Teurlings – when results count
This has been the case since the very beginning in 1923. The goal has always been: better results for people who keep and breed rabbits & rodents, poultry, ornamental
water birds, ornamental fowl, birds and pigeons. Teurlings works closely with breeders, fanciers, nutritionists and vets both at home and abroad with a view
to developing successful products for maximum results. Please read on to discover how Teurlings feed for hobby animals can help you achieve this.

Chickens are social animals and easy to keep as pets. Even in
the back garden. They bring the place to life, are easy to look
after and also lay eggs. Children and chickens get on well
together, and a weekend away is not an issue either – chickens
can easily be left a day at home on their own. A chicken coop
with a height of no more than one metre and a surface area of
up to two m² does not require a licence, and it does not cost
much to keep a number of chickens in the garden.
A few useful tips to get you off to a good start
Start with a small flock of three chickens. This gives the
chickens some companionship and makes them feel safe
when scratching around in the garden or run. Preferably start
with a small brood of hens (female chickens); a cock crows
and tends to be less well accepted in a residential area.
What do you need?
How much space do you need to keep chickens?
The size of the coop and run depends greatly on the quantity
and breed of the chickens. The larger, the better for the
chickens, of course! The space required is given in the table
below.
Chicken feed
A chicken’s natural diet consists of cereals, seeds, berries,
plants and various small creatures, such as worms, slugs and
snails. When chickens are allowed to scratch around freely,
they will eat anything and will decide for themselves what
they need. For chickens that are kept in a coop, it is essential
that they are fed a varied diet to keep them in peak condition.
Given that these chickens cannot decide for themselves what
to eat it is necessary to supply sensible, well-balanced feed
of good quality.
• Give your chickens a complete chicken feed
• Supplement this with a mix of cereals to satisfy their foraging needs
• Provide chicken grit (source of calcium) & stomach stones (to aid digestion)
• Supply fresh drinking water daily
• Add health supplements to the drinking water to boost general resistance and promote healthy intestinal flora
• Feed the occasional snack (e.g. a mealworm)
Do you want to let your chickens have a good scratch
around in the garden? You can. Just scatter a handful
of poultry mix or mixed corn in the garden to keep
the chickens occupied as they forage for their
meal.
When given enough attention, your little chickens will become tame
HOW MUCH SPACE DO YOU NEED?

Starter feed for ornamental fowl/turkey is a rearing feed with a high
protein content in which special attention has been paid to the com-
position of amino acids. Starter feed for ornamental fowl/turkey is
recommended for breeds that are difficult to rear and for birds with
special nutritional needs. Starter feed for ornamental fowl/turkey pro-
motes quick growth and feather development in chicks.
Thereafter, switch gradually over to 100% Ornamental fowl pellets
no. 2. A mixture of flour and pellets increases the chances of feed
spillage. We therefore recommend feeding several times a day,
leaving the feeding trough empty or, in any case, not pouring more
than one daily amount of feed into good troughs with a high rim.

When results count
QUALITY IS PARAMOUNT
From the arrival of the ingredients to the moment the products leave
the factory, everything is subjected to stringent quality checks. Every
step of the production chain is supervised closely, from the balance
between the ingredients, fibres and vitamins to the careful packaging
process. At Teurlings, we monitor market trends so that we can
respond quickly and flexibly to the changing and specific wishes of
our customers. And thanks to an extensive product range, Teurlings
has a variety of options for everybody who loves hobby animals.
CHICKENS
Teurlings chicken feed for laying hens and breeding stock. Correct
use of these feeds will promote healthy growth and, later in life,
good egg production. Each phase of a chicken’s life has different
nutritional needs; there are periods of rearing, growth, stock and
production. That is why it is very important to have a good feeding
roster, adjusted according to type and age.

The feed intake depends greatly on the breed, age, season and
laying percentage. As a general guideline, the following table can be
used to monitor the feed intake:
DAILY FEED INTAKE
Body mass Breed Laying percentage
50% 70% 90%
ca 1,500 gram Slight 80 gram 90 gram 100 gram
ca 2,000 gram Medium 90 gram 100 gram 115 gram

The composition of Ornamental water bird feed demands a lot of
knowledge and experience. Ornamental water birds have specific
nutritional needs that can differ substantially from one breed to
the next. That is why Teurlings has put together a special range of
Ornamental water bird feeds that takes into account the feed roster
and your own personal experience to achieve the best possible
results: well-developed, active and healthy birds.
Birds fed with Teurlings Ornamental water bird feed will be able to
produce a maximum yield of high-quality eggs. Ornamental water
birds include ducks, geese and swans, both wild and domesticated.
