Coastal Cleanu' #$% last Se'tem!er %() #$% at Barangay *a'da' and +uro with the theme,-Ta.ing action for trash free seas/0 Many locations all o"er the world 'artici'ated in the cleanu'initiati"es which started since %(1$s0 The clu! !ecame the lead organi2ation recogni2ed !y3cean Conser"ancy International to do the cleanu' in 4ega2'i City Boule"ard05e cannot deny the fact that trash has infiltrated all reaches of our oceans) causinginnumera!le ad"erse im'acts on ocean life and coastal communities0 According to the 3ceanConser"ancy International) marine de!ris is one of the world6s 'er"asi"e 'ro!lem whichim'arts a "ariety of im'acts, loss of water 7uality) destruction of marine ha!itats) entanglementor ingestion of marine de!ris !y !irds) turtles and mammals) loss of re"enue in tourism) 'oseshealth ris.s and im'airs shi's and !oats0 It is also one of the causes of major flooding in themetro'olis during hea"y rains for it clogs the drainage system and im'edes the flow in ri"ers

and waterways0 These 'ro!lems can !e categorically ta.en as ham'ering ecological !alance)economic 'rogress and human li"ing conditions0The clu! is committed with its ad"ocacy on En"ironmental Conser"ation 'articularly on the'romotion of 3cean Health0 Thus) in su''ort of this cause) the clu! s'earheaded such coastalcleanu' initiati"e0 The o!jecti"es of the acti"ity include the engagement of 'eo'le to remo"etrash and de!ris from !eaches and waterways) to identify the wastes in the cleanu' area andto raise awareness on the e8tent of the marine de!ris 'ro!lem0 The cleanu' was 'artici'ated!y #$ Science major students of B College of Education) the +hili''ine Coast 9uard Bicol)the Barangay Councils of *a'da' and +uro) and the *e'artment of En"ironment and Natural:esources 4ocal 3ffice0 The collecti"e effort of "arious sectors deli"ered a strong message tothe communities near the coastal area to ta.e care of the oceans and draw unwa"ering

concern for the im'ro"ement of the condition of the coasts for the !enefit of all0The acti"ity started at ;,$$ in the morning with the registration of the 'artici'ants atEm!arcadero de 4ega2'i conse7uently ha"ing orientations 'er grou'0 At ;,<$ am) theyaltogether marched to the cleanu' site for the start of the cleanu'0 The grou' leadersaccom'lished the =olunteer 3cean Trash *ata >orms after the cleanu'0 They su!mitted theresults to the secretariat for the consolidation of the data for the 4ega2'i City Cleanu' Site0
