Rationale
Whatisaone-to-oneprogram?
One-to-one (1to1) learningprovideseverystudentandteacheraccesstohisorherownmobile
deviceinawirelessenvironmentallowingstudentstolearnattheirownpaceandabilitylevels. One-
to-oneinitiativeshavegainedmomentumworldwide,andareincreasinglyseenasakeyto
transformingeducationandbetterpreparingstudentstosucceedinaglobalworld.
Intheone-to-oneprogram,students' accesstoapersonalmobiledevice (suchasaniPad) andthe
Internetenablesthemtobeself-directedandreceivehighlypersonalisedinstruction. Teacherscan
createpersonalisedlearningopportunitiesforeachchild,addressinghisorheruniqueneeds.
Studentsusetheirpersonaldevicestoresearch,completehomeworkandacademiccoursework,
access
reading
material,
manage
notes
and
calendars,
solve
problems,
collaborate
on
team
projects
andcommunicateviaemail. Atthesametime,theygainvaluable21stcenturyskillsthatwillbe
beneficialthroughouttheirlivesandcareers.
EducationOpportunitiesProvidedbyaone-to-oneprogram

OverviewofParentandStudentResponsibilities
Studentsandparentswillberesponsiblefortheoverallcareofthe
iPadandmanagementofapps. Parentswillhavefullmanagement
rightstotheiPadandwillberesponsibleforongoingupdates
(operatingsystemandapps),includingrestoringifrequired. Students
willbetrainedtobecompetentusersandmaintainersoftheiriPad.
Parentswillsupplyaprotectivecover. Studentswillberequiredto
keeptheiPadwithintheprotectivecoveratalltimes. Intheinterestof
studentsafety,iPadsarenottobeusedinapublicplaceoutsidethe
school,suchasonabusjourneyhome. TheiPadistobetreatedwith
duecareandstoredintraysprovidedintheclassroomwhennotin
use. Thedevicewillbeutilisedbystudentsundersupervisionduring
learningandteachingopportunitiesatschool. Schoolstafwill
implementregularinspectionsofthedevice. Studentswillbesubject
tothetermsoftheAcceptableUseofTechnologyPolicyifthereisany
evidenceofmisuseorinappropriateusage.
ShouldastudentsiPadeverrequirerepairorreplacement,theschoolwillprovideareplacement
hotswapiPadinordertomaintainthestudentsaccesstoongoinglearningopportunities. Parents
willberequiredtosignaseparateagreementfortheloanofareplacementiPadfromtheschool.
Studentswillbeshownvariouswaystobackuptheirdocumentsanddata. Allstudentswillbe
responsibleforthemaintenanceofregulardatabackupviathevariousmeansrecommendedbythe
school.
Asuppliedlistofrequiredappswillbedistributedforstudentandparentinstallation. Studentswill
alsobeabletointegratetheuseofahomewirelessnetwork,homeprintersandotherperipheral
devicesatparentsdiscretion.
StudentsmustabidebytheInformation & CommunicationsTechnologyResourcesStudent
Agreement (seeSection3). Failuretoabidebythisagreementcouldresultindisciplinaryaction.
TheiPadwillberechargedathomeeachnightreadyforthenextschoolday. TheiPadcanbe
connectedtothestudentshomeinternetattheparentsdiscretion. Parentsarestrongly
encouragedtosuperviseuseofiPadathome,particularlyduringstudentsinternetuse.

Information & CommunicationTechnology (ICT) hasbecomeof
criticalimportancetoschoolsinfacilitatingandsupporting
learning,teachingandotheradministrativeactivitiesforteachers,
students,parentsandadministrators.
StCatherinesPrimarySchoolWisharthasestablishedsignificant
computingandcommunicationsresourcestosupportthese
activities. Theseresourcesincludeallnetworkserviceslicensedby

Wishart.
StCatherinesPrimarySchoolWishartisboundbylegislationand
goodstewardshipofresourcestoensuretheappropriateuseofits
ICTs. IncreasedlegislationrelatingtoICTisrequiringall
organisationstoreviewtheirinternalpoliciesandproceduresto
ensurecompliance.
ICTresourcesaresuppliedinlinewiththefollowingprinciples:
AccesstoICTisprovidedsubjecttoneedandavailabilityof
resources;
Privacy,confidentialityandrespectofthepersonalrights

Theimportanceofthecost-ecientuseofICTsis

studentsusetheschoolnetworksafelyandresponsibly.
TheSchooliscommittedto:
a. Providinglearningexperiencesthatmaximisethebenefitoftheschoolnetworkandthe
Internettoenrichandenhanceclassroompractices;
b. Developinginstudentstherelevantcompetenciestobeefectiveandcriticalusersof
informationandtherelevantskillstousetheInternetandotherinformationcommunications
technologiessafelyandresponsibly;
c. Minimisingthepotentialforinappropriateuseofthenetworkthroughtheinstallationof
appropriatefilteringandmonitoringsystems;and
d. Teachingstudentsthecorrectuseofequipmentandprinciplesofdigitalcitizenship
includingonlinecommunicationsetiquette,respectingtheprivacyofotherstudentswork,
safeemailpracticesandtheneedtokeepinformationprivate.
WeprovidestudentswithalimitedrighttoaccesstheInternetwhileatschool,duringschoolhours,
inaccordancewiththisagreement,whilethestudentisenrolledatStCatherinesPrimarySchool.
PurposeofAccess
Monitoreduseofschoolcomputers,accesstotheschoolnetworkandtheInternetisprovidedto
studentsforeducationalandresearchpurposesthatareconsistentwiththeschoolscurriculum
objectives. Useoftheschoolscomputers,networkandInternetaccessisaprivilege.
PolicyUpdate
Thispolicywillbeupdatedasnecessary. Allattemptswillbemadetoadheretotheabovepolicy,but
particularcircumstances (suchastechnologicaladvancements) mayrequirethePrincipaltodepart
fromthestatedpolicy.

Conditions of Use of ICT Resources at
St Catherines Primary School Wishart
i. ByaccessingandusingICTresourcesatStCatherinesPrimarySchoolWishart,includingthe
schoolswirelessnetwork,youareagreeingtoabidebythisConditionsofUseofICT
Resourcesstatement.ii. TheseconditionsapplytoallStCatherinesPrimarySchoolWishartICTresources,regardless
ofhowtheyareaccessed. Thisincludesaccessatalltechnologydevices,throughusersown
hardware (forexample,mobiledevices,orothersimilartechnology) whetherwiredor
wireless,orremoteaccessovertheinternetthroughusers' ownresources.
iii. Whilestafandstudents (inparticular,ICTstafengagedbytheschool) maybecalleduponin
thecourseoftheirdutiestoundertakeactivitiesbeyondthosepermittedbythetermsofthis
Agreement,itisexpectedthatanysuchactivitiesundertakenmustbedoneinaccordancewith
thespiritofthisstatement.
Ethical,LegalandResponsibleUseofICTResources
iv. StCatherinesPrimarySchoolWishartrequiresallusersofitsICTresourcestodosoinan
ethical,legalandresponsiblemanner.
v. UsersofStCatherinesPrimarySchoolWishartsICTresourcesmustbeawarethatuseofthese
resourcesissubjecttothefullrangeoflawsthatapplytotheinternet,communicationsandto
theuseofcomputers,andStCatherinesPrimarySchoolWishartpolicies. Suchlawand
principlesincludesusersobligationsinrelationtocopyright,intellectualproperty,breachof
confidence,defamation,privacy,bullying/harassment,vilificationandanti-discrimination
legislation,thecreationofcontractualobligations,andothercivilandcriminallaws.
vi. StCatherinesPrimarySchoolWishartsICTresourcesmustnotbeusedforunauthorised
commercialactivitiesorunauthorisedpersonalgain. ActionsperformedusingStCatherines
PrimarySchoolWishartICTresourcesmustcomplywiththetermsofanylicenceagreedtofor
theuseofsoftwareprogramsandotheronlineresources.
CopyrightandIntellectualPropertyRights
vii. Usersmustnot,throughtheuseofICTresources,copy,download,storeortransmitmaterial
whichinfringescopyrightortheintellectualpropertyrightsofotherswithoutappropriate
approval. Suchmaterialincludesmusicfiles,movies,videosoranyotherformofmedia.

viii. Usersshouldbeawarethatactionsperformedusingcomputerandnetworkresources,
regardlessofanydisclaimersthatmightbemade,ultimatelyreflectonoureducational
institutionandcommunityasawhole. Thisisparticularlyrelevantwhereuserspostorsubmit
materialinawaythatmakesitpubliclyavailableovertheinternet.
SecurityandPrivacy
ix. Usershavearoletoplayinensuringthesecurityandprivacyofinformationtransmittedby
useoftheICTresources. Usersareissuedwithuniqueusernamesandpasswords,which
shouldbekeptstrictlyconfidentialatalltimes.
x. Usersmustprotectsystems,informationandaccountsby:
Choosingasecurepassword (asecurepasswordisonethatisdiculttoguess,for
example,containingacombinationofletterandnumbersandnotsimplyanameordateof
birth)
UsingICTresourcesonlyasauthorised;
Respectingtheprivacyandconfidentialityofinformationthattheymayencounterthrough
accesstotheresources;
Onlydownloading,installingorusingauthorisedsoftware;
Reportinganybreachorprospectivebreachofnetworksecuritytotheappropriateschool
ortechnicalpersonnel;
xi. Unacceptableconductbyuserswhichcouldresultinabreachofsecurityorprivacyincludes:
Disclosingyourusernameandpassworddetailstoanotherperson;
Disclosingotherprivateorconfidentialinformationtounauthorisedpersons;
Gainingunauthorisedaccesstoanysystemsbyanymeans;
UsingStCatherinesPrimarySchoolWishartsICTresourcestoattackorcompromise
anothersystemornetwork;
Downloading,installingorusingunauthorisedappsorotherdigitalmaterial;
Deliberatelyinstallingmaliciousmaterial;
Accessingorinterceptingotherselectroniccommunicationswithoutpermission.
xii. Usersshouldnot,asageneralrule,displaypersonalinformationaboutthemselvesinaway
thatispubliclyavailable. Wheresuchdisclosureismadethroughauthorisedavenues (for

xiii. Usersareremindedthatemailshouldnotbeusedtosendsensitiveandconfidential
information.xiv. Usersmust,however,beawarethattheoperationandmaintenanceofICTsystemsoften
requiresthebackupandcachingofdata,theloggingofactivityandthemonitoringofgeneral
usagepatternsandassuch,completeconfidentialityandprivacycannotbeguaranteed. St
CatherinesPrimarySchoolWishartmayalsoberequiredtoinspectorprovidecopiesof
electroniccommunicationswhererequiredtobylaw,orwheretheinvestigationofpossible
misusesofICTresourcesisrequired.
BreachesoftheseConditionsofUse
xv. AnybreachoftheseConditionsofUsewillbetakenseriouslyandmayresultindisciplinary
action.
xvi. Examplesofpossibleconsequencesrangefromlossorrestrictionofaccesstothedeviceat
school,toformaldisciplinaryactionforbreachofSchoolBehaviourPolicy. Casesofserious,
deliberate,and/orcriminalbreachwillbereferredtoexternalauthoritiesandmayresultin
civilorcriminalproceedings.Parent/GuardianResponsibilities
xvii. Theproperuseofinformationcommunicationstechnologyisthejointresponsibilityof
students,parents/guardiansandschoolstaf. Parentsandguardiansshould,therefore,share
withtheschooltheresponsibilityforsettingandconveyingstandardsforacceptableusewhen
usingelectronicmediaandinformationsources. Werecognisethenecessityofcloseco-
operationbetweenthehomeandschoolinthisareainordertoprovidethebestpossible
educationalopportunitiesforstudents. Itisvitallyimportantthatthevaluesespousedbythe
homeandbytheSchoolareinharmony,andthatparents/guardianssupporttheschoolin
maintainingacceptablestandardsofuse.
xviii. Itistheresponsibilityofparents/guardianstoensurethattheyandtheirchildareawareof
andabidebythepolicies,careguidelinesandresponsibleuseexpectationsoftheschool.
xix. Wherethereismorethanoneparent/guardian,eachparent/guardianacceptsfull
responsibilityforensuringthesepoliciesareadheredto.

This Consent Form must be signed prior to students being granted access to
the internet and other information and communication technology resources at
St. Catherines School.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to review and discuss the contents of theAcceptable Use of Information & Communications Technology Resources Student Agreement (see
following pages) with the student and answer any questions that they may have.
By signing this Consent Form, both parents/guardians and students are agreeing to the terms of access as
set out in theAcceptable Use of Information & Communications Technology Resources Student
Agreement and acknowledge that they will be responsible in the event of any breach and that appropriate
disciplinary steps may result.

1. EducationPurposes
StudentsaretousetheiriPadforeducationalpurposes.
TheiPadmustbeinstalledwithalltherequiredappsforstudentuse. Onreceiptofthecompleted
AccessConsentFormforICTResources,theschoolwillinstallawirelesscertificatetoallowinternet
accessatschool.
Non-requisiteappsordatashouldnotinhibittheuseoftheiPadasalearningtool. Non-requisite
appsordataonanystudentsiPadshouldnotcompromiselearningopportunitiesforanyother
studentattheschool.
TheschoolreservestherighttocarryoutinspectionsofiPadsatanytime.
2. StudentResponsibilities
EachstudentisresponsibleforkeepingtheiriPadsecure.

networkaccessfromstudentiPadsispermitted).
TheschoolwirelesscertificatesarenottoberemovedoralteredasthiscouldafecttheiPadsability

7. Loss,TheftandDamage
Ifthedeviceisstolenfromschoolduringschoolhours,thentheschool,inassociationwithCatholic
SchoolsNetworkInsurancewillorganiseaninsuranceclaim,providedthatthestudenthasmetall
theirsecurityobligationsunderthisagreement. Thisclaimwillnotincludecoverforlossordamage
duetoreasonsotherthantheft.
Itwillbetheresponsibilityoftheparenttoinsureforloss,theftand/ordamageoutsideofschool
hours.
