(KEV) was a major project. In early 2003 SAMES was selected by KEV to manage the entire development process of a new 100% low-floor tram. Starting with the basic vehicle concept, vehicle dynamics, bogie design and production, articulation design and production and final documentation, SAMES was responsible for a main part of the new vehicle CROTRAM (KEV & TZV Gredelj). Starting from scratch the tram was designed to needs of the customer. Basic idea was to use the articulated vehicle concept in combination with a multi-articulated version. This ensures large capacity while there is high comfort. In cooperation with KEV engineers, SAMES creates a basic vehcile concept. The concept has been validated by numerical simulation (Multi- Body System) according to UIC 518 and UIC 513. An additional challenge was to fulfil gauging of Zagreb infrastructure while there are running also Tatra and GT6 vehicles. The bogie proposed by SAMES; a real 100% low-floor version with no steps and ramps, based on a lateral traction concept with lateral shaft and supporting gearboxes with integrated axleboxes, was a combination of sophisticated LRV-solutions and new ideas. SAMES integrated a hydro-pneumatic (HP) secondary and primary suspension with auto- height leveling. This ensures highest passenger comfort and constant entrance height independent to passenger loading status. The bogie design was done to all international and local requirements. E.g. the week. Subsequent to a pre-series of more than 120 bogies, SAMES did the know-how transfer of production to KEV in Zagreb. Result Along with the concept, design and production works, SAMES enabled the customer to start the production with an verified process and to run the 1st vehicle on Zagreb streets already 12 months after project start. bogie frame (welded steel and casted node design) was calculated by FEM to EN 13749 standard and loadcases influenced by local infrastructure. Documentation & Production SAMES prepared all documents necessary for the local production of bogies in Feucht / Germany. The complete bogie production and delivery has been done from Feucht factory.
