Ihsan



The Meaning of IslamH Literally: peace, purity, submission, and

obedience.H Religious sense: total submission to thewill of God (Allah) and obedience to His

Law.H What is the connection between them?H The pillars of Islam?



The Misconception AboutIslam

H Islam = ´MohammedanismµH Muslim = ´MohammedanµH It is wrong to use these terms.H Why? What does it imply?



The Meaning of ImanH Is generally translated as ´beliefµ or ´faithµ

in English.H Belief: has confidence that thing is true, but

in reality it may turn out to be false.H Faith: conveys complete trust on confidence

and again that confidence can be in falsehood.H Iman: is believing in something which is

absolutely true and no possibility of falsehoodat all.

H Hadith: ´Recognizing with the heart, voicingwith the tongue and performing with thelimbsµ.



S o, a mu·min (believer) should possessall the three components of iman.i. Recognizing with heart : should recognize

and acknowledge the truth that Islambrings.

ii. Voicing with the tongue : must be furtheraffirmed and expressed in a human way ²speech.

iii. Performing with the limbs : to have a

complete iman it requires a concomitantaction to what have been acknowledged bythe heart and affirmed verbally by theto ngue.



The Meaning of IhsanH Literally (husn): quality of being good and

beautiful.H Hadith: ´It is to worship Allah as if you see

Him, and if you cannot achieve this state thenyou must remember that He is seeing youµ.

H Ihsan requires a mu·min to have Godconsciousness all the time ² at all places, all

situations - secret or public, seen or unseen.



The Meaning of ReligionH Religion: believe in the existence of

superhuman controlling power, usually

expressed in worship.H Deen: submission, following and worship by

man for the Creator in the comprehensivesystem of life with its belief, intellectual,

moral and practical aspects.

1. Aqidah- Literally: knot or bind- Terminologically: a strong covenant

of faith between man and theCreator.

Rububiyyah Uluhiyyah Asma¶ wa Sifat

1. Aqidahi. Tauhid Rububiyyah: believe in Allah as

Rabb or the Creator and S ubjugatorof all things.

ii. Tauhid Uluhiyyah: recognize and

believe that only Allah who has theright to be worshipped and ascribe nopartners with Him in worship.



iii. Tauhid Asma· wa S ifat: recognize and

believe that Allah has attributes ofperfection and very clean from anyattributes of deficiency and weakness.

2. S yariahi. Ibadah: literally obedience, submission

and humility.Terminologically the ultimateobedience, submission and humility toAllah along with the ultimate love forHim.



ii. Muamalat: fiqh of economy and

finance that discusses Islamiceconomic and financial system anddetermines the rulings for them.

iii. Munakahat: fiqh of marriage thatdiscusses Islamic familial systemand determines the rulings for it.

iv. Jinayat: fiqh of crime thatdiscusses Islamic criminal law anddetermines the punishments forcriminal offences.



3 . Akhlak- Literally: habit, behaviour, manner,

action and custom.- Terminologically: an attribute or

attitude of personality thatproduce the man·s conduct andaction in order to form a perfectlife based on principles that have

been determined by Allah.

CONCLUS ION

There are three important concepts ofIslam; Islam , Iman and Ihsan . Islamtells what they should do, how toworship etc., Iman tells about why theyshould do, while Ihsan focuses on ´whydo people do what they doµ.

Aqidah, S yariah and Akhlak are IslamicS yariah·s Foundations that completeeach other in order to produce a trueMuslim, Mu·min and Muhsin in a flawlessdeen ² Islam.
