s Street to Home• 87% reduction in street homelessness in 3 years
in Times Square. Now only 1 person left! • Starting working with communities nationally to
implement the Vulnerability Index• 20 vanguard communities and national partners
came together to launch 100,000 Homes Campaign at NAEH in July 2010.

Vulnerability Index• Based on research done by Dr. Jim O’Connell and Dr.
Stephen Hwang out of Boston’s Health Care for the Homeless
• More than 6 months homeless AND at least one of the following:– End Stage Renal Disease – History of Cold Weather Injuries– HIV+/AIDS– Liver Disease or Cirrhosis– Over 60 years old – Three of more emergency room visits in prior three months– Three or more ER or hospitalizations in prior year– Tri-morbid (mentally ill+ abusing substances+ medical problem)

Training Opportunites • Quarterly “Registry Week Boot Camps” (alternating between east
and west coasts) • 3 day intensive training concurrent with an actual Registry week • Toolkit with everything you will need to conduct a Registry week
in your community • Highly recommended if you want to conduct a Registry week• Send 2 or more people from your local campaign team• $500/person • Upcoming Boot Camps in Los Angeles (April 29 – May 2),
Philadelphia (May 13 - 16), Las Vegas (fall)
Training Opportunites • Quarterly “Housing Placement Boot Camps” (alternating
between east and west coasts) • 2 day intensive training for local campaign teams that have
made some housing placements already • Quality Improvement expert will guide campaign teams
through process to get your housing placement down to less than 10 steps that take less than 10 days from streets into housing
• Piloting this summer with selected communities • Price TBD
