As the Year of Mercy draws to a close, we can reflect on how our efforts on behalf of LAMB fit into Pope Francis’ vision of helping the marginal-ized. Were you one of the Brother Knights who gave of your time to help collect donations for LAMB? Maybe you’re one of our dedicated Knights who helped several time during the year. Thank you and God bless you

for your acts of charity.

However, there are many of you who were either unable to participate on the scheduled dates or perhaps it slipped your mind to sign up to help. If either of these were your circumstances, we ask that you prayerfully con-sider making a donation to LAMB now. The needs of those whom LAMB supports are greater every year as government funding diminishes. If you can help, please make your check payable to LAMB Foundation and mail it to LAMB Foundation of NC, Inc., 6420 A-1, Suite 312, Charlotte, NC

28277.

Thank you and may God bless all Knights and their families.

One other thought. We will be collecting for LAMB after the weekend masses at St. Matthew on November 12 & 13, both the main and south

campuses. We ask for 15 minutes of your time after mass to help.

Pro-Life Corner Council 10852 Pro-Life Committee - Mission Statement “To reinforce the commitment of the Knights of Columbus to the sanctity of life, by promoting a greater awareness of current Pro-Life issues and encouraging increased participation by the Knights of Council 10852 in local Pro-Life activities.” 2016 40 Days for Life United Campaign During the 2016 40 Days for Life Fall Campaign, which will con-clude on November 6th, Knights and St. Matthew parishioners gave witness to our Catholic belief in the sanctity of Life through prayerful vigil outside the abortion facility at 3220 Latrobe Drive, Charlotte between the hours of 10:00 pm and 2:00 pm on each of the scheduled Wednesdays. You still have one more opportunity to STAND FOR LIFE this Wednesday, November 2nd. The 40 Days for Life United Nationwide Tour is scheduled to stop in Charlotte, NC for a giant rally this Saturday, November 5th, in front of the Abortion Clinic at 3220 Latrobe Drive, Charlotte, NC. I urge you all to come see this campaign for life in action. The 40 Days for life Bus with on board ultrasound and counseling clinic will be at the rally along with some of the National staff members of 40 Days for Life. 12:30pm, November 5th at Abortion Clinic 2016 Baby Bottle Campaign The 2016 Baby Bottle Campaign was launched in August, with more than 1200 bottles distributed. This year all of the bottles were distributed at the first 4 Masses leaving those attending the 12:30 and 5:30 PM Masses asking for more. On October, 1st and 2nd, Respect Life Weekend, we collected 385 bottles. We currently have 625 bottles collected bringing in approximately $14,400 to date. We have exceeded the $14,000 total collected in 2015 and we can still bring in some of the missing 580 baby bottles. Please remind others to bring their baby bottle back. Thanks to all who helped out with this effort. St. Matthew Life Chain Thanks to all Knights and family members who participated in this event on October 2 from 2 PM to 3PM to witness for the precious unborn and a very special thanks to Regina White for another superb job in providing the cookies etc. for all the participants. Thanks to Eddie Doohan for his work as our event marshal. Make Your Catholic Voice Heard in Public Policy This election is extremely critical for our country and for the rights of the unborn children. When the medial is intent on making the comparison between the two presidential candidates based on their personalities, we must bring attention to the terrible “Pro-Choice” policies of the party and the candidate who wants to take away our freedom to express our religious beliefs because Christians stand in the way of their progressive agenda. It is our duty and re-sponsibility to proclaim an American conscience based on traditional Christian values. The outcome of this election will determine the success - or failure - of our life-saving efforts. The tiniest members of our human family need you to elect candidates who will protect them in every office, from the NC General As-sembly to the White House. Please, vote for LIFE at the polls. Share the North Carolina Right To Life (ncrtl.org) candidate endorsements with all of your pro-life friends and family (Federal Candidates, Presidential/US Senate Comparison, State Candidates). The babies are counting on it. Also review the website for forming your Catholic conscience for voting in elections at http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship/index.cfm If you would like to join our Council’s Pro-Life committee or learn more about our current and planned activities,

SPRED

Faith, Friendship and Fun

Everyone deserves to fully participate in the faith and community life of St. Matthew Parish. Howev-

er, there are those with developmental delays/intellectual challenges who need friends to walk

with them on their journey. With the support of the St. Matthew Knights of Columbus, we have

been able to operate two successful programs: SPRED and Spirit Club.

In both of these programs, the participants each have a helper who accompanies them on their

journey. Because of the growth of these programs, we need adult and teen helpers (15 and older).

These helpers become a guide and a friend to the participant and together they go through the ses-

sions under the guidance of a trained leader.

SPRED (Special Religious Development) is a faith formation program in which persons with devel-

opmental/intellectual challenges come together with an adult friend/catechist. They share a one-

on one relationship and participate together to form a small faith community. Led by a trained cate-

chist, the participants learn of God’s love for them and how He works in our lives. The SPRED Pro-

gram prepares these special parishioners to become fully participating members of our parish

through preparation for the Sacraments.

Commitment: SPRED sessions take place 12 times a year from 10:00 am to noon. Catechists at-

tend a preparation session before each of the 12 sessions.

Spirit Club Is a social club which gives those age 11 and above the opportunity to make friends and

enjoy themselves as they engage in arts/crafts, games, dancing, and athletic activities. Teen and

adult helpers are needed to provide a safe and happy environment.

Commitment: Spirit Club meets on 10 Saturdays a year from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

Qualifications for SPRED and Spirit Club: A willingness to participate and a heart open to sharing.

UPCOMING MEETING NOTICE Knights of Columbus Council 10852

December 7, 2016 at 7:00 PM

At the South Charlotte Banquet Center

9009 Bryant Farms Road, Charlotte, NC 28277

BACKGROUND

The Columbus Club of South Charlotte, Inc. (CCSC) is a Home Corporation as defined by the Supreme

Council. As a volunteer membership corporation, CCSC’s mission is to support and supplement the

charitable works of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Matthew Council #10852,

and to facilitate their fraternal, civic and social pursuits.

In 2014, the Supreme Council established a policy requiring councils using Home Corporation facilities

to execute written agreements governing (1) a council’s use of Home Corporation facilities and (2) how

matters will be settled between the Council and the Home Corporation in the event that the Home Cor-

poration chooses to wind up its affairs. In establishing this policy, the Supreme Council expects Coun-

cils and Home Corporations to work together in their distinct but complementary roles namely, that of

tenant and landlord. The Supreme Council expects that Officers of Councils and representatives of

Home Corporations will act in good faith to clarify the relationship between their respective organiza-

tions in order to promote the mission of the Knights of Columbus.

In 2015, the Supreme Knight asked every Council using facilities owned by a Home Corporation to un-

dertake a serious assessment of how that relationship supports the Council in fulfilling the core mis-

sion of the Knights of Columbus.

For Councils whose mission continues to be supported by a viable Home Corporation, the Supreme

Council directs Councils with Home Corporations to execute: (1) a Terms of Use Agreement; and (2) a

Charitable Distribution Agreement. These agreements recognize that Councils, Home Corporations and

the Knights of Columbus are all separate and distinct entities, and that any agreements are made ex-

clusively between a Council and Home Corporation.

PROGRESS TO-DATE

Our the past several months Council 10852 Officers have completed the assessment of how the rela-

tionship with the CCSC supports the Council in fulfilling the core mission of the Knights of Columbus.

Council Officers determined that the Council’s relationship with the CCSC supports the Core mission of

of the Knights of Columbus.

Further, CCSC and Council 10852 Officers have been working to finalize the Terms of Use Agreement

governing Council 10852’s use of CCSC facilities and the Charitable Distribution Agreement governing

how matters will be settled between Council 10852 and the CCSC in the event that the CCSC chooses

to wind up its affairs.

8

8

The Terms of Use Agreement clarifies the relationship between a Council and a Home Corporation. Its

purpose is to mitigate risk for both parties by setting forth clear terms and conditions governing how a

Council uses Home Corporation facilities. These terms and conditions include minimum liability insur-

ance requirements, rules governing the use of the trademarks of the Knights of Columbus, and a

method for dispute resolution. This agreement does not involve the Knights of Columbus Supreme

Council or any state council as a party. The agreement is between the Council and the Home Corpora-

tion only, and its purpose is to assist the Council and the Home Corporation in resolving amicably, be-

tween themselves, a wide variety of issues that may arise.

The purpose of the Charitable Distribution Agreement is to clarify how funds and property will be dis-

tributed between a Home Corporation and a Council if the members of a Home Corporation decide to

dissolve the Corporation. It does not state that the Home Corporation must dissolve. That is a deci-

sion that can be made only by the Officers and Members of the Home Corporation. By signing this

agreement, a Council and a Home Corporation are deciding in advance how to settle matters between

them in the event that the Home Corporation is dissolved.

FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13.

We will be conducting this ceremony in honor of Veteran's Day. Patriotism is a significant part of the

Knights of Columbus and in conjunction with St. Matthew Parish we would like to revitalize respect for

our flag as well as our veterans, law enforcement and all first responders. Too much of the opposite is

in our national media of late.

· Representatives of the CMPD, Charlotte Fire Dept., EMTs, Sons of the American Revolution and the

Boy Scouts of America will be attending this event as well as many 4th degree KoC members from

throughout the Charlotte area.

· This is a family affair and we hope to have meaningful educational material available for the children

in attendance. We want our children and grandchildren to understand what our flag and the national

anthem truly represent. Patriotism has waned in recent decades and it must be revived.

If you have old and/or tattered flags at home please bring them or deposit them in the designated re-

ceptacles in the St. Matthew Narthex the first two weekends in November. Announcements have been

in the Church bulletin and all are invited.

We hope all will arrive at 2:30 as we will conduct the actual ceremony at approximately 3. There will be

food and beverages available with all items other than alcoholic beverages at $1.

Please participate in this worthy endeavor and let's not be out-numbered by non members of our

Council. Remember, the whole family can and should be apart of this.

13

13

Flag-folding ceremony described by the UNIFORMED SERVICES CODE is a

dramatic and uplifting way to honor the United States flag on special days.

“The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.”

“The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.”

“The third fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veteran departing our ranks who gave a portion of life for the defense of our country to attain a peace throughout the world.”

“The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him

The fifth fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Ste-phen Decatur, ‘Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong’.”

“The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge alle-giance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

“The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.”

“The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day, and to honor mother, for whom it flies on Mother’s Day.”

“The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood; for it has been through their faith, love, loy-alty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great have been molded.”

“The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.”

“The 11th fold, in the eyes of a Hebrew citizen, represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon, and glorifies, in their eyes, the God of Abra-ham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

“The 12th fold, in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glories, in their eyes, God the Father, the Son, and Holy Ghost.”
