1. Emergency Quota Act- Set-up a quota system that established the maximum number of people who could enter the US from each foreign country.

2. Communism- An economic and social structure where businesses are managed by the govt., everyone is equal, there are no civil liberties; community ownership

5. Sacco and Vanzetti- Italian immigrants, anarchist arrested and charged with robbery and murder. The trial did not prove their guilt, but the Jury found them guilty. They were executed in 1927.

6. ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union)- A union that defends and preserves the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States.

7. Harlem Renaissance- A flowering of African-American artistic creativity during the 1920s, centered in the Harlem community of New York City.

8. NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People)- An organization that fought for legislation to protest racial violence and protect African-American rights.

9. Back-to-Africa movement- Marcus Garvey’s movement to encourage his followers to return to Africa, help native people there throw off white colonial oppressors, and build a mighty nation.

10. W.E.B. Dubois- Founder of the NAACP.

11. Marcus Garvey -An immigrant from Jamaica believed that African-Americans should build a separate society.

12. Dust Bowl-The region, including Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico, that was made worthless for farming by drought and dust storms during the 1930s.

13. Hoovervilles-American shantytowns during Hoover presidency.

14. Bonus Army- A group of World War I veterans and their families who marched on Washington, D.C.’ in 1932 to demand the immediate payment of a bonus they had been promised for military service.

15. Court Packing Plan- A plan to reorganize the federal judiciary and allow President Roosevelt to appoint six new Supreme Court Justices to help pass his New Deal legislation.
