• The main objective of the OIE RR ME activities for 2016 is to reinforce Veterinary Services capabilities to control and manage animal diseases, notably trans-boundary diseases, and to support compliance with the international standards.

• The RR ME is also involved in harmonizing regulation for the regional trade of animal and animal products, improving animal diseases information system, strengthening collaboration with regional and international organisations, holding conferences and seminars that will help to target specific issues related to animal and public health, promoting the establishment of a network of regional reference laboratories and coordinating their activities.

OBJECTIVES OF THE REPRESENTATION

• Political disturbances in Iraq, Libya, Syria and Yemen with regional impact:• direct: hampered sanitary governance in these countries and higher risk of

transboundary dissemination of animal diseases;• Indirect: lack of budget, cancellation of conferences (Oman/13th conference

of the RC ME), non participation of representatives to international meetings…
