The in-game language depends onthe one that is set on the system.This title supports five differentlanguages: English, German, French,Spanish and Italian. If your Nintendo 3DS systemlanguage is set to one of these, thesame language will be displayed inthe game. If your Nintendo 3DS system is setto another language, the in-gamedefault language will be English. Forinstructions about how to change thesystem language, please refer to theOperations Manual, "SystemSettings".

Note: Some of these buttonoperations can also be carried out bytouching icons on the lower screen.

This game requires you to use theNintendo 3DS camera function toview your surroundings and the ARBook to progress. Some sections arenavigated using the buttons.

Close your Nintendo 3DS systemduring play to activate Sleep Mode,greatly reducing batteryconsumption. Reopen the system toresume play.

4 Before Playing

・ Place the AR Book on a flat, well-lit surface.

・ If the pages of the AR Book arebent or folded, or if they are dirty,they cannot be recognised by thesystem. Ensure that the pages ofthe AR Book in use are flat on thesurface, and that they are keptclean.

・ Keep the AR Book out of directlight, as this can interfere with theouter cameras' ability to recogniseit properly.

・ This software involves moving theNintendo 3DS system aroundwhile you play. Ensure that youhave adequate space around youand that you hold the systemfirmly in both hands while playing.Failing to do so could result ininjury and/or damage tosurrounding objects.

・ The audio in this game ispresented in Surround Mode.Please note that even if the soundoutput of the Nintendo 3DSsystem is set to mono or stereo,sound output during the game will

The gyro sensor will calibrate whenyou start a game. Place theNintendo 3DS on a table or other flatsurface, and wait a few seconds.When the gyro sensor is calibrated,press .

Note: Select CALIBRATE GYROSENSOR in Options to manuallycalibrate the gyro sensor.

The title screen will bedisplayed when youstart the game. Press or touch the lowerscreen to display themode selection screen.

Note: If there is not enough spaceon the SD Card, your photos will notbe saved.

After selecting the SPIRIT CAMERA:THE CURSED MEMOIR icon from theHOME Menu, existing save data forthe game can be deleted by pressingand holding +++simultaneously.

"In Project Zero: The Purple Diary(p. 7), selecting THE BEGINNING willoverwrite any previously attainedgame progress. In addition, anysaved photos can be deleted usingNintendo 3DS Camera which can beaccessed from the HOME Menu."

As you progress through the story, itwill save automatically (autosave)when you reach certain points. Thewords "Saving" will appear during anautosave. When photographingspirits (p. 11) you can save thephotos you've taken on an SD Card.The SD Card must be inserted intothe Nintendo 3DS before playing.

Note: Please be aware that savedata cannot be recovered oncedeleted or overwritten.

7 Starting the Game

This content will be unlocked onceyou have cleared PROJECT ZERO:THE PURPLE DIARY.

Replay scenes from PROJECT ZERO:THE PURPLE DIARY that you havecleared in the game.

Continue from your last save point.

Select PROJECT ZERO: THE PURPLEDIARY from the mode selectionscreen to experience the tale of thecursed purple diary. You can startthe game from the menu thatfollows.

Start the story fromthe beginning.When starting, youwill need to save aphoto of your face,taken by the inner camera, for usein-game.Resetting the save data will deletethe saved photo of your face.

This glows when it detects a spirit.

There are 4 kinds of icons.

The upper screen shows yoursurroundings as viewed through theouter cameras, and the lower screendisplays messages and information.

9 Using the Purple Diary

When appears, look around youby moving the Nintendo 3DS.

Talk

Align the two circlesby moving thNintendo 3DSWhen correctlaligned, the circlewill glow and triggan event.

Align the Circles

When appears, view the purplediary with the Nintendo 3DS outercameras.

Look through thepages of the purplediary with the outercameras and seewhich page reacts.

10 Battling Spirits

This gauge will deplete when a spirittakes damage. You win the battlewhen the gauge is empty.

Once the spirit is centred within thiscircle, it can be photographed anddamaged.

When the spirit is outside your fieldof vision, its location is indicated byan arrow.

The Reload Meter depletes whenyou take a photo. Only when it is fullagain will you be able to takeanother photo. The meter takes timeto replenish.

This gauge depletes when you takedamage from a spirit's attack. Whenthe gauge is empty, it's Game Over.

The Battle Screen will be displayedwhen a spirit attacks.

If you take a photowhen the circle isred, you will parry aspirit's attack. Youwon't defendagainst the attack if you don't payattention to this timing.

Note: Only the Zero Lens can chargeup Spirit Power.

You will mostly be fighting with theZero Lens, though there are specialcircumstances in the game whichrequire other lenses.Centre the spirit in the Capture Circleand take a photo when the circlechanges colour in order to inflictdamage.

The Charge Meter will begin to glowwith Spirit Power when you havecentred a spirit in the circle. Themore Spirit Power you have chargedup, the more damage you will deal.

You can consult the Detection Guideto determine the direction of a spirit.However, some spirits can hidethemselves, and cannot be seenusing the Detection Guide. Findthese spirits with the Lamp (p. 8).

11 How to Play Spirit Camera

Take pictures ofpeople and yoursurroundings withthe / buttons.Photos you've takenin Spirit Photography mode can besaved onto an SD Card and viewedusing Nintendo 3DS Camera from theHOME Menu.

The Spirit Camera uses photos youtake with the Nintendo 3DS cameras.

● Spirit PhotographyTake photos of spirits.

● Spirit CheckSee what's haunting you andthose around you.

● Spirit ChallengeFight the spirits which emergefrom photos of people's faces.

Once SPIRIT CAMERA is selectedfrom the mode selection screen,three playable options will bedisplayed in the menu.

Note: When photographing faces,you can switch between the innerand outer cameras.

● Four Strange MasksFollow the restless gazes of thefour masks and answer thequestions put to you.

● The Haunted DollMemorise the doll that rises fromthe AR Book, and use the camerato search your surroundings forthe right one.

Note: Additional difficulty levels willbecome available as you progressthrough this mode.

Use the Nintendo 3DS cameras inconjunction with the AR Book toexperience various ghostlyphenomena.

Choose CURSEDPAGES from the ModeSelection Screen andselect a game from themenu which appears.As you progress through the games,more will become available.
