WAN Emulation Parameter Configurations

• Packet impairment model includes automated and manual mode:

• Automated: Periodic and Random Packet impairment options. Note: Single and Burst packet loss supported

• Manual impairment: This allows user to manually impair either a single packet or burst of packets at run time.

PacketLoss

• For a Packet Loss rate of 1%, 1 packet out of 100 packets are dropped i.e. for every 100 packets received, 100th packet will be dropped consistently.

• “Random Packet Loss" option, user can randomize the packets selected for dropping. Though packets are selected randomly for dropping, the configured rate is still maintained.

PacketLoss…

• Burst Packet Loss, to drop a burst of packets at a time varies randomly between the min and max burst size

• “Manual Packet Loss" option, instantaneous packet drop, the configured rate is still maintained.

Packet Reordering

• During Packet Reordering, the selected packet will be held for the time/packet offset configured in the Delay offset parameters and then reintroduced into the output traffic for transmission.

Packet Reordering…Time Delay Offset

Packet Delay Offset

• Time Delay offset, can range between 0 and up to 2 seconds (2000 msec). Each reordered frame is delayed for a random amount of time, falling between the specified minimum and maximum values.

• For Packet offset delay, the reordered frame will be held until runtime selected offset frames are received, before being reinserted into the stream.
