Qatar 2022 World Cup

• 2030 National Vision – 2022 World Cup is the catalyst,

• U$140bn on roads, tunnels, ports, rail, 37 metro stations, stadia, new Lusail City,

• $4 bn stadium building programme (5 stadia in final stage design). Construction to start this year

• 89 training facilities proposed (could be reduced to as few as 40 or 50)

• 21 new hotel projected to be built within 5 years and a further 29 by 2022 (95,000 hotel rooms required)

• ‘Qatarisation’ an imperative - Commitment to the country for the long haul

• They want to get to know you… it takes time

• The tournament will happen – summer vs winter doesn’t bother Qataris.

• In process of building in 3 phases a $5 billion, 750,000 m sq Olympic Complex by 2016

• 5th Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games to be held in 2017 (capital budget - £3.5bn, £250-350m operational budget)

• 5,000 athletes from 62 countries in 17 sporting events (including roller sports, dragon & lion dance, chess and billiards)

• Likely opportunities – stadia overlay, modular structures, hospitality & catering services, event management, training programmes for athletes, security, technical consultancy for Govt
