EDITORIALFirstly this month I’d like to putout an appeal for a volunteer ortwo to take on the regulardelivery of this magazine to theHeronsbrook Estate (Cheney andSt Benedicts). I’d also like to askfor volunteers to be on a standbylist should we need someone tocover for illness or holidays.Very unusually I am covering for3 rounds as well as my own thismonth and I have another being
covered by a volunteer, so morestandby help would really make adifference at times. Think about itand if you feel you could maybespare us the odd hour or so, youmay only be called upon once ayear, we’d appreciate hearingfrom you.
Crime in the village seems tohave increased dramatically justrecently with sheds, garages andhomes being broken into, even inthe middle of the day! So pleasebe extra vigilant and keep doors
and windows locked especially ifyou are not at home, don’t give anopen invite to these criminals.
The outcome of this, however, isthat more residents are becominginterested in NeighbourhoodWatch, which has been prettydormant in the village of late, soif you have an email facility athome and you would like tobecome involved in keeping aneye on your street then pleasecontact Tony, Village NHWSecretary, by emailing him at:
[email protected] .He’ll be pleased to hear fromyou.
Seems that some of the youths inthe village just can’t respect otherpeople’s property, not least thatwhich has actually been suppliedfor their enjoyment. We’ve hadnumerous reports of incidents anddamage at the new play area andit has now come to the pointwhere the installation of furtherequipment and amenities for allhave been put on hold. The Parish
Council intend to install CCTV,the cost of which will come out ofmoney put aside to fund the otheramenities that were destined forthat area, and they intend to seekprosecution for any criminaldamage they gather evidence on.
Finally, I’d like to just add areminder to individuals, groupsand those responsible for the hireof premises in the village that weneed your input to the onlinevillage calendar, please don’tforget to add your events and
bookings regularly so as it is keptup to date. We get a lot offeedback from residents whoview it and say what a usefulresource it is, but it’ll only remainso if it gets regularly updated. Soplease if you have something toadd then get it in to us and we’llget it published.

MINSTER PLAYAREA OPENINGThe official opening of the newplay area in Minster took place ona chilly and blustery morning inMay, however despite this therewas a good turnout ofCouncillors, parents and childrento the event.
The ribbon was cut jointly by theParish Council’s newest andyoungest Councillor,
Jack Whybrow and theChairperson of Minster School’sYouth Council, Olivia Rae.
Since the opening the play area isproving very successful howeverdisappointingly it is also now ameeting point for youths duringthe evening attracting anti-socialbehaviour to the site.
The boundary fence has beendamaged by youths doing theirbest to cause damage
to the equipment. Because of the
behaviour of a certain number ofyouths the Parish
Council have agreed to installCCTV to cover the play area sothat any further damage will leadto prosecutions for criminaldamage.
The Parish Council have also puton hold any further improvementsto the skate
park, or installing any otherfacilities including picnic tablesand benches in the area until the
anti-social behaviour issues areresolved and following publicconsultation with residents.
It is a great shame that a minoritygroup are spoiling the area for therest of the
village.
The Parish Council ask thatparents are diligent and reportproblems by phoning 101
to call the police and also try andimpress upon their children,
young and old, how
important it is to look after thisarea as it is there for their benefitand will not be replaced.
Thank you

Anti Social Behaviour in theNew Play Park Area
Minster Matters received anemail from a concerned residentwhich has been edited
somewhat andpublished below.“There were a group of about 10teenagers, boys and girls, absolutely doing their best tobreak al the equipment. Generaly tearing round the placeshouting and every other wordbegan with an ‘F’ and doingtheir best to break the zip wireby forcing it so hard it’ll bebroke soon if not now!
They were swinging sideways onit bashing against the new fence,so that’l be broke soon too. Bothlatches on the gates have beenripped off. There were cigarettepapers, used joints, bottles andgeneral rubbish just dumped atthe swings. They’d either beendrinking, smoking dope or othersubstances and were loud, obnoxious and had a totaldisregard for the other parksusers and the adults there.
I asked them once politely to
please stop their language asthere was little children usingthe play area, one of the boyssaid sorry, but the others justignored me and carried on.There was also an elderlygentleman, a lady and a youngerchap with their children in theretrying to use the swings but theywere all taken up by these awfulkids. I eventually took mydaughter and left.
What a great shame, that onceagain such a great facility (just
like the all-weather pitch) isbeing vandalised and peopleseem to just turn a blind eye forfear of retaliation from theseferal children!”
The original email wasforwarded by MM to the ParishCouncil and the Community
Warden was also informed. ThePolice need to know of suchhappenings.

The quiz held in the RBL in aid ofthe WW1 Memorial on 30 Maywas supported by

Residents of Minster,
As the summer months approach I
know many of you will haveconcerns about
anti-social behaviour in thevillage. I wanted to provide youwith some reassurance that KentPolice will be making everyeffort possible to identify anyunacceptable behaviour in ourcommunities and intervene at theearliest opportunity. Kent Policehave introduced a dedicated Anti-Social Behaviour Car which willbe operating on a daily basisacross the Thanet District with the
primary objective of respondingto any calls received in relation toanti-social behaviour, whilst alsoproviding a visual presence in ourcommunities to act as adeterrence. The officers staffingthe car will also be heavilyemphasising positive engagementwith people they encounter toprevent any anti-social behaviourthat the
officers may envisage happening. However, I must emphasise thatthis resource is tasked by demand
so please report any anti-socialbehaviour that you areexperiencing via 101; furthermoreyou can also notify PCSO CraigRaisbeck or myself of anyprevious incidents or on-goingissues so that we can requestpatrols pay passing attention tothe area when we are notavailable.
Lastly I would like to provide youall with an update on the schoolparking
measures being discussed by KentPolice, Minster Primary Schooland Minster Parish
Council. I am continuing to liaisewith all of these agencies on aregular basis and we are allworking hard to identify how wecan reduce the traffic flow andencourage different modes oftransport into the village, toalleviate the parking problem. AsI am sure you will all appreciatethis is a lengthy process thatinvolves a considerable amount
of discussion and I am extremelythankful for your continuedpatience. I want to ensure wededicate as much time as neededto these ideas rather than rushingthem and not getting the
maximum benefit from theseinitiatives. We have developed ascheme called the MinsterMountain Challenge which wewill hopefully be launching on the30 June. I will be
attending the school on the 25
June to provide an Assemblyabout the idea and
information will be disseminatedto parents about the scheme.
As always I am more than happyto discuss policing matters in thevillage, so please
contact me and we can discussanything you wish to raise.
Kind regards, PCSO StevenEngland.

For the attention of Minstermotorists – parking problems.
As most of you are aware, wehave a problem in Monkton Roadbetween the car park
and The Saddler public house, with buses and other largevehicles that serve our village.
These vehicles have troublegetting through. This week alone Ihave had three bus drivers and thewarden knock on my door askingif I know the owners of the cars
that have
double parked. This is worse atschool times. On Thursday lastweek a BMW was badly
damaged after someone parkedopposite him. The last thing wewant is double yellow
lines as this would kill the shops.
So come on, Minster, please havesome consideration for others, including the
residents of Monkton Road.
Name and address supplied.
STRAWBERRY TEA
I would like to thank all whocame along to support us at theStrawberry Tea.

After the long, wet winter thedonkeys are happy to be out intheir fields again.
Although the donkeys have cosybarns and plenty of straw duringthe winter months,

Dear Editor, Great WarMemorial Project Quiz Night 30May.
Over 100 people turned up on the
night and we raised thespectacular sum of £898
at the quiz and were given another£100 as an extra donationafterwards! This
incredible amount shows howclose this subject is to the heartsof the people in our
villages, and I would like to thankeveryone who came along andgave so generously.
The evening's success is largely
due to Carol Sayer - catererextraordinaire and whoseorganisational skills are worthyof a G8 Summit, Gary from theHair of the
Dog who absolutely made theevening with his stand up comedyquiz master routine (my
sides still ache from laughing somuch), Steve and Sam Philpot forpromoting the quiz and gatheringso many people and raffle prizesto make the evening the success it
was, and the wonderful staff at theRoyal British Legion whotirelessly looked after everyoneall evening.
Thank you also to The Hair of theDog, The Corner House, TheSaddlers, The New
Inn, Archie's, Belle's Beauty, TheRoyal British Legion and theother Minster businesses andorganisations who donated raffleprizes for the evening - I am sorryif I have left anybody out. It was
lovely seeing so many from ourlittle community coming togetherto support this worthy cause.
Each of the men we are trying tocommemorate has a story to tell, and our
community's support means thatneither the men nor their storieswill now be forgotten.
I really am grateful. We will keepyou updated with our next fundraising events and
of course with the progressregarding the memorial. JulieSeales

Been feeling a bit high lately asit’s been pretty heady with paintfumes in our place for the pastcouple of weeks, Mum’s been
busy tarting up one of thosenarrowboat thingys that we tendto holiday on, luckily though thisis only a small model and not thereal deal. Ah well it could havebeen worse.
AMBER’S ADVICE
I want to convey how beautiful itis to close your eyes and dream. And then to open
them and make that dream areality.

As SummerArrivesWhen the Cuckoo calls, we knowspring is here
Can you imagine the fear in theirhearts, when this bird’s call near
By them, I mean the little birdsindigenous to our land, andcountryside
I bet they wish that they could
hide
However, it is the same everyyear
The Cuckoo must put in the littlebirds hearts, much fear
So every time we think toourselves, ‘how nice’
when the visitor’s call rings inour ears
Spare a thought for the little birds,I am sure to you, I have made
myself clear
