Objective(s) of lesson To teach children to say µplease¶ and µthank you¶ appropriately. Learning Outcomes At the end of this lesson, children will be able to say µplease¶ and µthank you¶ at the right time. Materials needed Paper plate duck and cat puppets, cookies, soft toy dog, Mr Bird cap, word cards of µplease¶ and µthank you¶ made o f used cardboard, magic surprise bag, plastic balls o f different colours. Time and duration of lesson 10.30am to 11.10am (40 min utes)  No of children children ( boys and girls ) Age of children 4+ years old Children¶s previous relevant experience(s) Taught by teacher informally to say µthank you¶ when receiving things and µplease¶ when asking for permissi on to go to the toilet.

What  the teacher will do What  the child ren will do

Intro -5 minutes

1.  Wear the Mr Bird cap and talk like a

 bird to gather the children together.

(Use the word µplease¶, and when

children are seated, say µthank you¶.)

Sit down on the mat.

2.  Introduce the words µplease¶ and µthank 

you¶ by showing word cards from the

magic surprise bag. Mr Bird leads

children to read aloud. Role play to

explain when these words are used.

Read the words together with teacher.

Activity -20 minutes

3.  Game ± Tell children to do what the

animals say only when they say µplease¶

and µthank you¶.

Animal : Can you give me (balls of a

certain colour), (animal sound) please?

Animal : (animal sound), thank you.

EG) Dog : Children, I want a red ball

woof woof!

Teacher : Should you take for him?

What magic word should he say?

Children get the balls for the animals.

Children teach the animal by saying aloud the

magic word he should say.

4.  Give cookies to children one by one

only when they say the magic words.

Teach children to say µmay I have a

cookie please?¶ and µthank you Mr 

Bird¶.

Get cookie from Mr Bird by first asking µmay I

have a cookie please?¶. When receiving

cookie, say µthank you Mr Bird¶. Eat their 

cookies.

Closing- 10 minutes 

5.  Reflection- Ask children what are the

two magic words they learned. Teach

children to sing the following song and

 perform actions as a closing.

 I  have super manner  s. Y e s,  I  do.

 I  can say "Pl ea se ," and "T hank You," 

t oo.

When  I  pl ay with f r iends,  I  like t o share.

T hat'  s the way  I  show  I  care! 

(To the Tune of µI¶m a Little Teapot¶)

Read aloud the 2 magic words learnt. Sing

song with actions.
