Analysing Camera WorkCinematography-everything the camera does!High/Low Angle ShotRefers to position of camera, not subject.

Use can suggest power/social status.

TiltVertical movement of camera (up/down)

Emphasises height or beauty of the subject.

PanHorizontal movement of camera (left/right).

Emphasises characters and action as part of the setting/mise-en-scene

TrackingCamera moves at the same pace as the subject. Often achieved using steadicam.

Increases pace in action sequences.Composition and FramingThree things to look out for:What is in foreground of shotWhat is in background of shotWhat is in/out of focus.All these things draw attention to subjects

How many types of editing are there?Editing- the way and order shots are put together in post production.

For fast pace!!

FadeOne image slowly superimposes over another.

Suggests passing of time, or causal connection between two events.

DissolveOne image slowly superimposes over another, usually with a pixelated effect.

Suggests flashback, dream sequence, could be indicating an unreliable narrator (fantasist).

Fade to BlackFinal image darkens until the screen is black.

Suggests endings/ finality/ death of a character?

PanSteady movement of camera in a horizontal motion.

Emphasises characters and action as part of the setting/mise-en-scene

Cross cuttingUsed to show 2 scenes at same time (2 people on the phone).

Suggests a connection between two situations.

Slow motionSlowing a the pace of frames.

In order to focus in on one event or element.

Eye-line matchCuts from one character to what that character has been looking at.

Could indicate a desire or motivation in a character.

FlashbackA scene or moment in a film in which the audience is shown an event that happened earlier in the films narrative.

Suggests passing of time, or causal connection between two events.

Match CutTwo different subjects of the same shape are juxtaposed from one into the other.

Again suggests a connection between these objects/characters.
