Monitoring of class size reduction is based on Average Daily Enrollment
Similar to reporting done for• K-3 CSR• Morgan-Hart CSR
Class Size Reduction Reporting
Number of Days in the Reporting Period
Cumulative Number of Students Enrolled
=Average
Daily Enrollment
36
Class Size Reduction Reporting
But there are some unique attributes to QEIA Applies to core subjects at middle and high
school Targets vary by grade level
37
Class Size Reduction Reporting
Cumulative Number of Days Enrolled Grades K-8: Beginning of the school year
through April 15 Grade 9-12: Entire school year as put into
units of “months of instruction”• First month of the school year or from the
first month that a new class was created to the last month ending on or before June 30
38
Class Size Reduction Reporting
Grades K-8 Reporting Steps: Collect total enrollment by day for all
classrooms within the grade level from first day of school until April 15• For combination classes, the grade level
with most number of students becomes the grade level of the class for QEIA purposes
39
Class Size Reduction Reporting
Grades K-8 Reporting Steps: Sum the active daily enrollments and
divide the sum by the total number of class days through April 15.
The result is the average class size for the class for the year.
40
Class Size Reduction Monitoring
Grades 9-12 Reporting This is more complicated because there
are usually more multi-grade level classes Grade levels by core subjects have
different targets Different types of scheduling options –
such as block schedules and courses spanning less than the full year
41
Class Size Reduction Monitoring
Grades 9-12 Reporting Steps For each core course class within each
grade level• Calculate Active Monthly Enrollment
– Cumulative number of students enrolled each day divided by the number of instructional days in the month
42
Class Size Reduction Monitoring
Grades 9-12 Reporting Special Circumstances
Partial Year Course: When calculating active monthly enrollment adjust the number of instructional days if period is less than one month or a partial month
43
Class Size Reduction Reporting
Elective Courses Non-core courses may not exceed the
ratio from 2005-06 (Monitoring will begin in 2010-11)
44
Class Size Reduction Reporting
District Student Information Systems
Capable of providing class size reports for average daily enrollments
The Assistance Centers will be collecting and distributing information about how to use your student information system to produce necessary data
45
Class Size Reduction Reporting - Example
46
Class Size Reduction Monitoring
Monitoring at the end of 2008 - 09: Substantially Met

53
Class Size Reduction Monitoring
Unique Scenarios: The school reduced class size during
2005-06 using High Priority Grant funds. As a result, QEIA CSR targets have resulted in very low QEIA CSR targets.
Quality Education Investment Act of 2006 (QEIA)53
54
Class Size Reduction Monitoring
Unique Scenarios: The school was reconfigured in the
base year and added 6th grade. As a result, the CSR target for 6th grade is very low.
Quality Education Investment Act of 2006 (QEIA)54
55
Class Size Reduction Monitoring
Due to the complexity of CSR requirements it is essential to: Schedule Pre-Monitoring meetings with
districts and schools to establish CSR target agreements
Provide assistance with interim benchmarks and implementation plan
Provide information regarding required end of year documentation
