AYUNTAMIENTO: DECLARADO BICConstruido a finales del S.XVI, es una de las casas con-sistoriales más monumentales de Aragón.En la planta baja, la Lonja, era el recinto tradicional para las actividades de mercado. La fachada principal estaba destina-da a los actos protocolarios del gobierno municipal, para lo que cuenta con un amplio balcón; la fachada lateral debía ser la específicamente concejil. Como remate destacan las gárgo-las y dos torreones de planta circular en sus extremos a modo de garitones defensivos.

TOWN HALL: DECLARED CULTURAL INTEREST ASSETBuilt at the end of the 16th century, it is one of the most monu-mental town halls of Aragon.

The ground floor, the ‘Lonja’, was the traditional venue for mar-ket activities. The main façade was destined to the protocol acts of the municipal government, for which it has a large bal-cony; the side façade must have been the specifically councilor. As a highlight, the gargoyles and two turrets with a circular plan stand out at their ends as defensive small watchtowers.

CONJUNTO DE LA PLAZA MAYORConsiderado uno de los conjuntos arquitectónicos más armo-niosos y bellos de todo Aragón, su forma triangular le confiere un carácter especial y único. Hoy es el centro de reunión social, donde se celebran los principales eventos y fiestas. En ella se rodó la película Libertarias de Vicente Aranda, en 1995.

PLAZA MAYOR COMPLEXConsidered one of the most harmonious and beautiful architec-tural ensembles in all Aragon, its triangular shape gives it a spe-cial and unique character. Today is the center of social gathering, where the main events and parties are held. The film Libertarias by Vicente Aranda was shot there in 1995.

CÁRCELES (S. XVI-XVII Y XIX-XX)Dentro del Ayuntamiento destacan las cárceles, una desti-nada a personas de un nivel social más alto y la otra para presos comunes, formando un auténtico conjunto peniten-ciario con tres estancias diferenciadas. Ambas presentan grafitis en las baldosas del pavimento y en los sillares de piedra.

PRISONS (16TH AND 17TH CENTURIES AND 19TH AND 20TH CENTURIES)Within the City Council, prisons stand out, one for people of a higher social level and the other for common prisoners, forming a real prison complex with three different rooms. Both have graffiti on pavement tiles and stone ashlars.

CALLE MAYOR (FINALES S.XVI-S.XVIII)Uno de los espacios más interesantes del urbanismo tu-rolense, con un gran porticado de sillería que recorre toda la calle, del que arrancan los callejones que conforman el barrio de la Judería.

MAYOR STREET (END OF 16TH CENTURY – 18TH CENTURY) One of the most interesting spaces of urban planning, with a large portico of masonry that runs throughout the street, from which the alleys that make up the Jewish neighborhood start.

JUDERÍASucesión de callejuelas perpendiculares a la Calle Mayor, algunas con signos de haber dispuesto puertas que controlaban su acceso. La estrechez de sus calles evoca la fisonomía de una aljama.

JEWISH QUARTERSuccession of alleys perpen-dicular to Calle Mayor, some with signs of having arranged doors that controlled their access. The narrowness of its streets evokes the appea-rance of a Jewish quarter.

CASA DE LA ENCOMIENDA (FINALES S.XVI)Con el abandono del Castillo se construyó este monumental pa-lacio para residencia del comendador de la Orden de Calatrava, donde se almacenaban los productos agrarios que recaudaba. Destaca la fachada y el patio interior con una hermosa escalera.

HOUSE OF THE ENCOMIENDA (LATE 16TH CENTURY)As the Castle was abandoned, this monumental palace was built as the residence of the Commander of the Order of Calatrava, where the agricultural products he collected were stored. The façade and the interior patio stand out with a beautiful staircase.

CAPILLA DEL PILAR (S.XVII-XVIII)Iglesia sencilla construida en las inme-diaciones del Palacio de la Encomien-da, posiblemente para facilitar el cul-to a la población de La Fresneda, en cuyo interior se conserva una imagen de la Virgen de Gracia tallada en ala-bastro en el S. XVI.

PILAR CHAPEL (17TH – 18TH CENTURIES)Simple church built in the vicinity of the Palacio de la Encomienda, pos-sibly to facilitate the worship for the population of La Fresneda. Inside the church the image of the Virgin of Grace carved in alabaster in the 16th century is preserved.

IGLESIA PARROQUIAL DE SANTA MARÍA LA MAYOR (S.XVI)Conocida también como de la Virgen de las Nieves, está situa-da en la parte más alta de La Fresneda, bajo los restos del an-tiguo castillo. Denota la preexistencia de un anterior templo medieval gótico con ampliaciones barrocas.Se conservan curiosas lápidas de nobles y clérigos y en el ex-terior los restos del antiguo cementerio.

PARISH CHURCH OF SANTA MARÍA LA MAYOR (16TH CENTURY)Also known as the Virgen de las Nieves, it is located in the highest part of La Fresneda, under the remains of the old cast-le. It denotes the preexistence of a previous medieval Gothic temple with baroque extensions. Curious tombstones of nobles and clergymen and the remains of the old cemetery are preserved.

RESTOS DEL CASTILLO: DECLARADO BICFortaleza creada sobre un antiguo asentamiento íbero, para que los guerreros árabes tuvieran un estratégico punto de mira, lo que no evitó que fuera reconquistada y entregada a la Orden de Calatrava. Su destrucción se debe a la política de “tierra que-mada” que Cabrera impuso tras su retirada de la población en la primera guerra carlista.

REMAINS OF THE CASTLE: DECLARED CULTURAL INTERESTASSETFortress created on an old Iberian settlement, so that the Arab warriors had a strategic watch point, which did not prevent it from being reconquered and delivered to the Order of Calatra-va. Its destruction is due to the policy of “scorched earth” that Cabrera imposed after his withdrawal from the village in the first Carlist war.

ANTIGUO CEMENTERIO (S.XIX)Aunque llamado popularmente “medieval”, fue construido en 1884 entre el Castillo y Santa Bárbara. Actualmente está aban-donado y lleno de misterio. En su zona norte se han colocado estelas discoideas de época medieval.

OLD CEMETERY (19TH CENTURY)Although popularly called “medieval”, it was built in 1884 be-tween the Castle and Santa Barbara. It is currently abandoned and full of mystery. Discoid stelae from the medieval era have been placed in its northern area.

SANTUARIO DE LA VIRGEN DE GRACIA (S. XVI-XVIII) PARAJE SINGULARA 5km de la poblacion, sobrecogen los restos del antiguo Con-vento de los frailes Mínimos, que se encuentran en un solita-rio paraje entre los pinos del Valle del Silencio. Levantado para venerar la aparición de la Virgen de Gracia en la concavidad de una gran cueva, las duras condiciones de vida hicieron que fuera abandonado, trasladándose los monjes al Convento edificado en el interior de la población.

SANCTUARY OF THE VIRGEN DE GRACIA. (16TH – 18TH CENTURIES) UNIQUE PLACE.5km from the town, the remains of the old Convent of the Friars Minimos are overwhelming, which are located in a solitary place among the pines of the Valley of Silence. Raised to venerate the appearance of the Virgen de Gracia in the concavity of a large cave, the harsh living conditions caused it to be abandoned, and the monks moved to the Convent built inside the town.

ERMITA DE SANTA BÁRBARA (S.XVII)Levantada en el cerro del mismo nombre para conjurar los riesgos de las tormentas, su entorno esconde leyendas y rincones singulares que han merecido que La Fresneda forme parte de la Red de Pueblos Mágicos de España. A sus pies se descubrió la figura astral tallada en piedra que representa al primer poblador conocido.

SANTA BÁRBARA HERMITAGE (17TH CENTURY)Built on the hill with the same name to ward off the ris-ks of storms, its environment hides legends and unique corners that have made La Fresneda part of the Network of Magical Towns of Spain. At its base, the stone carved astral figure that represents the first known settler was discovered.

CONVENTO DE MÍNIMOS (S. S XVI)Cerca de la Capilla del Pilar, los frailes Mínimos levantaron este convento, que ocuparían durante casi 300 años. Del edificio original se conserva la fachada y parte de sus dependencias secundarias, ha-biendo sido restaurado para inte-grar unas magníficas instalaciones hoteleras.

CONVENT OF MINIMUMS (S XVI)Near the Pilar Chapel, the Friars Minimos built this convent, which they would occupy for almost 300 years. The façade and part of its secondary dependencies are pre-served from the original building, having been restored to integrate magnificent hotel facilities.

ALJIBE “EL POVET”Se trata de un aljibe natural bajo una gran roca mágica, si-tuado en el extremo del antiguo cementerio. Destaca por conservar el agua durante gran parte del año y de la que proveería al castillo en caso de asedio.

WATER TANK “EL POVET”It is a natural cistern under a large magic rock, located at the end of the old cemetery. It stands out for conserving water for most of the year and which it would provide to the castle in case of siege.
